Joe Jonas posts TikTok with snippet of new music; shares news of DNCE comeback

Joe Jonas is teasing new music.  The 32-year-old Jonas Brother took to TikTok to tease a “new era” of music involving “many different” projects. In the short video, he also teases a snippet of a new song, though it is unclear whether it’s a possible DNCE reunion, or a solo project.

The caption on the TikTok reads: “It’s go time…There’s so many different projects in the works that I can’t wait to start to tell you about. I’ve had such an amazing holiday break spending time with family and friends and now I’m ready to get back to it. My goal for the next few months is to get you up on your feet dancing and make you move,  New music. New vibes. New flavors. New collaborators. All of this on the way and will be here….soon. New era incoming….let’s get it.”

Jonas recently did an interview with Rolling Stone where he announced his group DNCE would be making a comeback. Joe formed DNCE in 2015 with drummer Jack Lawless and guitarist JinJoo Lee while the Jonas Brothers were on a break; bassist Cole Whittle rounded out the quartet.  Shortly after Joe posted his TikTok, the DNCE Instagram account posted new artwork to its grid and updated its bio to read: “WE’RE BACK TO MAKE YOU MOVE.”

‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ from Disney’s Encanto makes history, spends second week at No. 1

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s “Encanto” made history by becoming just the second song from a Disney animated movie to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart (following “A Whole New World” from Aladdin). Now “Bruno” is once again making history as it spends a second week at No. 1  — the track is now the first song from an animated Disney movie to spend multiple weeks at No. 1.

“Bruno” and the Encanto soundtrack are now the first soundtrack song and album to simultaneously top their respective charts for multiple weeks since Eminem “Lose Yourself” and the 8 Mile soundtrack in 2003. Additionally, “Colombia, Mi Encanto” debuts on the chart at No. 100, making it the eighth song from Encanto to appear on the chart. “Surface Pressure,” the second-biggest hit from the movie, also rose to No. 8 this week.

Bicyclist falls to her death from rising Florida drawbridge in Palm Beach, Florida

Officials confirm that a bicyclist fell to her death when a drawbridge connecting Palm Beach to the Florida mainland began rising before she could reach the other side. The woman was walking her bicycle toward West Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon and was within 10 feet (3 meters) of the barrier arms that halt traffic when the drawbridge started to move, police told news outlets. A bystander tried to pull her to safety but lost his grip. The woman’s name has not been released; the bridge was closed for more than six hours after the accident.

West Palm Beach police spokesperson Mike Jachles said: “The woman tried to hang on. There was a bystander nearby who tried to help her, but tragically she fell five or six stories below where she died landing on concrete.”  The Florida Department of Transportation maintains the bridge, but the bridge tenders are staffed by a private state contractor.  Why the bridge tender began raising the span before it was cleared of pedestrians will be a focus of the investigation, Jachles said.

The bridge is equipped with bells and whistles to alert drivers and pedestrians that the drawbridge is going up. Bicycle safety advocate Juan Orellana said: “Palm Beach is accessible only through three bridges and this is the main bridge, so it’s very used by cyclists. For one thing you will hear the bell before the arms go down, so when you hear the bell you gotta get out of the way before the bridge goes up.”

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara arrested on battery charge

The Las Vegas Metro Police Department announced that New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl running back Alvin Kamara was arrested over the weekend in Las Vegas and charged with battery resulting in substantial bodily harm.

Police announced Kamara’s arrested in a news release (which can be read in full here), noting that officers were dispatched Saturday to a local hospital where a person was reporting battery. The victim said that the incident happened at a nightclub on the 3500 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. Police investigators determined the victim was battered by Kamara. They located Kamara on Sunday, took him into custody without incident and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center.  Kamara posted $5,000 bail and was released. He has a March 8 court date on a charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm; a conviction on the charge could result in a sentence of one to five years in state prison.

The 26-year-old Kamara has earned Pro Bowl selections in each of his five NFL seasons; he made four catches for 23 yards in the 2022 Pro Bowl on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nev, where the AFC team beat the NFC team 41-35 in the annual NFL all-star game.  Kamara signed a five-year, $75 million contract extension with the Saints in 2020; the contract runs through 2025, but features a potential opt-out before the 2024 season. During the 2021-22 season, Kamara totaled 1,337 yards from scrimmage and nine scores in 13 games.

U.S. figure skater Vincent Zhou announces withdrawal from Olympics after second positive COVID-19 test

U.S. Olympic figure skater Vincent Zhou announced on Monday that he has to withdraw from the Winter Games’ men’s singles competition after a second positive COVID-19 test Sunday. Zhou, a two-time Olympian, was expected to compete alongside six-time U.S. champion Nathan Chen and two-time reigning Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu.

In an emotional Instagram post on Monday, the 21-year-old Zhou said, “Unfortunately, I will have to withdraw from the individual event. I have been doing everything in my power to stay free of COVID since the start of the pandemic. I’ve taken all the precautions I can. I isolated myself so much that the loneliness I felt in the last month or two has been crushing at times. ”  The announcement came hours after earning the Olympic team event silver medal.  On Sunday morning Beijing time, Zhou skated the long program for the United States, placing third of five skaters. The Americans won the silver medal Monday behind Russia.

This was Zhou’s second Olympics; back in 2018, he finished in sixth place.
