Take a look at the teaser trailer for ‘Hocus Pocus 2’

The Sanderson Sisters are back in the first teaser trailer for Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel to the classic Halloween movie which reunites Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, respectively, taking place 29 years after the original Hocus Pocus film.

The teaser trailer opens on a scene of three high school students played by Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo and Lilia Buckingham, who are discussing their plans for that night. Becca (Peak) tells Cassie (Buckingham) “Birthday ritual: scary movie marathon, same as every year,” as clips play of Becca and Izzy (Escobedo) visiting a magic shop and reciting a ritualistic prayer — only to realize the chanting works, and the Black Flame Candle is officially lit. A red crack opens up in the ground beneath the girls as they try to run away. “Lock up your children,” says Winifred (Midler). “Yes, Salem. We’re back!”

Hocus Pocus 2 also stars Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Hannah Waddingham, Froyan Gutierrez and Tony Hale, among others. The sequel film premieres on Disney+ Sept. 30.  Check out the teaser trailer – here.

At least 46 migrants found dead inside a tractor-trailer in San Antonio, Texas

At least forty-six migrants have been found dead inside a tractor-trailer found near Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, along with 16 others — 12 adults and four children — who have been taken to hospitals, local officials in San Antonio said on Monday evening.

The grim discovery was made late Monday afternoon, when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) responded to a call on Monday regarding an alleged ‘human smuggling event.’  According to officials, there was no working air-conditioning on the tractor-trailer, or water, and that those transported to hospitals were hot to the touch. The victims are suffering from heat exhaustion, the San Antonio Fire Department said.  Temperatures in San Antonio reached up to 100 degrees on Monday, per the National Weather Service.

San Antonio Police Chief William P. McManus said in a video posted on San Antonio Police Department’s Facebook that that three people were in custody. He stated that they do not know if the three people in custody are absolutely connected with human trafficking, adding that Homeland Security Investigations has now taken over the investigation.

At least 3 dead, dozens injured after Amtrak train hits dump truck in Missouri

Three people were killed and dozens injured in northern Missouri on Monday after an Amtrak passenger train collided with a dump truck and derailed. Officials said Southwest Chief Train 4 was carrying 207 passengers and additional crew members from Los Angeles to Chicago when it hit a truck near Mendon, Missouri, at approximately 12:43 p.m. local time. An official from the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crossing was “uncontrolled” and had no lights or crossing rails, which is common in more rural areas.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Justin Dunn said at a press conference that seven of the train’s eight cars derailed.  He added that two of the victims were on the train and the other was in the truck. It’s not clear if the train victims were passengers or crew members. All passengers have been transported from the scene, Dunn said. As many as 50 people were injured with many of the minor injuries being treated at a nearby school.

Amtrak did not provide any additional information about the crash or the condition of the train and its passengers. Missouri Governor Mike Parson said he’s “saddened” to hear of the derailment, adding that “Missouri Department of Public Safety, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers, and other emergency management personnel are responding.”

The Missouri derailment is Amtrak’s second train crash in two days. An Amtrak train and passenger car collided in Northern California Sunday, killing three people in the car; no one on board that train was seriously injured.

WNBA star Brittney Griner receives Russian court date for this Friday; will remain detained for six more months

WNBA star Brittney Griner appeared briefly during a closed-door preliminary hearing in Russia on Monday, with the Russian court scheduling Griner’s trial to start Friday, according to her lawyer. The court also ruled Griner’s detention be extended six months pending its outcome. The Olympic gold medal-winning basketball player and WNBA champion appeared in the Russian court in suburban Moscow in handcuffs and left without comment. Griner could face 10 years in prison if convicted on charges of large-scale transportation of drugs.

Russian authorities took Griner, 31, into custody at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Russia on Feb. 17, just days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Griner plays for the Phoenix Mercury in the U.S., and plays in Russia during the WNBA’s offseason Russian authorities claimed Griner had cannabis oil in her luggage and accused her of smuggling significant amounts of a narcotic substance, an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The U.S. State Department has since ruled that Griner is being “wrongfully detained,” a designation that allows it to advocate more forcefully on her behalf. The State Department said last month it is continuing its efforts on Griner’s behalf and other Americans detained in Russia. Jalina Porter, principal deputy spokesperson with the State Department, said about Griner and other Americans detained by Russia: “What we’ve said and will continue to say from here is that we have no other priority than the safety and security of the United States citizens who are overseas, and we continue to insist that the government of Russia allow for consistent and timely consular access to all U.S. citizens — U.S. citizen detainees in Russia, including those in pretrial detention — in compliance with its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and bilateral consular convention with the United States. Our requests for access are consistently delayed or denied, and we will continue to press for fair and transparent treatment for all U.S. citizen detainees in Russia.”

Novak Djokovic makes history with 1st-round win at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic defeated Kwon Soon-woo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court at Wimbledon on Monday, his 80th victory at the grass-court.  Djokovic, a six-time champion at the All England Club, made history and becomes the first man or woman to win that many matches at each of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments.

Djokovic said: “It’s always very unique match to play as the defending champion, first on the grass. Other than this year that Wimbledon made a change so you could practice before the tournament starts, it was always coming out on the untouched grass. It’s really a unique and special feeling in our sport.”

Djokovic was playing for the first time since losing to Rafael Nadal last month in the French Open quarterfinals. He has won the last three Wimbledon titles, and is going for his seventh overall which would tie him for second place with Pete Sampras and William Renshaw.  Roger Federer leads with eight Wimbledon titles.
