Stone Temple Pilots and Bush cancel US tour due to “COVID-Related Circumstances”

Stone Temple Pilots and Bush have canceled their upcoming co-headlining US tour, which was set to kick off on September 30th and run through October 16th. Bush cited “unfortunate and unavoidable COVID-related circumstances” as the reason for the cancellation; however, STP are still moving forward with their own headlining shows later in the fall. In separate statements from each band, it was made clear that it was Bush’s decision to cancel the tour.

Bush’s full statement reads: “Due to unfortunate and unavoidable COVID-related circumstances, we will be unable to move forward with our planned Fall tour dates — including our festival appearances and our tour with Stone Temple Pilots. We cannot stress enough how heartbreaking it is to not be able to go out and play after all of this time, and after all of our attempted starts and ensuing stops over the past year and a half. We wish to extend our deepest apologies as this is the last thing we would want for all our great fans as well as our good friends in Stone Temple Pilots.⁣”

Stone Temple Pilots solo tour dates are still a go; their statement read: “STP friends and family, unfortunately Bush has had to cancel their upcoming tour with us that was to start at the end of this month. … We are of course saddened by this news, but it’s a sign of the times right now. That said, our headline dates starting on October 17th are still on! The only headline date that is being canceled is Oct 9th in Chattanooga, as that was during the Bush run and can no longer fit with the schedule. We’d love to see you all out there for the below dates, and we’re so very much looking forward to coming back to all canceled markets as soon as we can.⁣”

Stone Temple Pilots’ tour dates can be seen below, with tickets available via Ticketmaster.

FBI releases declassified document into Saudi links to 9/11

On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the FBI released a newly declassified document about the 9/11 attacks Saturday, which reveals details about the logistical support given to two of the Saudi hijackers in the lead-up to the terrorist operation. The 16-page document is the first investigative record to be shared since President Joe Biden ordered a declassification review of files about 9/11 last week.

The heavily redacted document provides a summary of an FBI interview in 2015 with a man who had regular contact with Saudi nationals in the U.S. The man aided Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar, the first hijackers to arrive in the U.S., once they arrived in the country. It also details contacts the hijackers had with Saudi associates in the U.S,; however, it does not provide evidence that senior Saudi government officials were complicit in the attacks.

The document was released shortly after Biden marked the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks; victims’ families issued a statement last month saying Biden would not be welcome at any memorial events as long as the documents remained classified. Biden has ordered the Justice Department and other agencies to review which documents can be declassified over the next six months.

Before the document was released, the Saudi Embassy in Washington said in a statement Thursday that it welcomed the full declassification of records to “end the baseless allegations against the Kingdom once and for all.” It added that any suggestion that Saudi Arabia was complicit in the attacks was “categorically false.”

4 injured after explosion at apartment complex near Atlanta

Authorities said that four people were injured after an explosion at an apartment complex in an Atlanta suburb Sunday afternoon. The Dunwoody, Georgia police department received a call at 1:24 p.m. about the explosion at the Arrive Apartments, a luxury apartment approximately 15 miles north of downtown Atlanta. At least 15 to 20 units of the three-story building were damaged in the blast, Dunwoody Deputy Fire Chief Melvin Carter told reporters at a news conference Sunday afternoon. Jaeson Daniels with DeKalb County Fire Rescue confirmed that four people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department completed its search and evacuation of the building and confirmed no one is trapped, the department said in a statement on Facebook on Sunday night. The structure was stabilized after rescue teams shored up the parts of the building that were structurally unsound so they could be searched, the fire department said.

According to the Dunwoody Fire Department, a leasing manager called Atlanta Gas prior to the explosion about a reported gas order, but the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

LA Dodgers pitcher Max Scherzer earns 3,000th career strikeout

Max Scherzer of the Los Angeles Dodgers has become the 19th player in major league history with 3,000 strikeouts. The 37-year-old right-hander struckout Eric Hosmer of the San Diego Padres in the fifth inning at Dodger Stadium to earn number 3,000, bringing the crowd to its feet to give the three-time Cy Young Award winner a standing ovation.

Scherzer came into the game needing six strikeouts to reach 3,000. He struckout Trent Grisham in the first inning, struck out the side on nine pitches in the second, and ended with strikouts of Fernando Tatis Jr., Eric Hosmer and Tommy Pham, who all went down swinging. It took Scherzer 404 games to reach the mark, second fewest in history behind Hall of Famer Randy Johnson at 362 games. He’s also the first to reach 3,000 Ks in a Dodgers uniform. Scherzer is also 13 strikeouts from catching up to Houston’s Justin Verlander, who holds the most strikouts among active players. Verlander is missing the entire 2021 season following Tommy John surgery.

Scherzer currently holds a 13-4 record, and his 2.28 ERA was second in the National League behind Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes entering Sunday. He is on a nine-game winning streak and hasn’t lost a game since May 30 against Milwaukee.
