Jacksonville Jaguars sign cornerback Shaquill Griffin to 3-year, $45.5M deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin to a three-year, $44.5 million deal on Tuesday. Griffin’s deal will reportedly include $29 million in guaranteed money.  Griffin has been with Seattle for the last four seasons after being selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He earned his first career Pro Bowl selection in 2019, and racked up a career-high three interceptions in 2020. Seattle finished No. 15 in points allowed last season.

The Jaguars are in the midst of a lengthy rebuild as 2021 approaches. They hired former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer in January, and they are expected to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Jacksonville has also reached agreements with seven players as of Monday, including defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris and safety Rayshawn Jenkins. Running back Carlos Hyde will also join the Jaguars in 2021 on a two-year, $6 million deal.

FBI concludes that Nashville Christmas day bomber was dealing with paranoia and conspiracy theories; not linked to terrorism

The bomber responsible for a powerful explosion set off in downtown Nashville early on Christmas Day meant it as an act of suicide rather than of terrorism, the FBI said in a report issued Monday. The suspect, identified as 63-year-old Anthony Quinn Warner, died in the blast but no one else was injured in the early morning explosion on a deserted street just north of downtown Nashville’s historic Honky Tonk district. Investigators said Warner rigged an improvised explosive device to detonate in an RV parked next to an AT&T cellular transmission building, causing extensive damage and cellphone service to three states to be disrupted for several days due to the bombing.

The FBI announced Monday that following a “coordinated and comprehensive investigation” conducted by the federal, state and local law enforcement, evidence shows Warner acted alone and the bombing was not related to terrorism. The investigators added that the bombing was “an intentional act in an effort to end [Warner’s] own life,” motivated by “a totality of life stressors — including paranoia, long-held individualized beliefs adopted from several eccentric conspiracy theories, and the loss of stabilizing anchors and deteriorating interpersonal relationships.” Warner specifically chose the location and timing of the bombing so that “it would be impactful while still minimizing the likelihood of causing undue injury,” the statement said.

The official investigation included combing through 2,500 tips and conducting more than 250 interviews, and the FBI said it “did not reveal indications of a broader ideological motive to use violence to bring about social or political change.” Authorities had looked into theories that Warner may have been motivated by conspiracy theories related to the 2020 presidential election and the installation of 5G cellular networks.

6 injured, 3 killed when car drives into pedestrians under San Diego bridge

Three people were killed and six others were injured on Monday when a car drove off the road and into a group of people sheltering under a San Diego bridge, officials said. San Diego Fire Chief Colin Stowell said at a news conference that two of those injured were in critical condition at area hospitals

Police and fire crews responded to the scene near San Diego City College shortly after 9 a.m. Monday to find “multiple people” dead and injured after being struck by a Volvo station wagon that veered completely onto the sidewalk. Fire Chief Stowell called the incident “a very tragic emergency incident that impacts all of us” and said that fire crews “did the best they could with the resources there” in trying to save the lives of those who died. San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said that officers detained the driver of the car, identified only as 71-year-old man, and are investigating him for possible charges of impaired driving.

Lady A release new song “Like a Lady”

Lady A is back with their latest single “Like A Lady,” co-written by Lady A’s Hillary Scott with Dave Barnes, Michelle Buzz, Martin Johnson and Brandon Paddock and produced by Dann Huff.

“Like A Lady” is “an upbeat, attitude-filled song about living life on your own terms and living like a lady, whatever that means to you.” Scott said she took inspiration for the song from two of country music’s other leading ladies: Dolly Parton and Shania Twain: “As we were writing it, I was like, ‘It’s always been my dream to do a song that combines the things I love about Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ and Shania Twain’s ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’ – two of the most strong, powerful female songs ever. So it was like ‘How can we do our version of that?’”

“Like A Lady” is the band’s first single release since last year’s No. 1 hit “Champagne Night.” Take a look at the making of the music video for the new single – here.

“The Talk” goes on hiatus after controversy between host Sharon Osbourne and co-hosts

CBS’s The Talk is going on hiatus following co-host Sharon Osbourne’s defense of Piers Morgan during last Wednesday’s episode of the show. Osbourne, 68, defended her friend Morgan following backlash for his controversial remarks questioning the validity of Meghan Markle’s comments during her recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.  Osbourne’s defense of Morgan led to an intense exchange with co-host Sheryl Underwood, 57, who pushed back on Osbourne’s downplaying of Morgan’s comments. Osbourne apologized days later for her remarks on air.  CBS confirmed that The Talk would be taking a brief hiatus while the network conducts an internal investigation into the argument.

Morgan, 55, faced widespread criticism for comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex on Good Morning Britain, and after his co-host Alex Beresford called him out on-air, Morgan stormed off set. It was later announced that Morgan would be leaving the ITV morning news show. Osbourne defended Morgan on Twitter, writing at the time, “I am with you. I stand by you.” After her initial show of support for Morgan on Twitter, Osbourne said that she had been accused of being racist during Wednesday’s episode of The Talk. Underwood pushed back, asking: “What would you say to people who may feel that while you’re standing by your friend, it appears you gave validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist, even if you don’t agree?” Early on Friday morning, Osbourne shared a statement on Twitter apologizing for any harm she may have caused in supporting Morgan.

The Talk airs live at 2 p.m. ET on weekdays, also features co-hosts Carrie Ann Inaba, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth.
