NBA postpones three games after four players on the Spurs test positive for COVID-19

The NBA announced on Tuesday that the San Antonio Spurs have postponed their next three games after four players from the team tested positive for COVID-19. The Charlotte Hornets, who hosted the Spurs on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C., also are undergoing contact tracing and have postponed their next two games.

The Spurs were scheduled to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday in Cleveland, the New York Knicks on Saturday in New York and the Indiana Pacers on Monday in Indianapolis. The Hornets had been scheduled to host the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday and the Denver Nuggets on Friday in Charlotte.

The NBA said the games were postponed because the teams wouldn’t have the league-required eight players available to participate. More than two dozen NBA games have been postponed so far this season due to positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing and quarantines.

Minnesota Timberwolves’ D’Angelo Russell to miss 4-6 weeks due to knee surgery

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced on Tuesday that guard D’Angelo Russell will have surgery to remove a loose body in his left knee, a procedure that will keep him off the court for four to six weeks. The 24-year-old hasn’t played for most of February, with a quad issue forcing him out before left leg soreness sidelined him in a Feb. 8 game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Russell is averaging 19.3 points, 5.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds through 20 games this season. Without Russell, the Timberwolves will have Ricky Rubio and Jordan McLaughlin step up at point guard.
