NYC Mayor Eric Adams speaks out on the city’s vaccine mandate and how it affects the NBA, MLB

New York City mayor Eric Adams addressed the city’s current COVID-19 vaccination mandate during a news conference on Tuesday, and stated that professional sports teams are going to have to wait for restrictions to ease.  Adams said: “Right now, we’re going to take some complaints. But when this is all said and done, people are going to realize this is a thoughtful administration and we got it right. So baseball, basketball, businesses, all of those things, they have to wait until that layer comes.”

Due to the private employer mandate currently in place in New York City, unvaccinated professional athletes in NYC are not allowed to compete in home games — meaning the mandate applies to the Nets, Knicks, Mets and Yankees.  Notably, Brooklyn point guard Kyrie Irving has repeatedly stated he will not be getting the vaccine; and as a result, had only been allowed to compete in away games for the Nets.  As MLB’s Opening Day and the NBA postseason approach, unvaccinated athletes are at risk of being limited in play time.  The Yankees’ home opener is April 7 and the Mets’ home opener is April 15, and the NBA play-in tournament starts April 12 with the playoffs set to start April 16.

Adams says he doesn’t “feel any pressure doing this job at all, because I’m going to do what’s right. We’re going to do it in the right way. We’re going to follow the science … we’re going to make the right decision. And in New York, no matter what you do, this is 8.8 million people and 30 million opinions, so you’re never going to satisfy New Yorkers, so you must go with the logic, your heart and the science.”

Dave Grohl sets release date for metal EP ‘Dream Widow’

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl will digitally release his new metal EP, recorded under the moniker Dream Widow, on March 25.

Dream Widow is connected to the Foo Fighters’ recently issued horror-comedy film, Studio 666.  In the flick, Grohl and company rent a Los Angeles mansion to record their 10th album, only to discover the space is haunted — it turns out that twenty-five years before, the metal group Dream Widow worked there for an ill-fated project, their singer becoming possessed and murdering his bandmates.

The Dream Widow EP features the recently released “March of the Insane,” which is part of the project Dream Widow were recording in the film.  Grohl told Variety that he recorded the Dream Widow EP on his own. saying: “When we started writing the script, we had the idea of there being this epic metal opus that — once completed — would release the demon in the house. I said, ‘Oh, f**k, I’ve got a million riffs.’ So I recorded this 13- or 14-minute long instrumental just by myself that’s very metal, and it’s meant to be from the [fictional] band Dream Widow. Then, I furthered that idea by making a whole record by Dream Widow that would be their lost album that they recorded before they were murdered.”

Ex-wife of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Eric Greitens accuses him of domestic violence

Eric Greitens, Missouri’s former governor and current Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, has been accused by his ex-wife Sheena Greitens of allegedly being physically abusive and “unstable,” according to court records filed on Monday.

Sheena Greitens and Eric Greitens have been part of an ongoing child custody battle. Their divorce was finalized in May 2020 and a county court decision said the marriage was “irretrievably broken” and that a joint parenting plan is “in [the] best interest of minor children.” However, Eric Greitens has since said he wants full custody of their two children.

Greitens’ campaign said that the affidavit is part of a “politically-motivated attack.  His children deserve a father who will speak the truth and stand up against malicious attacks that are clearly politically motivated. This attack is nothing more than a sad attempt to force a father to yield custody of his children to a deranged individual.”  In a statement, Eric Greitens said: “I will continue to love and care for my beautiful sons with all of my being, and that includes fighting for the truth and against completely fabricated, baseless allegations. I am seeking full custody of my sons, and for their sake, I will continue to pray for their mother and hope that she gets the help that she needs,” adding that “ultimately truth will always prevail.”

Greitens served just over one year as Missouri’s governor before he resigned in 2018 after allegations of sexual misconduct and blackmail for allegedly taking a picture of his former hairdresser with whom he was having an affair, as well as an ethics investigation and a computer data tampering criminal charge. Greitens admitted to the affair and called it consensual, but denied taking the photograph and the blackmail accusation. Prosecutors dropped an invasion of privacy charge related to the alleged incident in May 2018.

Eric Greitens is looking to succeed retiring Republican Senator Roy Blunt in his bid for U.S. Senate. Also in the field are Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, Representatives Billy Long and Vicky Hartzler. Hartzler, Schmitt, Long and Lucas Kunce, a Marine and Democratic candidate in the race, have called for Greitens to drop out of the U.S. Senate race.

The deadline for candidates to file for the Missouri primary is March 29, 2022; the primary is slated to be held August 2.
