Kansas City deal with COVID-19 scare after Chiefs’ barber tests positive ahead of Super Bowl LV

The Kansas City Chiefs had 20 players and staff members scheduled for a haircut Sunday with a barber who just tested positive for COVID-19. League sources said on Wednesday that reserve offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore was in the chair getting a haircut Sunday when the organization informed the barber of his positive coronavirus test. Kansas City removed the barber and canceled his other scheduled haircuts, which included quarterback Patrick Mahomes, to prevent additional players from further exposure ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The barber tested negative five consecutive days before he was allowed to enter the Chiefs’ facility. Kilgore and the barber both were wearing masks; the barber said he also cut Chiefs receiver Demarcus Robinson’s hair on Saturday away from the team’s facility. As a result, the Chiefs placed Kilgore and Robinson on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday after they were considered to be close contacts. Both players have not been allowed to practice with the team but they can play in Super Bowl LV on Sunday against the Buccaneers if they record negative tests for five straight days.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. EST Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Brothers Osborne’s T.J. Osborne comes out as gay

T.J. Osborne of Brothers Osborne has come out as gay in a new interview with Time.  The 36-year-old musician said in a feature story published on Wednesday, February 3rd that “I’m ready to put this behind me,” and while he’s known he was gay since he was young, only T.J.’s close friends and family knew about it. T.J. said: “I’m very comfortable being gay. I find myself being guarded for not wanting to talk about something that I personally don’t have a problem with. That feels so strange.”

T.J. is the first openly gay artist signed to a major country record label. He admitted that he’s a bit concerned about the way country music fans will react to the news, saying, “People will ask, ‘Why does this even need to be talked about?’ and personally, I agree with that.” T.J.also said he came out to his brother, John, shortly after they moved to Nashville. John said, “He was very open and candid about it, and I was emotional, because my brother was finally able to be completely honest with me about who he was. How often, in life, do we hold back parts of ourselves and wish that we didn’t?” John added, “If I had to have all my money and success erased for my brother to be truly fulfilled in life, I wouldn’t even think about it. Not for a second.”

Noah Centineo attached to Netflix project about GameStop drama

Streaming service Netflix is in talks to make a movie about the recent GameStop drama that hit Wall Street.  The film will center on the ongoing battle between hedge funds and the amateur Reddit traders who caused GameStop stock to skyrocket to more than 1,700 percent last week through investing apps like Robinhood.

Deadline reported that the currently untitled film would star “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” actor Noah Centineo and be produced by Brad Weston and Nick Styne. “The Hurt Locker” screenwriter Mark Boal is in negotiations to write it, and NYU Stern marketing professor Scott Galloway is in talks to consult on the script, the sources said.

In addition to the GameStop saga, sources say the movie will explore how social media was used to spread baseless claims about voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election

LA Angels suspend pitching coach Mickey Callaway due to investigation into multiple harassment allegations

Los Angeles Angels pitching coach Mickey Callaway was suspended Tuesday after he was accused by multiple women of sending sexually suggestive messages and making inappropriate advances.  The Angels said in a statement they will continue working with Major League Baseball to conduct an investigation.

Callaway, 45, was hired as the Angels’ pitching coach in October 2019, weeks after his dismissal following two seasons as manager of the New York Mets. In a story published Monday by The Athletic, five women journalists accused Callaway of inappropriate behavior. The accusations date back to Callaway’s stint as Cleveland Indians pitching coach from 2013-2017 and continued through his stint as Mets manager in 2018-19. He continued contacting some of the women into 2020 after he moved on as pitching coach with the Angels.  The accusers categorized Callaway’s behavior – which included asking women for explicit photos – as something of an open secret within the game.
