NY Mets place acting GM Zack Scott on administrative leave after DWI arrest

The NY Mets announced on Thursday that they have placed acting general manager Zack Scott on administrative leave until further notice. On Wednesday, Scott was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was found sleeping in his car early Tuesday morning in White Plains, New York.  On Thursday morning, Scott pleaded not guilty to his DWI charge and three other charges, including for stopping on a highway; disobeying a traffic control device and failing to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of a change in address. His driving privileges in New York state were also suspended amid the investigation.

Team president Sandy Alderson will be assuming Scott’s responsibilities during his absence. Scott joined the Mets organization in December after spending 17 seasons with the Red Sox, and was initially hired to be the team’s senior vice president and assistant general manager.  He was promoted to acting general manager after the team fired first-year general manager Jared Porter in January for sending multiple explicit and unsolicited images to a female reporter in 2016.

Podcast host Joe Rogan reveals he has COVID-19 and taking Ivermectin to treat symptoms

Podcast host Joe Rogan has contracted COVID-19. The 54-year-old host of “The Joe Rogan Experience” shared the news that he’d become ill over the weekend and tested positive for the virus, requiring him to postpone a comedy show in Nashville set for Friday.

Rogan said in a video on Instagram: “So, I got back from the road Saturday night feeling very weary, and I had a headache. I just felt run down. Just to be cautious, I separated from my family, slept in a different part of the house.” Rogan then began experiencing fevers and other severe symptoms, prompting him to get tested. After he received the positive diagnosis, his doctors “immediately threw the kitchen sink at it” with several different medications, including the controversial Ivermectin. (Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug used for livestock like horses and cows, which the Food and Drug Administration has strongly advised Americans against using to treat COVID-19.) Rogan told his followers in his video Wednesday that he had also used monoclonal antibody infusion therapy, vitamin drips, and azithromycin as treatment.

Rogan has been outspoken about the Covid-19 vaccination, and on his podcast he has criticized COVID-19 vaccination cards and vaccination mandates that have been put in place across the country. According to Rogan, institutions are implementing these requirements “because they’re dumb.mThey don’t understand history, they don’t understand human beings, they don’t understand human nature,” he said. “They don’t understand the history of every single country that’s ever existed other than the United States.”

Charli XCX shares the music video for her new song “Good Ones”

Charli XCX has released the music video for her new single, “Good Ones.”

The British-born singer said in a press release: “Today, I, the inimitable Charli XCX, am releasing a brand new single ‘Good Ones’, accompanied by a twisted, dramatic and quite frankly electrifying music video. The first single of my new chapter embraces all that my life has to offer in today’s world – fame, glamour, inner demons, and global hits. ‘Good Ones’ was produced by Oscar Holter of Max Martin’s Wolf Cousins entity, and laments my inability to keep hold of healthy relationships, instead being endlessly drawn back to the dysfunctional and toxic. Filmed in Mexico and co-directed by my new favorite director: Hannah Lux Davis, the ‘Good Ones’ video sees me dramatically mourning the untimely loss of my partner as I battle with the realization that once again I’ve abandoned the goodness in my life, in favor of the sinister, with a visual aesthetic that marks a new era of me: Charli XCX.”

Take a look at Charli’s new video for ‘Good Ones” at the link – here.

Eight dead as New York City, New Jersey experience historic, mass flooding due to remnants of Hurricane Ida

New York City and New Jersey was slammed with heavy rain overnight and into Thursday morning, causing historic, mass flooding due to the remnants of hurricane Ida earlier. The storm hit the Northeast as a post-tropical cyclone on Wednesday after making landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane on Sunday. The historic rain halted subway service and destroyed homes in New Jersey. At least eight deaths were reported from the flooding, seven in New York City and one in Passaic, N.J.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Passaic, NJ Mayor Hector Lora all issued states of emergency as the National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for New York and southern New England. “We’re enduring an historic weather event tonight with record breaking rain across the city, brutal flooding and dangerous conditions on our roads,” de Blasio said via Twitter. “Please stay off the streets tonight and let our first responders and emergency services get their work done.” He urged New Yorkers not to drive and stay off subway trains, and videos showed subways and streets flooded.

Early Thursday, the city’s official emergency notification system issued a travel ban until 5 a.m., stating “all non-emergency vehicles must be off NYC streets and highways.” The Metropolitan Transportation Authority told residents that they “strongly recommended” the public avoid traveling.
