The Offspring share the video for ‘Behind Your Walls’

The Offspring have shared the animated video for their new single “Behind Your Walls,” directed and animated by Jeb Hardwick, who worked closely with lead singer and songwriter Dexter Holland.

Said Hardwick: “The song evoked a sense of a couple trying to connect through emotional barriers that had been building over timeI wanted to take that prompt and turn it into a dark fairytale, a sort of dystopian take on the classical storytelling structure of writers like the Brothers Grimm. I wanted the video to have an ambiguous dreamlike aesthetic to it, so I was keen to take away some of the sharpness and crispness usually associated with CGI and give a sense of it being somewhere between a moving painting and a 1920s German Expressionist film.”

The Offspring are currently on tour in support of their most recent album, Let the Bad Times Roll.   The band has also confirmed appearances at summer festivals throughout Europe, Japan, and Brazil.

Five House Republicans, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, subpoenaed by January 6 committee

The committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the U.S. Capitol issued five subpoenas to House Republicans on Thursday, including one to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. The panel also subpoenaed representatives Jim Jordan of Ohio, Mo Brooks of Alabama, Andy Biggs of Arizona and Pennsylvania’s Scott Perry. The five will now be required to testify in front of the committee about the events “on or leading up to January 6th and activities related to the transfer of power” from former President Donald Trump to Joe Biden.  All five have previously declined invitations to voluntarily sit for a deposition.

The committee said in a statement that it “has reason to believe that they have relevant knowledge” of the events, adding, “these members include those who participated in meetings at the White House, those who had direct conversations with President Trump leading up to and during the attack on the Capitol, and those who were involved in the planning and coordination of certain activities on and before January 6th.”

McCarthy told reporters Thursday, “My view on the committee has not changed. They’re not conducting a legitimate investigation. They just want to go after their political opponents.” Previously, the committee said it was interested in speaking to McCarthy after he acknowledged speaking directly with Trump while the riots were underway; they believe he may have information about Trump’s “state of mind and decisions” in the aftermath of the riot.

Hundreds are evacuated after Coastal Fire in Orange County, California destroys more than 20 homes

At least 20 homes were destroyed between Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach, California due to a brush fire that spread rapidly amid strong winds.

Crews continued to fight the flames of the blaze on Thursday, called the Coastal Fire, which broke out Wednesday afternoon near a water treatment plant and quickly grew in size. At a Thursday morning press conference, fire officials said the fire had burned approximately 200 acres.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Southern California Edison said it sent a letter to the California Public Utilities Commission to inform them of “circuit activity” around the time the fire was reported. Some 900 homes remained under mandatory evacuation orders. Assistant Fire Chief TJ McGovern said: “We did have wind, which is a normal wind condition for this area. Since it started at the bottom of the drainage, it started running up-canyon and upslope. Throwing some wind on that, and the terrain — the steepness of it, was a bad recipe.” McGovern said one firefighter was injured Wednesday and was taken to the hospital. All of the details on their condition were not released, but the firefighter is listed in stable condition.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing a grant to California that will secure additional resources and financial assistance for battling the fire, according to the governor’s office.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy arrested for criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested Thursday in Colorado and is currently being held without bond. Jeudy was taken into custody sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m local time.  The NFL said in a statement: “We are aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information.”

The Arapahoe Sheriff’s Office said that Jeudy has been charged with second degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer, which is a misdemeanor in the state of Colorado. He is currently being held at the Arapahoe County jail. According to Colorado law, Jeudy could face up to 120 days in jail and/or $750 in fines if convicted. The state defines second-degree criminal tampering as tampering with someone’s property with “intent to cause injury, inconvenience or annoyance.

Originally from Alabama, the 23-year-old Jeudy, who is currently in his third year with the Denver Broncos, was selected as the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Last season the receiver recorded 38 receptions for 467 yards while missing seven games with an ankle injury. During his rookie season in 2020, he tallied 52 receptions for 856 yards and three touchdowns.

Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike will skip Preakness Stakes, ending its Triple Crown bid

Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike will not compete in the Preakness Stakes, colt owner Rick Dawson said Thursday. Opting out of the race means there will be no possible Triple Crown champion this year. Dawson announced the decision in a statement from the Maryland Jockey Club, saying the team’s original plan was to run Rich Strike in the Preakness rather than the Kentucky Derby.

Long-shot Rich Strike was an alternate for the Derby and was elevated to the field when Ethereal Road was scratched the day before that race.  Said Dawson, “Obviously, with our tremendous effort and win in the Derby, it’s very, very tempting to alter our course and run in the Preakness at Pimlico, which would be a great honor for all our group. However, after much discussion and consideration with my trainer, Eric Reed, and a few others, we are going to pass on running in the Preakness and point toward the Belmont in approximately five weeks.”

Rich Strike overcame 80-1 odds to win the 2022 Derby last Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.  Trainer Eric Reed said after the race that Rich Strike’s chances were “real good” to win the second leg of the Triple Crown, but later admitted he needed to work with the horse before committing to the Preakness.

The 2022 Preakness Stakes is expected to start at 6:50 p.m. EDT May 21 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, airing on NBC.  The Belmont Stakes, the final jewel of the Triple Crown, will be held on June 11 at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.

Dolly Parton to star in a TikTok musical about Taco Bell’s Mexican pizza

Dolly Parton is starring in a satirical TikTok musical about Taco Bell’s Mexican pizza that will premiere later this month. The country music icon shared the news about her leading role in “Mexican Pizza: The Musical” on social media, writing in an Instagram post along a photo of the screenplay: I’m making #MexicanPizzaTheMusical with @TacoBell#tacobellpartner. “ Taco Bell tweeted with a photo of its Playbill ad with the caption: #MexicanPizzaTheMusical is really happening. Let’s do this!”

Taco Bell’s musical is written by Hannah Friedman with music by Grammy award-winning songwriting duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.  According to the screenplay shared on Parton’s Instagram post, Mexican Pizza: The Musical is “based on the true story of the Internet losing its mind” after the fast-food chain removed the product from its menu in late 2020. It is inspired by TikTok star Victor Kunda’s viral video in March parodying what a dress rehearsal of the musical would look like, based on singer Doja Cat’s catchy jingle shared on the social media app that same month.

Parton has been vocal in the past about her love of Taco Bell, and in January she said in an interview that she thinks the Mexican Pizza should be brought back to menus.  Said Parton of Taco Bell: “They used to make a little … Mexican Pizza.  which is also good. I love that.”

Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza: The Musical will be released at 8 p.m. ET on May 26, a week after Mexican pizza officially returns to its menu.

Bono announces his new memoir ‘Surrender’ will be released November 1st

U2 frontman Bono announced the release date for his memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, will be Nov. 1st. According to publisher Alfred A. Knopf, the memoir is “the story of the remarkable life he’s lived, the challenges he’s faced and the friends and family who have shaped and sustained him.”

The book is named Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story since each chapter is titled after a different U2 song, and Bono has also created 40 original drawings for the project. Bono said in a statement: “When I started to write this book, I was hoping to draw in detail what I’d previously only sketched in songs. The people, places and possibilities in my life. Surrender is a word freighted with meaning for me. Growing up in Ireland in the ‘70s with my fists up (musically speaking), it was not a natural concept. A word I only circled until I gathered my thoughts for the book. I am still grappling with this most humbling of commands. In the band, in my marriage, in my faith, in my life as an activist. Surrender is the story of one pilgrim’s lack of progress … with a fair amount of fun along the way.”

The book and an an unabridged audio companion on CD will be released on November 1st via Random House Publishing. The book, in both hardcover and audio form, can be pre-ordered here.
