Actor Eddie Hassell Killed In Texas Shooting At Age 30

Eddie Hassell, an actor best known for his roles in the Oscar-nominated film The Kids Are All Right and the NBC television series Surface, has died at the age of 30.  The actor died on Sunday after he was fatally shot while outside of his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Hassel’s rep said that the shooting appeared to be tied to a carjacking. A spokesperson for the Grand Prairie Police Department released a statement noting that “the motive is still under investigation but detectives can confirm a car was taken from the scene and later recovered.”  According to The Associated Press, police took the actor to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The outlet added that no arrests have yet been made tied to the case.

Hassell starred in several small roles before appearing in The Kids Are All Right alongside Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo in 2010. He also appeared in the sci-fi series Surface beside Leighton Meester and Lake Bell, and had a small part in the Lifetime drama Devious Maids

David Lee Roth Honors Eddie Van Halen With Unreleased Song

David Lee Roth honored Eddie Van Halen with an online stream of a previously unreleased song called “Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar and Grill”, off Roth’s unreleased album that he wrote and recorded with John 5.

Roth shared a video of the track with a graphic that paid tribute to his late bandmate Eddie Van Halen. It said, “Hey Ed. I’m gonna miss ya’ See you on the other side.” During an interview last year Roth was asked if the album would ever see the light of day, in which he replied, “It will. There’s been a revision of things, and I can start making real plans and start marching into the future. And, of course, you’ll start hearing that material. This is material that we wrote variously for me solo and for Van Halen, and it’s quite a bank of stuff.”

Supreme Court In Texas Denise Request To Throw Out 127,000 Drive-Thru Votes

On Sunday, the Texas Supreme Court rejected a petition seeking to invalidate 127,000 votes cast at drive-thru polling stations in the state’s most populous county, Harris County. The court denied the challenge by a Republican activist and three Republican candidates in the state arguing that the drive-thru polling sites in the largely Democratic Harris County are unconstitutional. The court denied the request without an order or opinion. An emergency hearing will be held on Monday morning in Houston for a challenge by the same plaintiffs in federal court.

Drive-thru ballots account for about 10% of in-person ballots cast through the state’s early voting period. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the county set up 10 drive-thru centers where voters can pull up in their vehicles and vote on an electronic tablet passed through their window by a poll worker after having their registrations and identifications confirmed. The plaintiffs argued drive-thru voting was an expansion of the state’s curbside voting policy and should only be available to people with disabilities. The Harris County Clerk’s Office countered that its drive-thru locations are separate and distinct polling places from the curbside locations and therefore can be utilized by all voters.

All 11 Regions In Illinois To Be Under COVID-19 Restrictions As Cases Surge

As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Illinois at an unprecedented rate, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on Sunday that new restrictions will be placed in all eleven regions of Illinois.

Pritzker will be imposing a ban on indoor service at bars and restaurants, among other restrictions, this week for Region 2 — which covers 20 North-Central counties, including Rock Island, Kendall and Knox counties — after the area saw an average positivity rate above the 8% positivity threshold for three consecutive days. Starting Wednesday, all 11 of the state’s regions will be operating under the governor’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Pritzker, who hinted last week the peak of this outbreak is still nowhere in sight, said the mitigation measures are being put in place to help limit the spread of the virus. “As cases, hospitalizations and deaths are rising across our state, across the Midwest and across the nation, we have to act responsibly and collectively to protect the people we love,” Pritzker said in a statement.

The news comes as state health officials announced 6,980 new cases and an additional 35 coronavirus-related deaths, making Sunday the fifth consecutive day Illinois’ daily caseload has topped 6,000 — a number that far exceeds anything seen in the state’s previous COVID-19 peak in May.

More than 119,600 people tested positive for the virus in Illinois over the last 30 days, and the state has broken the daily caseload record five out of the last 12 days, including Saturday when state health officials announced 7,899 new cases. Even more concerning, Illinois hospitals are treating the most coronavirus patients they’ve seen since the end of May.

QB Tua Tagovailoa’s First NFL Start For The Miami Dolphins Brings Them To Victory Over the Rams

Rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa, aided by the Dolphins defense, earned Miami the win over the Los Angeles Rams in Tagovailoa’s first NFL start on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Tagovailoa — the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft — completed 12 of 22 pass attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown and did not throw an interception in the 28-17 win. The Dolphins scored touchdowns on a fumble return and a punt return in the victory. The Rams out-gained the Dolphins 436 to 139 in total yards, but had four turnovers.

“It takes a team effort,” Dolphins coach Brian Flores said. “There are 11 guys on the field. All the guys work hard. Everybody’s roll is important, but it was a total team effort — offense, defense and special teams.” The Dolphins next face the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 8 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The Rams have a Week 9 bye before they host the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 15 in Inglewood, Calif.

Baltimore Ravens OT Ronnie Stanley Out For Season With Ankle Injury

Just two days after signing a five-year, $98.75-million contract extension, Baltimore Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley suffered a season-ending ankle injury in his team’s 28-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With 57 seconds left in the quarter, the Steelers’ defensive front overwhelmed the Baltimore line and sacked quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Trainers rushed onto the field, and Jackson ran over to Stanley as the offensive tackle remained on the ground with trainers tending to his lower left leg, fitting an immobilizing cast on his leg. Stanley was later ruled out for the remainder of the game. Ravens Coach John Harbaugh did not specify the exact nature of the injury but called it “severe” and confirmed Stanley would miss the remainder of the season.
