Brad Keselowski wins in overtime at Geico 500 at Talladega Speedway

Brad Keselowski led just one lap in Sunday’s Geico 500 -the most important lap, the last — which helped him become a six-time winner at Talladega Superspeedway. Keselowski’s victory came in overtime and it gave him his first victory of the season in his No. 2 Team Penske Ford.

Finishing second was William Byron of Hendrick Motorsports, who was looking for his second win of the season. Coming in third was 2021 Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell, and rounding out the top five were Kevin Harvick of Stewart-Haas Racing and Matt DiBenedetto, who restarted the race in OT with the lead and who was attempting to give the iconic Wood Brothers Racing team its 100th victory in Cup.

Playing a big role at the 2.66-mile Talladega track were crashes, including one on Lap 59 — the final lap of Stage 1 — when Joey Logano was knocked sideways. His car then went airborne before rolling down the track. Logano is a three-time winner at Talladega and had led 10 laps on Sunday. A second significant wreck occurred with two laps left in State 2, between Denny Hamlin, who led 44 laps to that point, his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex, Jr., Chase Elliott and his Hendrick Motorsports teammates Bryon and Alex Bowman. All continued on but the cars of Hamlin and Bowman suffered serious damage and fell off the lead lap.

Diamondbacks’ Madison Bumgarner tosses seven-inning no-hitter in 7-0 win over Braves

Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Madison Bumgarner threw an unofficial, seven-inning no-hitter Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. However, Bumgarner’s achievement will not go down as an official “no-hitter” since it occurred in a shortened, seven-inning game. Bumgarner fell six outs shy of the Elias Sports Bureau’s minimum number of outs needed for an official no-hitter.

Over his seven innings, the only baserunner for the Braves came in the second inning when Ozzie Albies reached on a throwing error by Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed. Albies was erased one batter later on a double-play ground ball.

“Saturday Night Live” announced they will be back on May 8 for its first episode since April 10, and also announced that Tesla CEO Elon Musk will be hosting the show for the first time, alongside musical Miley Cyrus, who will be making her sixth appearance as a musical guest on the show.

The show posted the news on social media, sharing a shot of the lineup on Twitter and Instagram. Musk, 49, tweeted, “Let’s find out just how live Saturday Night Live really is.”

Hayley Williams shares cover of Broadcast’s ‘Colour Me In’

Hayley Williams has shared her cover of Broadcast’s “Colour Me In” which had previously been released for 24 hours on voter registration compilation Good Music To Avert The Collapse Of American Democracy: a 40-track album featuring a variety of artists.

That album arrived shortly after the recent release of Williams’ acoustic EP, PETALS FOR ARMOR: SELF-SERENADES that was released in December. PETALS FOR ARMOR: SELF-SERENADES features stripped-down new renditions of “Simmer” and “Why We Ever” – both originally found on Williams’ internationally acclaimed debut solo album, PETALS FOR ARMOR – alongside the previously unheard “Find Me Here.”

Anti-Asian hate crime bill is passed by Senate

The Senate passed an anti-Asian hate crimes bill introduced amid a spate of violence spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act passed the chamber with a 94-1 vote on Thursday. Sen. Maize Hirono, D-Hawaii, introduced the bill last month along with Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., and Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y.

Hirono said in a statement: “Today’s historic, bipartisan vote on the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act sends a powerful message of solidarity to the [Asian American and Pacific Islander] community — that the United States Senate rejects anti-Asian hate. Now, I urge the House to swiftly pass this legislation so the bill can go to President [Joe] Biden to sign into law.”

The legislation seeks to combat a surge in incidents of physical, verbal and online attacks. The bill also directs state and local law enforcement to establish a method for hate crimes and incidents to be reported online in multiple languages, expand public education campaigns and have the secretary of Health and Human Services issue best-practice guidance to mitigate racially discriminatory language in describing the COVID-19 pandemic.
