Ex-Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Back In Jail After Dispute Over Gag Order

President Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was taken back to a federal jail on Thursday after refusing to agree to a gag order as a condition of serving his criminal sentence under home confinement. Cohen’s lawyer, Jeffrey Levine, said that his client was taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

Cohen, 53, had been released from a federal prison in upstate New York in May due to concerns over possible exposure to the novel coronavirus. He had completed about a year of a three-year sentence for his role in hush money payments to two women, as well as for financial crimes and lying to Congress about plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. Cohen had originally been eligible for release in November 2021.

On Thursday, he was ordered to a federal courthouse in Manhattan to convert his furlough to home confinement. Levine said they were presented with an agreement that barred Cohen from having any contact with news media organizations, TV, film or book publishing outlets, or from posting on social media. After objecting, Levine said the U.S. Marshals Service came with “shackles” and ordered Cohen remanded to the jail in Brooklyn because he failed to agree to the terms.

Record-Breaking Tropical Storm Fay Forms Off Atlantic Coast

Tropical Storm Fay has developed off the coast of the Carolinas, adding to an already busy start of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. In an update late last evening, the National Hurricane Center said Fay was located about 70 miles south of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and about 140 miles south-southeast of Ocean City, Md. The storm was traveling north at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. A tropical storm warning was in effect for the coast, from Cape May, N.J., to Watch Hill, R.I., including Long Island and Long Island Sound.

Already the sixth named storm in the Atlantic this year, Fay also holds the record as the earliest named “F” storm to form in the basin in the satellite era, which dates back to the 1960s. “Fay will be a mostly heavy rain producer but could still bring wind gusts of 50-60 mph along coastal areas of eastern Long Island and over eastern coastal areas of New England,” AccuWeather senior meteorologist and lead hurricane expert Dan Kottlowski said.

Big Ten Moving To Conference-Only Schedule This Fall

The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday it will cut non-conference games for all fall sports, including football, amid “unprecedented times” during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Big Ten said in a statement, “We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority… By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic.”

The Big Ten becomes the first Power 5 conference to move to a conference-only schedule this fall. The Ivy League on Wednesday ruled out playing fall sports this year, but the conference has yet to make a decision on whether fall teams could play in the spring next year. Other sports impacted include men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s and women’s cross country and women’s volleyball.

Nashville Becomes 2nd Team To Withdraw From MLS Tournament

On Thursday, Major League Soccer announced that Nashville SC withdrew from the “MLS is Back Tournament” after multiple positive coronavirus tests. With the team’s withdrawal, Nashville SC became the second club to pull out of the MLS’ tournament in Orlando, Fla. FC Dallas was withdrawn from the competition Monday due to a high number of positive test results.

MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a statement Thursday, “We have withdrawn Nashville SC from the ‘MLS is Back Tournament.’ Due to the number of positive tests, the club has been unable to train since arriving in Orlando and would not be able to play matches. For every decision we make in our return to play, the well-being of our players, staff, officials and all participants is our top priority.”

Nashville SC’s match against the Chicago Fire — originally scheduled for Wednesday — was postponed Tuesday as the league discussed the team’s future in the tournament. After Nashville’s withdrawal, there are now only 24 clubs competing in Orlando. The league also reconfigured the tournament to consist of six groups of four teams, with the Fire moving from Group A to Group B.

‘Glee’ Actress Naya Rivera Presumed Dead After Disappearing At Lake In California While Boating With Son

Actress Naya Rivera is presumed dead after disappearing at a lake in Southern California, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Chris Dyer said at a news conference Thursday, “We’re presuming that an accident happened and we’re presuming she drowned in the lake. Search and rescue efforts for the actress have now shifted to a recovery operation. The goal is still to bring Miss Rivera home to her family.”

Rivera, 33, vanished from Lake Piru on Wednesday evening. According to authorities, she went to the lake that afternoon and rented a pontoon boat with her 4-year-old son, Josey.  Dyer said Thursday that the boat was overdue for return around 4 p.m. local time, and a rental employee found the boat on the north end of Lake Piru. Rivera’s son was on the boat, but the actress was nowhere to be found. One life jacket was found on the boat and the boy was wearing another. Investigators found Rivera’s purse and her identification, but no other clues on the boat.

Search efforts began immediately and continued until about 10 p.m. Wednesday. The search resumed Thursday morning and will continue until sunset and was expected to resume at daybreak on Friday. Detectives have spoken to Rivera’s son and as a result of that conversation do not believe Rivera made it to shore. Rivera’s son is healthy and with family.

Rivera played Santana Lopez on the Fox show “Glee” for six years beginning in 2009. She was previously married to actor Ryan Dorsey, with whom she shares son, Josey.
