Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo Has His Social Media Hacked

After several bizarre and offensive tweets were posted on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s social media accounts on Thursday, the Milwaukee Bucks – as well as Antetokounmpo’s brother and the player’s representatives — have confirmed his accounts were hacked.

More than a dozen tweets popped up in Antetokounmpo’s feed in the span of about five minutes, and they appeared to clearly be the work of someone else. The tweets included racial slurs, profane attacks on other players and a claim that Antetokounmpo had the coronavirus. “Giannis’ twitter, phone, email and bank accounts were hacked!” Los Angeles Lakers forward Kostas Antetokounmpo tweeted. “He genuinely apologizes for everything that was tweeted and he will be back as soon as possible! The things that were said by this hacker were extremely inappropriate and disgusting!”

The tweets disappeared from Giannis Antetokounmpo’s account quickly. The Bucks said in a statement that an investigation is underway, and Octagon, Antetokounmpo’s agency, also confirmed the hacking.

Martina McBride Debuts New Single ‘Girls Like Me’ On NBC’s Songland

Martina McBride was the featured artist on this week’s episode of the songwriting-focused competition show Songland and selected the track “Girls Like Me” to record.

Songland brings in up-and-coming songwriters to pitch their compositions to superstar artists from across the genre spectrum. After one writer is eliminated, the remaining three work with the show’s panel of producers, including Nashville’s Shane McAnally, to fine-tune their tracks before one final pitch.

20 year-old songwriter Halie (full name: Halie Wooldridge) worked with hitmaker Ester Dean to refine “Girls Like Me.” Halle moved to Nashville in 2018; she originally co-wrote the song with Dan Swank, Lexi Lauren and her brother, Michael Tyler, a 22-year-old songwriter and artist who has written, among other songs, Dierks Bentley’s hit “Somewhere on a Beach.”

McBride’s Songland episode was filmed pre-coronavirus pandemic, but she recorded the final version of the song after safer-at-home orders took effect.   You can take a listen to McBride’s “Girls Like Me” at the link here.

President Trump Now Says Coronavirus Task Force “Will Continue On Indefinitely”

A day after President Donald Trump stated that he planned to disband the White House coronavirus task force, Trump announced Wednesday that it will now continue indefinitely. In a series of tweets, Trump said the task force, led by Vice President Mike Pence, has done a “fantastic job of bringing together vast highly complex resources that have set a high standard for others to follow in the future.” Trump said later Wednesday that the task force will also be “very focused” on the development of a coronavirus vaccine and treatments and he would be announcing “two or three new members to the task force” as soon as Monday.

The president’s apparent change of plans comes a day after he told reporters during a visit to a mask factory in Phoenix that he would wind down the task force.  The President said at the time, “I think that, as far as the task force, Mike Pence and the task force have done a great job. But we’re now looking at a little bit of a different form, and that form is safety and opening, and we’ll have a different group probably set up for that.”

Trump’s announcement to keep the task force going comes as more than 70,000 people in the U.S. have died from COVID-19, and there have been more than 1.2 million reported cases across the country.

Blood Thinners May Help Improve Survival Among Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients

In treating hospitalized COVID-19 patients, anticoagulants–  or blood thinners — are helping improve their chances of survival.  In recent weeks, physicians have noticed that the sickest coronavirus patients are more prone to forming blood clots — an unexpected symptom for a respiratory virus. Clotting means “patients are at increased risk for deep vein thrombosis, strokes, heart attacks” and pulmonary embolisms.

Mount Sinai COVID Informatics Center researchers said in a study, published in the May 6 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, could provide new insight on how to treat and manage coronavirus patients once they are admitted to the hospital.
The research also showed that the difference in bleeding events among patients treated with and without anticoagulants was not significant. The Mount Sinai researchers say their work outlines an important therapeutic pathway for COVID-19 patients.
