Tyra Banks Named New Host of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ After Tom Bergeron And Erin Andrews Departure

Just a day after ABC dropped Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews from “Dancing With The Stars” leading into season 29, TMZ has learned Tyra Banks will be named new host. Tyra will also be an Executive Producer of the show.

On Monday, Bergeron announced the show would be continuing without him, and said his 15 years hosting were the “most unexpected gift of my career.” ABC and BBC released their own statement about Tom and Erin’s departures, saying the show is embarking “on a new creative direction.”  Sources say that the news came as quite a shock to Bergeron, and he was only informed of his departure this week.

Tommy Lee Plays Drums On Remix Of “Tommy Lee” By Tyla Yaweh And Post Malone

Last month, rapper Tyla Yaweh released a track called “Tommy Lee” featuring Post Malone. Now, the pair have teamed up with the Mötley Crüe drummer himself on a remix of the song. Lee spoke of his involvement prior to the release of the original track, though his drumming wasn’t part of the original song. In the remix, along with an accompanying music video, Lee and Yaweh are featuring performing the song in the Mötley Crüe drummer’s studio. Along with Lee’s drumming, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 adds guitar and bass.

Lee said in a press release, “I was humbled that Tyla and Post chose to name a song after me. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it with them and give it my spin. We had a blast! They are the new rockstars! I love them both!”  Yaweh added, “I’ve got a legendary track with this bad ass rockstar Tommy Lee and my brother Post Malone. This track is so special to me!”  Lee previously teamed up with Malone on the track “Over Now,” which appeared on his 2018 album, Beerbongs and Bentleys.

U.S. Health Officials Say Coronavirus Vaccine Production To Begin By Late Summer

U.S. health officials and drugmakers are expecting to start producing potential coronavirus vaccine doses by the end of the summer, a senior administration official said Monday. The U.S. is aiming to deliver 300 million doses of a vaccine for Covid-19 by early 2021. The manufacturing process is already underway even though they aren’t sure which vaccine, if any, will work.

U.S. health officials and researchers have been accelerating the development of vaccine candidates by investing in multiple stages of research, even though doing so could backfire if the vaccine ends up not being effective or safe. Health officials have previously said they are ramping up the manufacturing process to ensure they can immediately get a vaccine to market once they identify one that works.

President Donald Trump has praised the “tremendous progress” of vaccine development, calling the project “Operation Warp Speed” as coronavirus cases across the U.S. continue to surge.

California Shuts Down Again As Coronavirus Crisis Expands In State

On Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued new restrictions on businesses as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations soared. Newsom ordered bars closed and restaurants, movie theaters, zoos and museums across the nation’s most populous state to cease indoor operations. Gyms, churches and hair salons must close in the 30 hardest-hit counties. Newsom said at a news briefing, “It’s incumbent upon all of us to recognize soberly that COVID-19 is not going away any time soon, until there is a vaccine and/or an effective therapy.”  The governor said a surge in COVID-19 cases have strained hospitals in several of California’s rural counties.

The public school districts for Los Angeles and San Diego, which instruct a combined 706,000 students and employ 88,000 people, said in a joint statement they would teach only online when school resumes in August, citing “vague and contradictory” science and government guidelines.

Houston Rockets Guard Russell Westbrook Tests Positive For COVID-19

Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook announced Monday on Instagram that he tested positive for COVID-19, but says he feels well and eager to play again.

“I tested positive for COVID-19 prior to my team’s departure to Orlando,” Westbrook wrote in the post. “I’m currently feeling well, quarantined, and looking forward to rejoining my teammates when I am cleared. Thank you all for the well wishes and continued support. Please take this virus seriously. Be safe. Mask Up! #whynot.”

The Rockets traveled to Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, July 9, but Westbrook wasn’t on the team flight. Niether was fellow NBA All-Star James Harden, and Houston did not disclose why he hasn’t yet joined the team at Disney World. The duo are both expected to arrive this week.

According to health and safety protocols agreed upon by the NBA and its players association, players can join their teams on the campus only once they’ve received two negative tests within a 24-hour period and aren’t experiencing symptoms. Upon arrival at Disney World, players must quarantine again for 48 hours in their accommodations and test negative twice more before practicing with their team

Washington Redskins To Change Name And Logo After Backlash

Following decades of pressure to stop using a racial slur as its team name, Washington’s NFL team, the Washington Redskins, announced that it will finally change. The team said in a statement on Monday: “On July 3rd we announced the commencement of a thorough review of the team’s name. That review has begun in earnest. Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review.”  A new name and logo will be announced at a later date after a thorough review, the team said.

Team owner Dan Snyder announced that they decided to remove the name Redskins “in light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community.” The team added, “Dan Snyder and Coach Rivera are working closely to develop a new name and design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition-rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years.”
