David Ellefson to sue for defamation over leaked videos which forced his firing from Megadeth

David Ellefson, the former Megadeth bassist, is looking to file a lawsuit against the individual who uploaded explicit videos of him online.  Earlier this month, leaked footage of what Ellefson called “personal conversations and interactions” were posted on Twitter by an anonymous user. The bassist has repeatedly denied suggestions that he had ‘groomed’ an underage fan, but admitted on Instagram that “private, adult interactions” had taken place, which he claimed were “taken out of context and manipulated to inflict maximum damage to my reputation, my career and family.”  The woman involved also came forward to deny the suggestion that she was underage at the time the video calls took place, to say that she initiated their online interactions, and also to deny that she was ‘groomed‘ by Ellefson.  “I was always a consenting adult,” she stated. “Nothing inappropriate ever happened before that. It was all consensual, I’m not a victim and I have not been groomed in the slightest as I was the one to initiate it.”

As a direct consequence of the controversy over the leaked footage, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine announced earlier this week that the group were parting ways with Ellefson, who originally joined the band in 1983. “While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward,” Mustaine wrote.

‘Once Upon A One More Time’ musical, featuring the music of Britney Spears, gets ready to hit the stage

The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. announced Thursday that it will stage “Once Upon a One More Time,” featuring the music of Britney Spears, including “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Stronger” and “Toxic.”  The musical, directed and choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid, will have an original story written by Jon Hartmere.  Once Upon A One More Time centers around the tale of a women’s book club made up of classic Disney princesses such as Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and more who all experience a feminist awakening after a fairy godmother shows up with a couple copies of Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique.

Spears is not directly involved in the production, but gave it her stamp of approval back in 2019 and attended one of its early rehearsals.  Said Spears at the time: “I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs – especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore.”

Once Upon a One More Time begins performances at Sidney Harman Hall on Nov. 29.  The pre-Broadway world premiere of the show begins April 14 for a 5-week run in Chicago.

President Biden asks to have intelligence agencies further investigate origins of COVID-19

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden said he has asked the intelligence community to “redouble their efforts” to find the likely origins of COVID-19 and provide him with a report within 90 days. Biden said that questions continue to grow about whether the coronavirus was caused by an accident in a Chinese laboratory or if it developed from human contact from an infected animal. Biden said in a statement, “I have also asked that this effort include work by our national labs and other agencies of our government to augment the intelligence community’s efforts.”

Biden said he’s asked for further inquiries that may be required, including specific questions for China. The President added that the U.S. intelligence community has “coalesced around two likely scenarios,” but “had not reached a definitive conclusion.” Most of the intelligence community lean toward the likelihood that the virus emerged from human contact with an infected animal, however others lean towards the possibility of a laboratory accident.  Said Biden: “The majority of the intelligence community members do not believe there is sufficient information to assess one to be more likely than the other. The United States will also keep working with like-minded partners around the world to press China to participate in a full, transparent, evidence-based international investigation and to provide access to all relevant data and evidence.”

Republicans senators questioned Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, about the lab leak theory at a Senate appropriations committee hearing Wednesday. Fauci said he still believes the virus occurred naturally, but supported the idea that investigations should continue to determine what happened.

At least eight people were killed during a shooting at the VTA light rail yard in San Jose, California. Police spokesman Russell Davis said the gunman, an employee at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail hub. Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said the gunman took his own life. The suspect was identified as Samuel J. Cassidy, 57, who has been licensed with the Bureau of Automotive Repair as a smog check repair technician since 2003. He previously worked for a car dealership in the city. Around the same time of the shooting, the San Jose Fire Department responded to a large structure fire at an address listed to Cassidy.

The VTA runs three light rail lines covering more than 40 miles, and also operates 70 bus lines in the region. The incident also marks the Santa Clara County’s second mass shooting in less than two years. Angels’ Mickey Callaway fired and banned from MLB until at least end of 2022 season after sexual misconduct allegations

In a statement released Wednesday, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said that Los Angeles Angels pitching coach Mickey Callaway was placed on MLB’s ineligible list through the end of the 2022 season after the league’s investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct, concluding during their investigation that Calloway “violated MLB’s policies and that placement on the ineligible list is warranted.”  MLB said Callaway’s placement on the ineligible list is immediate, and he will be eligible to apply for potential reinstatement at the end of the 2022 campaign.  The Angels issued a follow-up statement announcing the firing of Callaway as pitching coach, adding: “We appreciate Major League Baseball’s diligent investigation and support their decision.”
Callaway said in a press release: “My family and I fully support MLB’s strong stance against harassment and discrimination and are grateful to the Commissioner and his office for their thorough investigation. I apologize to the women who shared with investigators any interaction that made them feel uncomfortable. To be clear, I never intended to make anyone feel this way and didn’t understand that these interactions might do that or violate MLB policies. However, those are my own blind spots, and I take responsibility for the consequences. In my 25 years in professional baseball I have never taken for granted the privilege of being even a small part of this great game of ours. To say I regret my past poor choices would be an understatement. I remain hopeful that I can return to baseball when eligible at the conclusion of next season, but for now, I plan to work on my own shortcomings and repairing any damage I have caused with my colleagues and, particularly, my family.”
Five anonymous women, all of whom work in sports media, accused Callaway of inappropriate behavior earlier this year. According to the women. The alleged behavior spanned nearly five years and his employment with three organizations, including his time as the Cleveland Indians’ pitching coach and manager of the New York Mets.  The Angels, who hired Callaway as the team’s pitching coach after the 2019 season, suspended Callaway in February.
