Pink Floyd release new song ‘Hey Hey Rise Up’ for Ukraine

Pink Floyd have released a new song in support of the people of Ukraine titled “Hey Hey Rise Up.”  “Hey Hey Rise Up” marks the first new original music Pink Floyd have recorded together since their 1994 album The Division Bell.

“Hey Hey Rise Up” features David Gilmour and Nick Mason, as well as bassist Guy Pratt and keyboardist Nitin Sawhney. Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band ‘Boombox’ contributes vocals. The band recorded the song on March 30 and pulled Khlyvnyuk’s vocals from an Instagram post of him singing in Kyiv’s Sofiyskaya Square.  The song title is inspired by the lyrics to “The Red Viburnum in the Meadow,” a Ukrainian protest song written during World War I, which Khlyvnyuk was singing in the video. The last line of the song translates to “Hey, hey, rise up and rejoice.”

Avril Lavigne announces engagement to Mod Sun after one year together

Avril Lavigne announced she is engaged to fellow singer Mod Sun. Lavigne, 37, and Mod Sun, 35 (real name Derek Ryan Smith), met in 2020 while working on music together, and began dating that November. Mod Sun co-wrote and co-produced tracks for Avril’s new album, Love Sux, and she’s featured on his single “Flames”, as well as co-starring with him in its music video.

The couple confirmed the engagement news on social media, with Lavigne captioning her Instagram post: Oui! Je t’aime pour toujours 🤍💍🥂Dimanche. 27. Mars. 2022.” It appears the duo actually got engaged in late March during a trip to Paris.

Mod Sun wrote on his Instagram page, “The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done. I had a dream where I proposed in paris. I pulled out a ring + asked you to wear it. I was on one knee as I looked in your eyes. You’re too beautiful for my words to describe. I grabbed your hand + took one last breath…I said ‘will you marry me?’ + she said ‘yes’. I love you Avril.”

Prior to dating Mod Sun, Lavigne previously dated indie artist Pete Jonas, Brody Jenner and billionaire Phillip Sarofim, with whom she broke up in 2019 after more than a year. Lavigne was married to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley and Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger.

Father of student at Sarah Lawrence College in New York found guilty of abuse against other students

On Wednesday, a jury of 12 found Lawrence Ray guilty of 15 counts related to his decade-long reign of abuse over students at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. The 62-year-old Ray, who is the father of a daughter who attended the small Westchester County liberal arts college, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with a mandatory minimum of 15 years. Sentencing is set for Sept. 16.

Ray, an ex-convict, faced charges including sex trafficking, forced labor, tax evasion and racketeering. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan argued that Ray’s psychological abuse and physical torment of his victims started out by charming them, then by using his power over the victims to extort sex, money and other favors from them.  Ray posed as a ‘father figure’ to his daughter’s fellow students, and moved into his child’s on-campus dorm in 2010 following a prison stint for securities fraud. He shared the dorm with her male and female roommates, and the group later relocated to a one-bedroom Manhattan apartment.

Ray has maintained his innocence, claiming he was falsely accused of the crimes; however he did not testify at his trial.. Ray has been incarcerated in the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest in 2020.

House of Representatives holds two former Trump aides in contempt over Capitol attack probe

The U.S. House of Representatives approved “contempt of Congress” charges on Wednesday against two former aides to Donald Trump — Peter Navarro and Daniel Scavino — for failing to cooperate with the probe into the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Navarro, who was a top trade adviser to the former president, and Scavino, who was a deputy chief of staff, did not comply with subpoenas to appear before the House Select Committee probing the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. House members backed the charges against the two men with a 220-203 vote; it now refers the matter to the Department of Justice for a decision on whether to press criminal charges.

Scavino and Navarro have argued that their communications are protected by executive privilege, although many legal experts have said that principle does not apply to former presidents. Contempt of Congress bears a penalty of up to a year’s imprisonment and a fine up to $100,000.

The Democratic-led Select Committee has been investigating events leading to the Capitol attack by Trump supporters on Jan. 6, 2021, when Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers gathered to certify Democrat Biden’s victory in the November 2020 election.

Jimmie Allen announces third LP ‘Tulip Drive’ to drop this June

Jimmie Allen announced his third studio album, Tulip Drive, will drop on June 24. The lead single from the LP, “Down Home,” is available to stream now. The album’s title has a personal meaning for Allen; Tulip Drive is the name of the street his late grandmother grew up on. Similarly, Allen’s 2018 debut album Mercury Lane was named for the street Allen grew up on, and his 2020 and 2021 releases, Bettie James & Bettie James Gold Edition, were named for his grandmother (Bettie Snead) and father (James “Big Jim” Allen).’

Allen said of the upcoming LP: “This is the first album where a lot of the songs are actually written based off a lot of my own personal life experiences–from relationships, the hardships of life, to the parties and the good times. A lot of these songs are based off things I went through when I was in later in high school and college, at a place where I was just learning a lot of life lessons from my grandmother. I wanted to honor her by naming this album ‘Tulip Drive,’ after the street she lived on in Lewes, Delaware.”

Allen is also currently on the road with his “Down Home Tour.”  For a full list of upcoming tour stops, head here.
