Nine Inch Nails cancels all 2021 shows due to COVID-19 concerns

Out of health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nine Inch Nails announced they are cancelling all 2021 shows until next year. Cases of the coronavirus have begun to surge again in the United States due to the highly contagious Delta variant, and aside from NIN, numerous acts have been canceling upcoming shows and tours — among them Garth Brooks, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Tony Bennett and more.

In a statement released on their website and social media accounts, Nine Inch Nails wrote, “It is with great regret that we are cancelling all NIN appearances for the remainder of the year. When originally planned, these shows were intended to be a cathartic and celebratory return to live music. However, with each passing day it’s becoming more apparent we’re not at that place yet. We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment and look forward to seeing you again when the time is right.”

The band will no longer headline the Riot Fest or Louder Than Life festivals in September. NIN were also scheduled to headline Rockville Fest in November.  As of press time, Nine Inch Nails’ website only has one upcoming show posted on their schedule — Hellfest, set for June 24, 2022.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak delay the release of Silk Sonic’s debut album until 2022

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s debut album as ‘Silk Sonic’ has been pushed back to January 2022; previously the project was scheduled to drop this fall.  The duo revealed in a new interview with Rolling Stone that an exact release date for ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’ has not been determined.

“We’re really in touch-up mode now,” Mars said in the interview. “We’ve got the bones of most of the album, so it’s really about touching up parts that need a little more… Grease.” Mars said elsewhere in the story that more singles will be released in the lead-up to the album: “I don’t want to be binge-watched.”

After debuting with “Leave the Door Open” this past spring, Mars and .Paak waited a few months before releasing the follow-up single “Skate” at the end of July.

White House prepared to begin rolling out COVID booster shots by the week of Sept. 20

The nation’s top health officials announced Wednesday that the Biden administration is prepared to begin rolling out booster shots for many Americans the week of Sept. 20th. Citing data that show the effectiveness of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines against COVID-19 diminishes over time, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said at a White House briefing: “Having reviewed the most current data, it is now our clinical judgment that the time to lay out a plan for COVID-19 boosters is now.” A final plan was still contingent upon the official sign-off by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recommendation will be that anyone who received Pfizer or Moderna vaccines should get a booster shot eight months after their second shot, with health care workers, nursing home residents and seniors first in line.  CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said at the briefing that Wednesday’s decision was largely based on data showing that vaccines are still working and are the best assurances against severe illness or death — but according to CDC data, key metric could also wane in a few months.  Walensky added: “Even though our vaccines are currently working well to prevent hospitalizations, we are seeing concerning evidence of waning vaccine effectiveness over time and against the delta variant. Given this body of evidence, we are concerned that the current strong protection against severe infection, hospitalization and death could decrease in the months ahead, especially among those who are at higher risk or who were vaccinated earlier during the phase of our vaccination rollout.”
