Olivia Rodrigo debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 with “Driver’s License”

Olivia Rodrigo is kicking off 2021 with a No. 1 hit single. Rodrigo’s debut, “driver’s license” has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. Billboard reports that the song earned 76.1 million on-demand streams in its first week of availability, the biggest debut streaming week for a single in history.

At just 17, Rodrigo was best known as the star of Disney shows Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Her song’s fast rise to the top lead to speculation that the lyrics of “driver’s license” addressed her former relationship with her HSM co-star Joshua Bassett. Rodrigo is now one of the first artists ever to debut a song at No. 1 without a well-established music career.

“driver’s license” is the first single from Rodrigo’s upcoming EP, which has yet to reveal a release date.

Inauguration rehearsal interrupted by security alert due to nearby fire

Inauguration rehearsals in Washington, D.C., were interrupted and the U.S. Capitol was locked down Monday after a nearby fire caused a temporary security alert. The U.S. Secret Service said in an announcement that the Capitol complex was shut down “out of an abundance of caution” in response to “a small fire in the area of 1st and F streets SE.” The emergency alert was issued just as a dress rehearsal for the swearing-in of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice president-elect Kamala Harris was about to begin. Participants for the outdoor event were rushed back into the building; when the threat was cleared, rehearsals resumed.

The actual inauguration will take place Wednesday on the West front of the U.S. Capitol building at noon. Biden will deliver an inaugural address, though most of the events will be virtual this year, because of the pandemic and security threats after the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a mob on Jan. 6.

On Wednesday afternoon, the oaths of office will be followed by the Pass In Review on the East front of the building with members of the military, which is the traditional ceremony for the peaceful transfer of power to a new commander-in-chief.

“Celebrating America,” a 90-minute live special, will air Wednesday evening and will feature remarks from Biden and Harris, as well as tributes to COVID-19 first responders.

Cleveland Cavaliers look to trade or waive Kevin Porter after outburst

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to trade or waive guard/forward Kevin Porter Jr. after he had an outburst with team officials. Sources on Monday that the Cavaliers plan to move on from Porter, after Porter became angry Friday when the team gave his old locker to teammate Taurean Prince. Prince joined the team last week after he was traded from the Brooklyn Nets.

20-year-old Porter has not played this season for what the team has called “personal reasons.” He was arrested in November and faced charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, failure to control the vehicle and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, before those charges were dismissed. He practiced Thursday before he attended his first game of the season Friday in Cleveland

The 6-foot-4, 203-pound Porter averaged 10 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in 50 appearances in 2019-20, entering the league as the No. 30 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Next up, the Cavaliers will host the Nets at 7 p.m. EST on Wednesday in Cleveland.
