Netflix releases full trailer for Britney Spears documentary “Britney vs. Spears”

Netflix has released a trailer for its upcoming Britney Spears documentary, “Britney vs. Spears”, which will debut on Netflix on Sept. 28.  In the trailer, Spears’ voice is heard from an audio recording from her June 23 testimony at the Los Angeles Superior Courthouse, where she addressed the court for the first time publicly, telling the judge that she is traumatized and pleading, “I just want my life back. I’ve worked my whole life. I don’t owe these people anything.”

The Netflix project, directed by filmmaker Erin Lee Carr, has been in the works for over a year. The Netflix documentary is not the first on Spears’ life; The New York Times produced a doc for Hulu and FX titled “Framing Britney Spears,” which took a look at the conservatorship case, the #FreeBritney movement and the misogynistic media narrative that has framed the pop star throughout her entire career in the spotlight. That doc was nominated for two Emmy awards.

Check out the trailer for Netflix’s “Britney vs. Spears” – here.

Democrats introduce bill to keep the federal government running and suspend the debt ceiling

House Democrats on the Appropriations Committee introduced a bill Tuesday to keep the federal government running and suspend the debt ceiling past the 2022 midterms. Democratic leaders warned they will insert a measure raising the country’s debt ceiling into a bill to fund government operations in an effort to push Republicans on passing both, but Republicans are holding firm against the measure. Republicans are using the issues to protest the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion spending package being considered in the House and Senate. The Democrats are trying to use the budget resolution process to get around Republican opposition. Ten Republicans would have to join Democrats for the bill to pass in the Senate.

Committee Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro said in a statement:  “As our nation continues to face the COVID-19 pandemic and other serious challenges, the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act meets the continuing needs of people who live paycheck to paycheck. It is critical that Congress swiftly pass this legislation to support vital education, health, housing and public safety programs and provide emergency help for disaster survivors and Afghan evacuees.”

The federal government will cease funding after Sept. 30 unless the House and Senate act to end the standoff leading to a partial government shutdown.

President Biden urges unity to end COVID-19, expresses hope to avoid ‘new Cold War’ during his address at United Nations General Assembly

In his first address to the United Nations, President Joe Biden has urged global unity through “a decisive decade for our world”. Reaffirming his support for democracy and diplomacy, Mr Biden said: “We must work together like never before.”

At a gathering of the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York City, Biden addressed climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, both of which have sharpened global divides. Mr Biden urged cooperation on these fronts, saying: “Whether we choose to fight for our shared future or not will reverberate for generations to come. Simply put, we stand, in my view, at an inflection point in history.”

President Biden also stressed that the U.S. is “not seeking a new Cold War or a world divided into rigid blocs,” adding that the U.S. “is ready to work with any nation that steps up and pursues peaceful resolution to shared challenges, even if we have intense disagreements in other areas.”

And despite the widespread criticism by allies on the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan, Biden said the US was ending a “period of relentless war” for a “new era of relentless diplomacy”.

One person injured in roof fire at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome

Caesars Superdome, the home of the New Orleans Saints, caught fire on Tuesday afternoon. At 12:40 CT, fire and smoke began emanating from the roof of the Superdome; the New Orleans Fire Department responded to the three-alarm fire at the Superdome shortly after. Local officials said workers were power washing the roof this week to prepare it for painting and workers have also been in the process of switching the Superdome’s exterior logo from its old sponsor, Mercedes Benz, to its new one, Caesars. New Orleans Emergency Management Services said on Twitter that it was transporting one person to the hospital for minor burns.

ASM Global VP of stadiums Doug Thornton said that the fire occurred in a section of Superdome roofing called the “gutter tub.” Thornton told the newspaper that they were assessing the damage but so far it did not appear that the structural integrity of venue had been compromised.

The Saints next home game at the Superdome is scheduled for Oct. 3 vs. the New York Giants. The team’s final preseason home game on Aug. 28 was canceled due to impending Hurricane Ida, forcing the Saints to play their season-opener against the Green Bay Packers in Jacksonville. Since the hurricane, the team has been practicing in the Dallas area.
