Heart’s Ann Wilson announces solo U.S. tour

Heart’s Ann Wilson announced new solo tour dates, with shows on schedule for mid-to-late August. The singer will kick off her new trek on Aug. 14 in Alexandria, Va., before heading north through Maryland, New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire, concluding with two consecutive nights at City Winery New York on Aug. 23 and 24.

Wilson’s tour also includes the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Never Forget Concert on Aug. 21 at the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y. Wilson will share the bill with Journey, John Fogerty, Steve Miller Band, Run-D.M.C. and several other artists. The Never Forget Concert honors Stephen Siller, a Brooklyn firefighter who, on Sept. 11, 2001, strapped 60 pounds of gear to his back and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on foot to rescue people from the World Trade Center, perishing in the blaze himself. Proceeds from the Never Forget Concert will benefit the ‘Tunnel to Towers Foundation,’ which pays off mortgages of law enforcement officers and firefighters who died in the line of duty or suffer from 9/11-related illnesses while providing Smart Homes for injured veterans or their surviving spouses.  The concert will also be recorded for future broadcast.

Ticket information can be found on Wilson’s website.

Whitesnake announce first concert dates on ‘Farewell Tour’

David Coverdale has confirmed Whitesnake’s 2 first appearances on its upcoming farewell tour: a pair of European festivals next summer, including France’s Hellfest on June 23, 2022 and Spain’s Rock Imperium Festival the same weekend.

“We can’t wait to see you & play for you at Hellfest Open Air Festival!!! We are so incredibly excited to announce our participation in the Rock Imperium Festival as part of the forthcoming farewell tour,” said Coverdale.

The 69-year-old Coverdale recently confirmed that he plans to retire from touring after Whitesnake’s next run of shows worldwide. Last year, Whitesnake was forced to cancel its U.S. tour along with Sammy Hagar & The Circle and Night Ranger so that Coverdale could undergo surgery for bilateral inguinal hernia. Eventually, all of the shows were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Halsey reveals cover art and release date for new album ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’

On Wednesday July 7th, Halsey revealed the artwork to her forthcoming album titled If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, posting a teaser video.

Halsey wrote on Instagram “This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months. The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully. My body has belonged to the world in many different ways the past few years, and this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being. This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired,” she adds. “We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction.”

‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’, produced by Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross, is Halsey’s 4th studio release and the follow-up to last year’s Manic.  ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ will drop August 27; you can preorder the LP – here.

Biden administration extends TPS protections for immigrants from Yemen

The Biden administration extended eligibility deportation relief for Yemeni nationals on Tuesday. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and re-designated Yemen for 18 months of Temporary Protected Status from Sept. 4 through March 3, 2023.  The extension allows approximately 1,700 Yemenis currently benefiting from TPS to retain their protection through March 2023 and allows an additional 480 Yemini nationals, or people who have no nationality but last resided in Yemen, to apply for protection.

Mayorkas made the decision to re-designate Yemen for TPS protection in response to the six-year civil war and issues such as lack of food, water and healthcare, large-scale destruction of infrastructure, population displacement, a cholera outbreak that has been ongoing since 2016, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayorkas said: “Yemen continues to experience worsening humanitarian and economic conditions that prevent individuals from safely returning to their homes. Therefore, I have decided to extend and re-designate Yemen for Temporary Protected Status. We will continue to protect and offer these individuals a place of residency temporarily in the United States.”

Elsa regains Cat 1 hurricane strength as it approaches Tampa, Florida

Elsa regained hurricane strength as it moved toward Tampa up along the southwestern coast of Florida.  The National Hurricane Center said on Tuesday evening that Elsa had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, making it a Category 1 hurricane once again, and was moving north at 14 mph. Elsa had previously been categorized as a hurricane late last week as it neared the Caribbean before weakening into a tropical storm.

The NHC said in its update. “On Wednesday morning, Elsa is forecast to make landfall along the north Florida Gulf coast and then move across the southeastern United States through Thursday. Slow strengthening is forecast through tonight, and Elsa could be near hurricane strength before it makes landfall in Florida.” The NHC noted in its updated tropical storm-force winds and heavy rainfall in the Florida Keys.

Elsa was forecast to produce between 3-5 inches of rain through Wednesday across the Florida Keys and into southwest and western portions of the peninsula, with the rest of the state expected to receive between 2-4 inches. The NHC said there’s also a tornado threat in Elsa’s path, adding that the threat will continue into Wednesday across north Florida, southeast Georgia and parts of South Carolina.

Sha’carri Richardson left off of U.S. Olympic relay team; will miss Tokyo Olympics

Sha’Carri Richardson was not chosen to compete on an Olympic relay team and will completely miss out on the Tokyo Olympics, having been previously disqualified from the women’s 100 meters after testing positive for marijuana following her qualifying run. USA Track and Field (USATF) said on Tuesday said that coaches chose not to add Richardson to the roster in an effort to “maintain fairness” for all the other athletes who adhered to the banned substances rules. Javianne Oliver, Teahna Daniels, Jenna Prandini and Gabby Thomas will race for Team U.S.A. in the 4×100 meters relay.

Richardson had initially qualified for the Tokyo games on June 19 after coming in first in the 100 meters final at the Olympic trials, but after her positive drug test, she was required to forfeit her victory and give up all medals, points and prizes from the event — including her spot at the women’s 100 meters event in Tokyo — according to the U.S. Anti Doping Agency.  Richardson was suspended for 30 days as a result of the drug test, but the suspension would have ended before the women’s 4×100 meters relay in Tokyo. Coaches are allowed to select runners for the relay team that didn’t qualify for the games at Olympic trials.

Richardson admitted she used marijuana to cope with the death of her biological mother and partook in Oregon, where the substance is legal, but is not making excuses and is taking responsibility for her actions. Richardson said: “I know what I did. I know what I’m supposed to do … and I still made that decision.”
