New Documentary About Lance Armstrong To Air On ESPN

The new documentary film about the life of Lance Armstrong will air on ESPN this weekend. Described as the “kid from Texas who became an American superhero, having survived a near-death battle with cancer to win the Tour de France seven straight times from 1999 to 2005”, Armstrong is also an American villain, who was disgraced and exposed as a cheater, liar and bully – aided and abetted by performance-enhancing drugs and friends in high places. The film also details his heroic role among cancer survivors and his work at Livestrong, the charity he built to help them before his ouster from it amid scandal.

Armstrong, now 48, has said he had no editorial control over the film and apparently was not pleased with it after viewing it in December. A version of the film that is edited for language also will air simultaneously on ESPN2. The

Part one airs at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, followed by part two at the same time on May 31.

Ruby Rose Announces Exit From ‘Batwoman’ TV Series

Ruby Rose has announced she was leaving the CW drama series ‘Batwoman’ and would not appear in season 2.

Rose said in a statement: “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”

Rose was cast as the titular character/Kate Kane in 2018 for the Arrowverse crossover. Rose then signed on for the stand-alone Batwoman series shortly after, which saw her portray the first LGBTQ superhero to lead a live-action TV show.

Season 2 of Batwoman was renewed for a second season earlier this year and was set to premiere in January 2021; however, series production was expected to be delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Thousands Forced To Evacuate After Flood Destroys Two Dams In Michigan

Floodwater as high as 5 feet — and rising — submerged parts of the central Michigan town of Midland on Wednesday, after days of heavy rain led to the failure of two dams and the evacuation of thousands of people.

The National Weather Service warned of “life-threatening” flooding as water levels of the Tittabawassee River in Midland, about 120 miles northwest of Detroit, reached historic levels and were expected to continue rising. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Wednesday called on the federal government to provide help to the state in responding to the flooding, which struck at a time when it is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic.

About 10,000 people have been evacuated in Midland County, Whitmer said, after days of heavy rain caused the river to overflow and breach the Edenville and Sanford dams.

The extreme flooding comes as the state struggles with the coronavirus pandemic, which could further strain resources and hamper the response to the crisis.

President Trump Slams Expansion Of Mail Voting In Michigan, Nevada

On Wednesday President Trump slammed plans to expand voting by mail in Michigan and Nevada, even briefly threatening to withhold federal funding for the states. He later dropped the warning after criticism from Democrats.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his opposition to mail-in voting, saying the expansion in Michigan and Nevada could lead to voter fraud. Numerous studies have found little evidence of voter fraud connected to voting by mail. States have broad authority to set their own rules for voting.

Many states have pushed to expand vote-by-mail options as a safer alternative in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak. “This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!” Trump wrote on Twitter. Trump also threatened Nevada’s federal funding, saying the state’s move to expand voting by mail created “a great Voter Fraud scenario.”

Trump later walked back the threats on the unspecified funds, telling reporters at the White House “I don’t think it’s going to be necessary.” But he kept up his criticism of voting by mail as “a very dangerous thing.”

Body Of WWE’s Shad Gaspard Found After Suspected Drowning

The body of former WWE pro Shad Gaspard was found Wednesday on Los Angeles’ Venice Beach, after he was caught in a rip current last weekend, police said. Patrol officers were flagged down around 1:25 a.m. by a person reporting that a body had washed ashore, a Police Department statement said. The body was identified as Gaspard and his family was notified.

Gaspard went missing last Sunday after he went swimming with his 10-year-old son, Aryeh. The boy was rescued and several other swimmers made it out of the water safely.  He was about 50 yards (46 meters) from shore when he was last spotted by a lifeguard, police said. A wave crashed over him and he was swept out to sea.

Gaspard, 39, gained prominence in the WWE as one half of the tag-team group Cryme Tyme, along with his partner, JTG. After retiring in 2010, Gaspard has had small roles on TV and in movies, including the 2015 Kevin Hart comedy “Get Hard.”
