‘Jeopardy!’ Shares Alex Trebek’s Posthumous Thanksgiving Message

The late Alex Trebek pre-recorded a special Thanksgiving message while filming an episode of Jeopardy! The official Jeopardy! Twitter account shared the pre-recorded video on Thursday, stating that his message was “high on our list of things to be thankful for.”

In his message, Trebek reminded everyone that there are “reasons to be thankful” despite having to celebrate amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, saying, “You know, in spite of what America and the rest of the world is experiencing right now, there are many reasons to be thankful. There are more and more people extending helpful hands to do a kindness to their neighbors, and that’s a good thing.” Trebek ended his message by encouraging everyone to “keep the faith.” “We’re going to get through all of this, and we will be a better society because of it.”

Trebek passed away at the age of 80 on Nov. 8 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The longtime gameshow host had taped his final episodes just two weeks before his death. Former Jeopardy! player Ken Jennings will serve as interim host of the syndicated series when it resumes production Nov. 30.

Dow Hits 30,000 As Presidential Transition Officially Goes Forward

Dow Jones Industrial Average traded above 30,000 for the first time as President-elect Joe Biden formally begins his transition.

Stocks finished higher Tuesday, with the Dow finishing up nearly 455 points, or 1.54%, to 30,046, and set an intraday all-time high of 30,116. The S&P 500 gained 1.62% and the Nasdaq Composite finished up 1.31%.

Reports said Biden would nominate former Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen as treasury secretary. Yellen would be the first woman to lead the department. She also was the first woman to serve as Fed chair after her Senate confirmation in 2014. In addition, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will put $455 billion in unspent Cares Act funding into an account that Yellen will need authorization from Congress to access. Mnuchin plans to place the money into the agency’s General Fund, a Treasury Department spokesperson said Tuesday. That fund can be tapped only with “authority based on congressionally issued legislation,” according to the Treasury’s website.

Chicago White Sox To Host New York Yankees In ‘Field Of Dreams’ Game In 2021

Major League Baseball announced that the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will meet in August 2021 for the “Field of Dreams” game in Iowa. The Yankees and White Sox were scheduled to meet there in 2020, but the game was scrubbed amid the coronavirus-shortened 60-game regular season.

Tentatively scheduled for Aug. 12, 2021 and set for Dyersville, Iowa, the ‘Field of Dreams’ matchup is contingent upon the status of public health next summer, and the feasibility of ticket availability will be evaluated in the months ahead.

MLB built a temporary ballpark adjacent to the ‘‘Field of Dreams’’ movie site with a potential capacity for 8,000. Slated for a Thursday night, it would be the first MLB game played in Iowa. The Sox and Yankees were in the original plans for the game this past August.

Bam Adebayo And Miami Heat Agree To 5-year Extension Worth $163M

Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat agreed on a five-year extension that will be worth at least $163 million, according to the team and Adebayo’s agent Alex Saratsis. The contract will officially be signed once Adebayo completes a physical.

Adebayo will make $5.1 million this season, the final year of his rookie contract. From there, the extension will kick in with a starting salary of somewhere around $28.1 million for the 2021-22 season. The 6-foot-10 Adebayo is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists this past season. Only one other player in the league had those numbers — two-time reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. And no player in Heat history ever finished a season with those averages in all three categories, until Adebayo.

Adebayo will become the fourth member of the 2017 NBA draft class to secure a max extension, the others being Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox, Utah’s Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum.
