Testament, Exodus and Death Angel tour dates postponed until 2022

The Bay Strikes Back Tour, featuring Testament, Exodus and Death Angel, has been postponed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The trek was set to kick off next week in on Oct. 6 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. and end in late November.

Testament guitarist Eric Peterson said in a press release:  “We were really on the fence with this decision. But seeing other bands make it through with a few mild cases and other bigger bands just cancelling their entire tours, we felt it is in our best interest to postpone these shows to ’22.”  Alex Skolnick added:  “It gives none of us any pleasure to be the bearers of bad news yet again, but here we are. Although Bay Strikes Back is a top tour package for theaters, the reality is this: It can’t afford to take the risks that top grossing larger venue tours have been taking. The type of disruptions KISS and other large outdoor venue tours have experienced could cause our shows to be permanently cancelled – a lose/lose for everyone.”

All three bands will still play Aftershock Festival‘s Thursday night kickoff on Oct. 7 in Sacramento, Calif., and also their November 27 hometown show in Oakland, California.

1 DEA agent killed, 2 law enforcement officers injured during shooting on Amtrak train in Tucson

One DEA agent was killed and two other law enforcement officers were injured in a shooting on an Amtrak train at a station Monday morning in Tucson, Arizona. , Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus said Monday that members of a regional narcotics “alliance” of local and federal authorities were conducting a routine check on a stationary train when a man opened fire. Authorities were detaining another man on the train’s upper deck when the shooter pulled out a handgun. Magnus said: “The suspect, after exchanging rounds with the officers, barricaded himself in the bathroom, which is on the lower level. … Ultimately it was determined that the suspect in the bathroom was, in fact, deceased.” The man who was detained remains in custody; authorities have identified no other suspects.

Cheri Oz, special agent in charge of the DEA’s Phoenix division, confirmed that one Drug Enforcement Administration agent was killed in the exchange, said another agent was in critical condition. A Tucson police officer who rushed to help after hearing shots was stable.

Amtrak said in a statement that the “shooting incident” on the train from Los Angeles occurred at about 7:40 a.m. local time. None of the 137 passengers and 11 crew members, who all evacuated into the station, were reported to have been injured.

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp are back up and running after service was knocked out for hours

Facebook said its platform, along with Instagram and WhatsApp, were coming back online after a massive outage on Monday knocked out service to all three social media giants and took the sites offline for users across the world. All three platforms — owned and operated by Facebook Inc. based in Menlo Park, California — went out of service at 11:39 a.m. ET.  At approcimately 6 p.m. ET, all three platforms reported that some service had been restored, but full functionality may remain erratic well into Monday evening. Facebook issued a statement at around 6:30 p.m. ET apologizing for the outage and said that its apps and services were being restored.  Facebook said on Twitter: “To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry. We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us.”

Earlier on Monday, Mike Schroepfer, chief technology officer at Facebook, went on Twitter just before 4 p.m. ET to offer his “sincere apologies to everyone impacted by outages of Facebook powered services right now. We are experiencing networking issues and teams are working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible.” WhatsApp tweeted: “We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!” And Instagram took to Twitter and posted the hashtag #instagramdown with the message: “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! “

The company has not fully explained what caused the over six hour outage, only blaming “networking issues.” The outage comes a day after Facebook faced allegations from a whistleblower that it had turned a blind eye to disinformation that led to the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Jaguars coach Urban Meyer apologizes to team and family after video of him at Ohio bar goes viral

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer apologized to the team and his family on Monday for video footage and photos that went viral on Sunday that appeared to show a woman dancing alongside the former Ohio State coach at a Columbus, Ohio-area bar.  Meyer said in a Monday press conference:  “I just apologized to the team and the staff for being a distraction. It was stupid. So I explained everything that happened and owned it. It was stupid to…I should not have myself in that kind of position.”

Meyer said that he originally stayed back in Ohio to see his grandkids following Thursday’s 24-21 loss to the Bengals in Cincinnati, and that the incident occurred while at dinner one night as a nearby group asked to take a picture with him.  Said Meyer: “I stayed to see the grandkids and we all went to dinner that night at a restaurant There was a big group next to [us] and they wanted me to come over and take pictures and I did. They were trying to pull me out on the dance floor screwing around and I should have left.”

Despite the distraction caused by the video, Meyer said the team will be focused as pressure increases with Jacksonville currently on a 19-game losing streak.  The Jaguars will head to Tennessee next weekend to face the Titans, seeking their first win of the season.

NY Mets and manager Luis Rojas part ways; will not return in 2022

The NY Mets announced Monday that Mets manager Luis Rojas will not return next season after the team declined his contract option for 2022. Rojas was offered a position to remain with the team that has yet to be determined; it is unclear whether he will choose to accept the new role as of press time.

Rojas said in the release: “I want to share such heartfelt gratitude to so many in the Mets organization for not only the last two seasons as manager, but for the last 16 years in a variety of roles. In each and every position I held, striving for excellence was our daily mission. I will always hold the relationships and friendships, developed over the years, dear to my heart, and am forever grateful to have been able to wear the Mets uniform for so long. We live in a results-oriented business, and am deeply disappointed for our staff and fans that we didn’t reach our goals this season.”

Rojas was promoted to manager in 2020 after holding various roles in the Mets organization over the years. This season was a disappointing campaign for a team that had high expectations but ultimately missed the playoffs with a 77–85 record. Rojas was the third manager for the Mets over the last four seasons.
