John Corbett reveals he and Bo Derek were married last year

‘Sex and the City’ star John Corbett and actress Bo Derek were married last year. Corbett appeared on the Aug. 3 episode of ‘The Talk’ and told his friend and co-host, Jerry O’Connell, that he and Bo secretly “got married” around Christmas of 2020.

“Jerry, I can’t believe that I forgot to tell you that around Christmas time we got married. Bo and I got married!”, John said, adding “You know, we’re pretty private people. We didn’t make an announcement. All our friends and family knew but, this is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because really we haven’t had an opportunity. So, you’re my buddy, and now I guess I’m telling all of America or the world. After 20 years, we decided to get married. We didn’t want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated…let’s get one nice this out of it.”

Corbett, 60, and Derek, 64, have been together for nearly two decades; they met in 2002 after being set up on a blind date.

Rage Against The Machine to headline Coachella 2022

Coachella cancelled their 2021 festival this year, and turned their focus on holding the festival in 2022. Co-founder Paul Tollett has divulged to the Los Angeles Times that Rage Against The Machine and Travis Scott (both of whom were supposed to headline in 2020) would top the 2022 bill, with a third headliner to be announced at a later date. Frank Ocean is slated to headline in 2023.

“Right now, it’s the Wild West,” said Tollett. “I’m just trying to be as fair as I can to artists and to the fans to make sure that eventually they get to see everyone that we talked about.”  With COVID surging this summer, Tollett assured that safety is their number one priority. “We’re monitoring everything,” he said. “I don’t want to put anything in cement right now, because I just don’t know.”

Coachella will be just one part of Rage Against The Machine’s highly anticipated reunion tour.

White House calling on states to prevent evictions as moratorium expires

The White House put pressure state and local governments to adopt policies to protect renters after an eviction moratorium expired over the weekend, a move which could potentially push millions of Americans out of their homes. The CDC put the eviction ban in place as part of the COVID-19 response when jobs shifted and many workers lost income. The ban was intended to hold back the spread of the virus among people put out on the streets and into shelters.

In a statement on Monday, the White House emphasized that the federal government has provided $46.5 billion to keep renters in their homes, but it accused states and cities of being “too slow to act,” preventing that aid from making its way to tenants whose livelihoods have been upended by the pandemic.

The focus on states comes as President Joe Biden faces criticism that he was was slow to address the end of the moratorium. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the prospect of widespread evictions “unfathomable.” Some people were at risk of losing their homes as soon as Monday; however the White House insists there is only so much it can do on its own and that state and local leaders need to step up and get the aid out. Gene Sperling, who oversees the administration’s coronavirus relief plans, told reporters: “The president is clear: If some states and localities can get this out efficiently and effectively there’s no reason every state and locality can’t. There is simply no excuse, no place to hide for any state or locality that is failing to accelerate their emergency” rental assistance.:

Mass evictions could potentially worsen the recent spread of the COVID-19 delta variant as roughly 1.4 million households told the Census Bureau they could “very likely” be evicted from their rentals in the next two months. Another 2.2 million say they’re “somewhat likely” to be evicted.

D.C. police officer who responded to Jan. 6 capitol riot found dead by suicide

Officials confirmed on Monday that another Washington, D.C. police officer who responded to the Jan. 6 riot at the capitol died by suicide. Officer Gunther Hashida, 43, was found dead at his home last Thursday. He is the third police officer who responded to the Capitol attack to die by suicide.

Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Brianna Burch said: “We are grieving as a department as our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Hashida’s family and friends.” Hashida joined the Metropolitan Police Department in May 2003 and was assigned to the emergency response team within the special operations division at the time of his death. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a statement sending “deepest condolences” to Hashida’s family and loved ones. “Officer Hashida was a hero, who risked his life to save our Capitol, the Congressional community and our very Democracy. All Americans are indebted to him for his great valor and patriotism on Jan. 6 throughout his selfless service,” she said.

Metropolitan Police Officer Jeffrey Smith, a 12-year veteran, and U.S. Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood, a 16-year veteran, also died after responding to the insurrection. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who also responded to the attack, died of natural causes after experiencing strokes.

Indianapolis Colts QB Carson Wentz to miss 5-12 weeks to undergo foot surgery

Indianapolis Colts QB Carson Wentz will be sidelined for about five to 12 weeks after undergoing foot surgery on Monday. Head coach Frank Reich told reporters that Wentz’s latest ailment resulted from an old high school injury, and a broken bone came loose in the signal-caller’s left foot. Colts offensive coordinator Marcus Brady said Friday that Wentz felt a “twinge in his foot” when he rolled out and planted to make a throw late in Thursday’s training camp practice. The Colts met with multiple doctors to determine the best course of action, with all parties involved agreeing that surgery was necessary to ensure the injury didn’t return. The procedure removed the bone out of the fifth metatarsal of Wentz’s left foot.

Reich said the wide range of the recovery timetable is because players have different recovery rates. The franchise could have a better understanding on Wentz’s return once he begins the rehabilitation process. Reich added: “Knowing Carson, I’m optimistic. Knowing this is the type of injury you don’t have to be pain-free to play in. You have to get to an acceptable level of tolerating pain and then you can start playing. That could happen early.”

The Colts acquired Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles during the off-season. The 28-year-old Wentz, who sustained a season-ending torn ACL late in the 2017 campaign, has played a full NFL season only twice in his career.
