Outfielder Travis Snider retires from pro baseball after 8 years in the major leagues

After 15 years, 630 MLB games, and stints with three different big-league teams, MLB outfielder Travis Snider announced his retirement from professional baseball on Thursday.

Snider wrote in an Instagram post: “I have contemplated this day for a while but the time has finally come for me to hang up the spikes,” adding, “It is a beautiful struggle sharing a clubhouse with 30 other dudes going to battle 100+ times a year. I will miss that the most. But I am looking forward to being a more present husband, father, family member, and friend.”

The 33-year-old Snider broke into the big leagues in 2008 with the Blue Jays. Snider played parts of five seasons for the Jays before he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Brad Lincoln at the 2012 trade deadline. Snider would then go on to play in eight different MLB organizations

Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard undergoes successful surgery for abdominal injury

The Portland Trail Blazers announced that star guard Damian Lillard underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair an abdominal injury, adding that Lillard will be re-evaluated in six weeks. The team announced last week that Lillard would miss games against Miami, Cleveland and Sacramento as he received evaluation and consultation regarding the abdomen injury. Lillard did not travel with Portland on its current six-game road trip.

The 31-year-old Lillard first missed a game due to the injury on Nov. 14 and was sidelined from Dec. 1-12 because of it.  He received a cortisone shot for the injury in December to help mitigate the pain, with the team officially calling it lower abdominal tendinopathy. Lillard has dealt with an abdominal injury in the past, saying that he has played the last three seasons with the same type of discomfort.

Lillard is averaging 24 points, 7.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game this season. Portland currently sits in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 16-24 record.

“The Real’s” Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Jeezy welcome their 1st child together

“The Real” co-host Jeannie Mai Jenkins and her husband, rapper Jeezy (real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins), have welcomed their first child together.  Jenkins, 43, wrote on Instagram: “I asked God for a life of love and happiness. He sent me my family. Baby Jenkins is here.”  She also shared a photo of the newborn’s hospital bassinet containing a swaddle blanket and a name card that reads “Jenkins” but did not disclose the child’s name or sex.

Jenkins and Jeezy, 44, tied the knot in March of last year, and shortly after their wedding, Jenkins experienced a miscarriage. Said Mai Jenkins: “I wondered if I was being punished. I wondered if I’d jinxed myself or cursed myself. My entire life, I never wanted children. When I say never, I’m talking a hard-stop.” Jenkins had a change of heart about having children of her own after she began dating Jeezy in 2018. He has three children from previous relationships.

Trivium vocalist/guitarist teams up with Testament frontman for new song

Trivium vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy has teamed up with Testament frontman Chuck Billy for the brand new single called “Behold Our Power.” The song was created and released a theme for the upcoming Mythic Festival that will be taking place on June 2nd through 4th at the Gdansk Shipyard in Gdansk, Poland.

Heafy says of the song: “Having had the privilege of playing the incredible Mystic Fest, I knew exactly what the theme of this festival needed to be. Mystic Festival’s energy is electric; its fans some of the best on the planet; its lineup uncanny; and the venue/ backstage/ food/ drinks… everything is perfect. Mystic took incredible care of Trivium and I – so it was easy to craft this behemoth of a song for Mystic. It is our pleasure to present ‘Behold Our Power’ for Mystic Festival.”

The festival will be headlined by Opeth, Judas Priest, and Mercyful Fate and will also feature performance from Killing Joke, Mastodon, Heilung, Saxon Katatonia, Mayhem, Mgła, Solstafir, Igorrr, Obituary, Baroness, Vader and Kvelertak.
