Korn and Evanescence announce U.S. co-headlining tour

Korn and Evanescence have announced that they will be launching a co-headlining tour across the US this summer. Both bands teased the big news earlier this week on social media by posting the same cryptic video by Nate Hill.

The 18-city run — with soon-to-be-announced special guests — will kick-off on August 16 at Ball Arena in Denver, CO, making stops across the US in Boston, Chicago, Houston and more before wrapping up in Ridgefield, WA on September 16. Korn and Evanescence previously toured together back in 2007, on Korn’s Family Values Tour.

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis said: “We’re looking forward to going on tour this summer and bringing our friends, Evanescence, out. Whenever Amy comes to one of our shows, I always love seeing her on the side of the stage watching the whole set and rocking out. We’re gonna have a great time on this tour, and we can’t wait to see you there.”

Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee added, “I fell hard into Korn’s music in high school. It was an inspiration during the formation of my own band. The chances we’ve had to play together over the years are special, a part of our history. They remain one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. It’s an honor and a thrill to go out with our friends again, our first full tour together since ‘07. We’re all really looking forward to this.”

Tickets and VIP Packages go on sale starting Friday, April 8 at 10am local time – click here for more information.

Machine Gun Kelly’s ‘Mainstream Sellout’ debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Albums chart

Machine Gun Kelly’s “Mainstream Sellout” hit the top of the Billboard 200 Album chart, making it the first No. 1 rock album in more than a year.  Mainstream Sellout is Machine Gun Kelly’s second straight album to debut at No. 1, following 2020’s “Ticket to My Downfall.”  The last rock album to hit the No. 1 spot was AC/DC’s “Power Up” in December 2020.

Mainstream Sellout was one of two albums to debut in the top 10 this week, the other being Daddy Yankee’s “Legendaddy,” which came in at No. 8, and is being described as Daddy Yankee’s ‘farewell album.’  Billboard reports that “Legendaddy” is the highest-charting Latin album since December 2020.

The Nos. 2, 3 and 4 spots stayed the same from last week: Lil Durk, the “Encanto” soundtrack, and Morgan Wallen. Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour” re-entered the top 10 at No. 5, while The Weeknd’s greatest hits album and Drake stand at Nos. 6-7. Doja Cat and Gunna rounded out the top 10.

Kansas defeats UNC to win NCAA men’s national championship in biggest comeback in title game history

The Kansas Jayhawks rallied for a 72-69 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels in the NCAA men’s basketball National Championship Game on Monday night inside the Superdome in New Orleans.

Kansas overcame a 16-point deficit at halftime to capture its first NCAA Tournament title since 2008, pulling off the largest comeback in national championship history, surpassing the 1963 title game when Loyola battled back from a 15-point deficit to beat Cincinnati.

Kansas finished the regular season atop the Big 12 Conference standings. The Jayhawks also won the Big 12 tournament, defeating Texas Tech in the final. The Jayhawks, one of the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, won the Midwest Regional after defeating No. 10 Miami 76-50. Kansas became the all-time winningest Division I college basketball program after its Sweet 16 victory over Providence.

The victory gives Kansas its fourth national championship in program history. Jayhawks head coach Bill Self now has two NCAA Tournament titles, the first Kansas coach to have multiple titles.

Voting for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson ends in 11-11 deadlock

The vote to advance the nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court ended in deadlock on Monday, setting up a procedural vote on the Senate floor. The Senate judiciary committee voted 11-11 on whether to advance Jackson’s nomination to succeed retiring Justice Stephen Breyer on the high court with all of the Democrats on the panel voting in favor of President Joe Biden’s selection, while all 11 Republicans opposed.

Following the vote, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer moved to discharge the nomination of Jackson and send it to a vote by the full Senate, which will require 51 votes. In order for the measure to pass the evenly split Senate, the vote would have to receive the support of all Democrats in the chamber and at least one Republican.  Jackson’s confirmation is expected to receive the support of every Democrat in the full Senate.  Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine last week said that she will vote to confirm Jackson, and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., who has often sided with Republicans on various issues, has also said he’ll vote to confirm Jackson.

If confirmed, Jackson would assume her seat on the Supreme Court when Breyer retires after its current term ends in June. She is the first Black woman ever nominated for the high court.

Eggs surging in price after deadly bird flu affects U.S. poultry industry

The U.S. poultry industry is battling a surge of the contagious bird flu which has already killed millions of chickens and turkeys this year.  With Easter just weeks away, the supply of eggs has vastly dwindled, causing increased prices for consumers.

According to a report released Monday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 22.8 million birds have been affected by the bird flu.  Highly pathogenic strains of avian influenza are sweeping through 24 states, including Wyoming, Maine and in particular, Iowa. Counties in Iowa which produce over 1 billion eggs annually have declared disaster in light of the outbreak. About 5.3 million birds in Iowa’s Buena Vista County have caught avian flu.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the bird flu isn’t known to cause major health concerns in humans. The CDC announced in March that the current strains lack the changes seen in previous strains that put humans at greater risk for infection and severe illness.

Officials at the state level are urging owners of commercial and backyard flocks to keep their birds indoors. The bird flu’s deadly impacts are hurting the poultry industry and the seasonal demand for the Easter and Passover holidays.
