Green Bay Packers and cornerback Jaire Alexander agree to historic contract worth $84M

The Green Bay Packers and Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander have agreed to a four-year, $84 million contract extension. The deal, which includes a $30 million signing bonus, will keep the defensive back under contract with the NFC North franchise through 2026.

Alexander, 25, joined the Packers as the No. 18 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and was entering the final year of his rookie contract.  The 5-foot-10, 196-pound defender totaled 13 tackles, three passes defensed and an interception in 2021. He was named to the Pro Bowl and earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2020. In four seasons, Alexander has 188 total tackles, 44 pass deflections, five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Alexander’s 2021 season was derailed by a shoulder injury that limited him to just four games. He made an appearance in Green Bay’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round, but is expected to be healthy in time for the 2022 season.

The Packers will face the Minnesota Vikings in their first regular-season game at 4:25 p.m. EDT Sept. 11 in Minneapolis.

Vegas Golden Knights fire coach Peter DeBoer after missing playoffs

The Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon announced on Monday they have fired coach Peter DeBoer after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in its brief NHL history.

McCrimmon in a news release:  “We would like to thank Pete DeBoer for his commitment to the Vegas Golden Knights over the past three seasons. Since joining the organization, Pete and his staff have guided us through some of the most unique and challenging circumstances we’ve witnessed since our franchise entered the NHL.  After lengthy discussions over the last two weeks, we believe that a new coach will put us in the best position to succeed next season.”

DeBoer, 53, led the Golden Knights to a 43-31-8 record this past season and a fourth-place finish in the Western Conference’s Pacific division. Under DeBoer, the Golden Knights played their inaugural season in 2016-18, going 98-50-12 in three seasons. The veteran coach replaced former Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant during the 2019-20 campaign; he previously coached the Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks.

The Golden Knights won their division in three of their first four seasons, losing in the Stanley Cup playoffs semifinals in 2021 and in the Western Conference finals in 2020. They reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2018, but lost in five games to the Washington Capitals.

Wynonna Judd says The Judds planned ‘farewell’ concert tour will go on despite mom Naomi’s death

Wynonna Judd says The Judds planned ‘farewell’ concert tour will go on, despite the death of her mother and singing partner, Naomi Judd.  Wynonna said during the Nashville memorial for Naomi that aired on CMT: “I’ve made a decision, and I thought I’d share it on national television that, after a lot of thought, I’m gonna have to honor her and do this tour. The show must go on, as hard as it may be, and we will show up together, and you will carry me as you’ve carried me for 38 years. So we will continue this spectacle. That’s what she would want, right?”

During the memorial for Naomi Judd, daughter Wynonna also performed The Judds hit song “River of Time,” and sang a duet of “The Rose” with Brandi Carlile.  Sister, Ashley opened the memorial by saying: “Thank you for being in community and fellowship with us. Thank you for showing up for our mom. We are here tonight remembering an icon and a legend who left country music better than she found it.”

The memorial service, hosted by Robin Roberts, included performances from Brad Paisley, Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde, Little Big Town, Jamey Johnson, Emmylou Harris and Allison Russell.  Bono, Oprah Winfrey, Reba McEntire, Salma Hayek, Reese Witherspoon and Morgan Freeman appeared in filmed testimonials.

Naomi took her own life at the age of 76 after years of battling depression and anxiety.  Her death came just one day before she and Wynonna were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Kim Kardashian, Ciara and more to appear on the cover of 2022 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue

Sports Illustrated has unveiled the cover models for its 2022 swimsuit issue: Kim Kardashian, singer Ciara and models Yumi Nu and Maye Musk appear on four new covers of the magazine.

Kardashian, 41, was photographed by Greg Swales at photoshoot in the Dominican Republic. In an interview, Kardashian said it was a surprise to be selected for the Sports Illustrated cover: “I vividly remember Tyra Banks on the cover and women with curves. I remember thinking that is so cool. But, I still didn’t think I would have — I thought you had to be a professional model and a runway model. It was always really young girls. I don’t want to date myself or sound old but in my 40s? That’s crazy! I never thought in a million years I would be shooting one myself.”

Ciara, 36, was photographed by Ben Watts in Barbados. The singer said appearing on the cover was “a big dream come true” and talked about having the freedom to pursue her goals.  Said Ciara: “When you’re pursuing your dream, all it takes is one person to believe and that’s you. If you believe, there’s all the chance in the world… There’s a lot more I want to accomplish and I have to have that ‘I believe in me, why not you’ attitude.”

The 25-year-old Nu is a Japanese-Dutch model, and the niece of DJ Steve Aoki and model and actress Devon Aoki. She made her Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue debut in 2021 and was the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of Vogue Japan. The 74-year-old Musk is a Canadian-South African model and dietician, and the mother of entrepreneur Elon Musk. She is best known for her modeling work with CoverGirl.

Post Malone & Roddy Ricch team up for the new single ‘Cooped Up’

Post Malone has dropped the follow-up to his hit song ‘One Right Now’ (featuring The Weeknd) with the release of his new single with Roddy Ricch titled ‘Cooped Up.’

Said Post about Roddy: “He’s just such an incredible man and just a natural performer and vocalist and lyricist. And he just gets after it, and it’s so cool. And he’s such a beautiful, beautiful man. And so talented, man. I’m so pumped.”   Post also said of their new collab: “I’m trying, man. I’m trying. I’ve been out of my bag for a long time, and I’m trying to hop back in there, man. We knew what we wanted to say, and we knew what we wanted to express, not only in a song but in that particular moment on the album. And yeah, it just came super naturally. I couldn’t even tell you. I was probably on the s***ter when I wrote it. And so, there’s a lot of things very much so on this record that are tongue in cheek. And I think this whole record is the most honest record I’ve made, and I’m so pumped for people to hear it. But every song in there tells a story, so this is kind of like, “Here’s the life that we live, but there’s always something going on in the background.”
