The Bahamas Closing Airports, Borders To U.S. Visitors As COVID-19 Cases Spike

Just weeks after reopening its borders to international visitors, the Bahamas announced on Sunday that it was closing all of its airports and seaports to tourists from the United States, effective Wednesday.

Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said in a national address Sunday that Bahamasair, the country’s national carrier, will cease all outgoing flights to the United States immediately, Outgoing commercial flights will still be permitted to accommodate visitors scheduled to leave the Bahamas after Wednesday, he said. Visitors from Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union will still be permitted to visit as long as they can show proof of a negative COVID-19 RT PCR test from an accredited laboratory taken within 10 days of their arrival. Also allowed under the new order: private international flights and charters and pleasure crafts.

On Sunday, the Bahamas Ministry of Health registered 15 new cases of COVID-19, for a total tally of 153 cases, Minnis said.

Golf Legend Jack Nicklaus Reveals He And His Wife Had Coronavirus In March

Gold legend Jack Nicklaus revealed Sunday during CBS’ telecast of the final round of the Memorial Tournament that he and his wife tested positive for the coronavirus in March. Nicklaus said he had minor symptoms, while his wife experienced none. He told CBS’ Jim Nantz they were quarantined at their home in North Palm Beach, Fla., from March 13 until about April 20. Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, turned 80 earlier this year.

“It didn’t last very long, and we were very, very fortunate, very lucky,” Nicklaus said. “Barbara and I are both of the age, both of us 80 years old, that is an at-risk age. Our hearts go out to the people who did lose their lives and their families. We were just a couple of the lucky ones.”

Nicklaus shared the news when the tournament was coming out of a weather delay. Earlier this week, he said he would shake the hand of whoever wins the Memorial — a tradition at the event he created.

Kanye West Kicks Off 2020 Presidential Campaign In Charleston, South Carolina

Kanye West held his first campaign event in South Carolina on Sunday night. West teased the event on social media, expressing his hope to acquire signatures to get on the ballot in the state. “Hi guys please sign up to put me on the ballot in South Carolina at any of these locations,” West wrote, sharing a list of locations. “You can also sign up at the website kanye2020.country.”

During the rally, West made such statements as “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.” In another moment, West shared a story about how he and wife Kim Kardashian West almost had an abortion, and he grew emotional about his past and his father while crying on stage. At one point, West had someone thrown out of the event for heckling, video showed.

The rally was held at the Exquis Event Center in North Charleston and was “for registered guests only.” All attendees were asked to sign a COVID-19 liability release form, social distance and wear a mask.

West’s first rally comes shortly after the rapper announced on the Fourth of July that he planned to run for president in 2020.
