Slipknot’s Corey Taylor says he’s ‘very very sick’ after testing positive for COVID-19

Update: Corey’s wife Alicia Taylor, took to Twitter on Sunday to update fans on Corey’s condition, saying: “Corey is doing well and thanks everyone for the sweet thoughts and messages. Ready to get him home as soon as it’s safe, so I can take care of him! He (very luckily) hasn’t lost his sense of taste or smell so I send him stupid amounts of snacks, hydration powders, and yummy desserts.”

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor was diagnosed with a breakthrough case of COVID-19.  The 47-year-old Taylor has been touring across the U.S. this summer in support of his solo album, 2020’s CMFT; the tour wrapped up on Aug. 19 in Denver before he tested positive for COVID-19 the next day.  Taylor says that the virus has made him “very, very sick,” forcing him to call off his appearance at the Michigan pop culture convention Astronomicon over the weekend. He shared the news in a video posted on the Facebook page for Astronomicon: “I wish I had better news. I woke up today and tested positive, and I’m very, very sick. So I’m not gonna be able to make it this weekend. And I am absolutely devastated. I am so sorry. I hope everyone has a good time, and I promise you I will absolutely try to get back there as soon as I can.”  Taylor said that because he was vaccinated, he “should be okay” and was “not worried” about his illness. He then added, “But I certainly wouldn’t want to spread it to anyone else. So, everybody be safe out there. And thank you so much. And I will see you again, I promise.”

Astronomicon organizers shared their own message on Facebook saying in part: We wish Corey a speedy recovery and we urge everyone to remain vigilant. If you’re coming to Astronomicon, please remember to wear a mask to keep yourself and everyone at the event safe.”

Newly named ‘Jeopardy!’ host Mike Richards steps down after past controversial comments resurface

Newly named “Jeopardy!” host Mike Richards is stepping down from his role amid controversy over past sexist and offensive comments he made in a 2014 podcast. In a memo Richards wrote to “Jeopardy!” staff, Richards announced that his “past incidents and comments have cast such a shadow” on the show.

Richards said, “over the last several days it has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show. As such, I will be stepping down as host effective immediately. As a result, we will be canceling production today.” Richards added that Sony Pictures Television, which produces the show, “will now resume the search for a permanent syndicated host. In the meantime, we will be bringing back guest hosts to continue production for the new season, details of which will be announced next week,” and apologized again, saying, “I want to apologize to each of you for the unwanted negative attention that has come to ‘Jeopardy!’ over the last few weeks and for the confusion and delays this is now causing. I know I have a lot of work to do to regain your trust and confidence.”  As of press time, Jeopardy!’s 38th season was still set to premiere on Sept. 13.

Richards’ announcement comes just a week after the announcement that he and former “Big Bang Theory” star Mayim Bialik were to alternate as “Jeopardy!” hosts.  The controversy surrounding Richards refers to comments he made on his “Randumb Show” podcast back in 2014, where he made sexist and racist remarks. The podcast episodes have been pulled from circulation.

Police identify suspect who surrendered after bomb threat near U.S. Capitol

A man was arrested Thursday after an hours-long standoff near the U.S. Capitol during which he claimed to have an explosive device. Police have identified the suspect as 49-year-old Floyd Ray Roseberry of Grover, North Carolina, and was described as having a history of supporting former President Donald Trump, who said “all Democrats need to step down.”

The U.S. Capitol Police wrote on Twitter that the incident on Thursday prompted multiple buildings in the area to be evacuated in what was labelled an “active bomb threat investigation.”  The USCP later said in a news release that no bomb was found in Roseberry’s truck but that he did possess suspected bomb-making material.  USCP Chief Tom Manger told reporters on Thursday that authorities couldn’t yet identify a motive, said that so far there is “no indication” Roseberry was acting with others. Manger revealed that Roseberry had been live-streaming from the scene and a half-hour Facebook video showed him inside a truck, holding a canister that he said was a bomb, speaking about a “revolution.” The video and Roseberry’s Facebook profile have since been removed. On Roseberry’s now-removed Facebook page, he frequently made pro-Trump posts and posted videos from Trump’s “Million MAGA March” on November 14.

Tropical Storm Henri expected to strengthen into hurricane; potentially impacting northeast and New England coast

Tropical Storm Henri is forecast to become a hurricane by Friday. The National Hurricane Center (“NHC”) said Henri had maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and was moving west at 10 mph as of Thursday night.

Henri is expected to speed up before taking a turn toward north; the storm is now on a track to possibly make landfall somewhere along the New England coast as early as Sunday night, potentially affecting the northeast from Long Island, NY to Cape Cod, MA.  The NHC said:  “Henri is forecast to be near the northeast coast of the U.S. on Sunday and Monday, and the risks of storm surge, wind and rain impacts in portions of southern New England and eastern Long Island, [N.Y.], are increasing. Watches will likely be required for portions of this area early Friday.”

As of the National Hurricane Center’s latest complete update, Henri was about 800 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts, with maximum sustained winds near 70 mph and higher gusts expected to extend up to 90 miles from the center.  The storm is still expected to impact the coast, creating dangerous rip currents, rough surf and beach erosion.

Antonio Brown kicked out of Buccaneers practice after fight with Titans’ Chris Jackson

According to multiple reports, Tampa Bay receiver Antonio Brown was kicked out of the Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans joint practice on Thursday after he got into an altercation with Titans cornerback Chris Jackson. Brown was complaining that he was being held by Jackson before ripping his helmet off and throwing several punches before the two were separated. After taking some time to collect himself, Brown returned to practice.

Brown’s altercation was just one of several to occur between the teams; there were reportedly four additional fights throughout practice. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians downplayed the multiple fights and just shook his head when asked about Brown, while Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said: “Our job is to perform football plays. Regardless of whether there are sidebars or altercations. I get it. It’s hot out there. Guys are competing and trying to finish. Those things come up.”

Brown re-signed with the Buccaneers in April after joining the team in October of last year. He played in eight regular-season games and caught 45 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns. Brown also played in three postseason games, including the Super Bowl, and caught eight passes for 81 yards and one touchdown.

However, Brown’s legal woes persist; at the start of 2021, he had to pay Britney Taylor $100,000 for allegedly violating a confidentiality agreement. Taylor sued Brown in 2019 for allegedly sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions—including rape in 2018, and Taylor claimed that Brown violated their confidentiality agreement by going on a tirade on social media directed at her.
