Chairman says former Attorney General William Barr has spoken to January 6 committee

The Chairman of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol said on Sunday that the panel has spoken with former U.S. Attorney General William Barr.

The Chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., told CBS News’ Face the Nation that the committee had spoken to Barr and Department of Defense officials about reports that former President Donald Trump had been presented a draft of an executive order directing the defense secretary to seize voting machines in battleground states in December 2020. Said Thompson:  “To be honest with you, we’ve had conversations with the former attorney general already. We have talked to Department of Defense individuals. We are concerned that our military was part of this big lie on promoting that the election was false. So, if you are using the military to potentially seize voting machines, even though it’s a discussion, the public needs to know, we’ve never had that before.”

Thompson also said on Sunday that the committee was “in the process of reviewing” 700 pages of Trump administration documents that were handed to the panel after the Supreme Court ruled to deny Trump’s request to block their release.  He said:  “We’ll see if that information leads us to additional individuals to make requests. But it’s so significant to our investigation to have the documents and executive privilege and other things obviously had no bearing and we’re just happy for the Supreme Court decision. We’ll look forward to reviewing it and based on the review, we’ll take next steps.”   Thompson added the committee still expected to hold public hearings for its investigation in the spring: “We are reviewing thousands of pages of documents, hundreds of witnesses,” he said. “It’s taken a good bit of time for the committee to put together. And hearings at this point, we expect to be sometime in the spring.”

NFL Division Round Series: Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 42-36 in OT

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Bills 42-36 in overtime to advance to the AFC Championship for the fourth consecutive season — something that has never been accomplished before in the conference’s 51-year history.

With the Bills holding onto a 36-33 lead with only 13 seconds remaining, the Chiefs were able to pick up 19 yards on a quick pass to Tyreek Hill, leaving eight seconds on the clock. Travis Kelce caught the next pass and with three seconds remaining, Harrison Butker nailed a 48-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.

The Chiefs won the coin toss and began the first drive of overtime at their own 25-yard line. Mahomes completed a 10 yard pass to Kelce on third-and-1, and a pass to Jerrick McKinnon took the ball inside the Bills’ 40-yard line. A catch-and-run by Mecole Hardman gave the Chiefs first-and-goal at the Bills’ 7-yard line. Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce for an 8-yard touchdown to end the game in OT, winning with a score of 42-36.

Next up: The Chiefs will host the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship, at 3 p.m. ET Jan. 30 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Los Angeles Rams defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-27 in the NFC Divisional Round

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Buccaneers on Sunday 30-27 in the NFC Divisional Round at Tampa Bay, and will now host the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game next week.

After leading for most of the game, the Rams allowed a fourth quarter comeback by Rams QB Tom Brady and the Bucs. Tampa Bay scored 24 unanswered points, tying the game with less than a minute left, before the Rams kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired.

Los Angeles’ win vs. the Bucs is the second time they defeated Tampa Bay this season, and sends the Bucs home for what could very well be the final game of Brady’s NFL career.

In a video posted on social media last week, Adele cited cases of COVID-19 among her team, and other issues related to the pandemic, as the reason for the postponement.  Adele said that all Weekends With Adele shows that were set to open at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace would be rescheduled.
