U.S. Official Says It’s ‘Too Soon’ To Determine If Republican Convention Can Be Held Safely In Florida

On Sunday, a top Trump administration health official said it was not clear whether it will be safe to hold the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville next month.

As Florida continues to see record numbers of coronavirus cases, Stephen Hahn, the Food and Drug Administration commissioner, also refused to confirm President Donald Trump’s claim that 99% of coronavirus cases were harmless and called the situation a “serious problem.” Hahn was asked if it would be safe to hold the typically large RNC gathering in just seven weeks due to record numbers of people testing positive for the virus in Jacksonville and across Florida, “I think it’s too early to tell,” Hahn said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. “We will have to see how this unfolds in Florida and elsewhere around the country.”

The Republican Party moved most of the convention activities to Jacksonville from Charlotte after a battle over coronavirus safety concerns with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

Two Dead, Eight Wounded In South Carolina Nightclub Shooting

Ten people were shot on Sunday in a Greenville, South Carolina, nightclub, suspected to be related to gang-related violence. The shooting killed two people and critically injured two others, police said.

Police believe more than one shooter fled the chaotic scene at the Lavish Lounge club. which held a very large crowd for “some type of Fourth of July concert,” Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said at a press conference. Two sheriff’s deputies were passing by the club shortly before 2 a.m. and heard shooting in a crowd of about 200 people, Lewis said. They called for backup and emergency services and went into the club, trying to evacuate, but apparently the shooter or shooters fled.

The Greenville News reported that there was a previous shooting early Saturday morning at a club next door to Lavish Lounge. Police were investigating a possible connection.

Kevin Harvick Wins Third NASCAR Brickyard 400 After Denny Hamlin Crash

With just seven laps to go at the Brickyard 400, Denny Hamlin hit the first turn wall, helping Kevin Harvick win the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.  Harvick now moves within one of tying Lee Petty for 11th on NASCAR’s career list, giving Stewart-Haas Racing a sweep of the weekend following Chase Briscoe’s win Saturday in the Xfinity Series race. Since racing resumed at Darlington in mid-May, Hamlin and Harvick have combined to win seven of 12 races.

On Lap 16, the race was red-flagged briefly after a six-car pileup near the entrance of pit road. Five of those involved didn’t finish the race and each was checked at the infield medical center and was released. NASCAR officials said Ryan Blaney’s tire changer, Zachary Price, was transported to a hospital after getting pinned between Blaney’s car and another. Price appeared okay as he was placed on a stretcher before he was taken away in an ambulance.

Justin Allgaier replaced Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 after Johnson tested positive for coronavirus on Friday. Johnson’s absence ended the longest active streak of consecutive starts at 663.

NHL And Players Association Agree On Protocols To Resume Season

On Sunday, the NHL and NHL Players’ Association agreed on protocols to resume the season. Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said the sides are still negotiating an extension of the collective bargaining agreement. A CBA extension is crucial to the process, and the league’s board of governors and players’ executive committee and full membership must still approve that and the return to play protocols to bring hockey back this summer.

If everything is ratified, it will end the shutdown that began in mid-March. Games would resume in late July or early August with 24 teams taking part in an expanded playoffs, finishing with the Stanley Cup being awarded in October.  Teams are expected to open training camps July 13 before traveling to two “hub” cities for games.

Once play resumes, one player’s positive coronavirus test result is not expected to shut down play entirely. The league has said it would isolate any player or staff member who tests positive, acknowledging an outbreak would threaten the remainder of the season. The league will be in charge of testing players daily once they get to their game city.

Kacey Musgraves And Husband Ruston Kelly Split After 2 Years Of Marriage

Two-and-a-half years after they tied the knot in Tennesseecountry singer Kacey Musgraves and her singer-songwriter husband, Ruston Kelly, have called it quits.

Their reps confirmed to the news in a joint statement, saying: “With heavy but hopeful hearts we wanted to put our own thoughts into the air about what’s happening. These kinds of announcements are always met with scrutiny and speculation and we want to stop that before it even starts,” their statement said. “We believe that we were put into each other’s lives for a divine reason and have both changed each other infinitely for the better. The love we have for each other goes far beyond the relationship we’ve shared as husband and wife. It’s a soul connection that can never be erased.”

The statement continued, “We’ve made this painful decision together — a healthy decision that comes after a very long period of trying the best we can. It simply just didn’t work. Though we are parting ways in marriage, we will remain true friends for the rest of our lives. We hold no blame, anger, or contempt for each other and we ask for privacy and positive wishes for us both as we learn how to navigate through this.”

The couple met in early 2016 while attending a songwriters’ showcase at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
