NFL issues two game suspension to chiefs DE Frank Clark for violating personal conduct policy

Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark has been suspended for two games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The suspension will begin after Kansas City’s bye in Week 8, with Clark missing home games against the Titans and Jaguars.

Clark’s suspension stems from him pleading no contest in September to two counts of misdemeanor possession of an assault weapon in separate incidents in 2021. Clark pled no contest to both charges, and was sentenced to one year of probation and 40 hours of community service. In March of 2021, Clark was arrested after he was pulled over in a vehicle without a license and a police officer noticed a weapon in the vehicle and recovered two loaded firearms.

The 29-year-old Clark was then arrested in June of 2021 for felony possession of a concealed firearm. Both arrests took place in Los Angeles. Clark has a previous arrest in 2014 on suspicion of domestic violence due to an incident in an Ohio. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.

Clark, who joined the Chiefs after being traded by the Seahawks prior to the 2019 season, has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons. He has three sacks and four tackles for loss in seven games this year, and has started 47 games for Kansas City over the past four seasons.

Adidas cuts ties with Kanye West after recent antisemitic comments

On Tuesday, shoe company Adidas said it will be cutting ties with rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) after his recent antisemitic comments in interviews and on social media.

Adidas said in a statement that it was ending production of Yeezy-branded products and stopping all payments to Ye and his companies. The company statement read in part: “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

The 45-year-old West was worth around $2 billion for his music and sneaker brand Yeezy, as well as his former partnership with Gap which ended recently. He has lost multiple sponsors after tweeting he wanted to go “death con 3” on Jewish people. Balenciaga stopped working with West, and JPMorgan Chase also severed ties with him.  Creative Artists Agency also dropped West as a client earlier this month.

Bono reveals that U2 has shelved ‘Songs of Ascent’ for new rock album

Bono revealed that despite U2 recording about 20 songs for its long-awaited Songs of Ascent album, the band will be shelving it — for now. Bono shared with The New York Times that the band has decided to return the studio in favor of a rock album. Said Bono: “We have almost finished this album called Songs of Ascent, which we’re not putting out. We’re going to put out a rock ’n’ roll album. So we’re not putting this out, but I’m telling you it’s awesome.”

The U2 frontman added that Songs of Ascent isn’t scrapped, just “on hold” and will be replaced with “a noisy, uncompromising, unreasonable guitar album. In among that unreasonableness, it is likely that I will put the part of me, the anger that hasn’t been managed, to good use.” It’s unclear when the new rock record or Songs of Ascent will drop.

The band is also planning to release ‘Songs of Surrender’ this fall, featuring 40 older U2 songs recreated during the lockdown. The fan site U2 Songs states some of the tracks will be previewed on November 1st with the companion audio book of Bono’s memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Stor,. “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “One,” “With Or Without You,” “Beautiful Day” and more are set to be released as a four disc set sometime following the book’s release.

Gunman is killed after 2 are fatally shot at St. Louis high school

Authorities confirm that a woman and a teenage girl were killed Monday morning in a shooting inside a St. Louis high school, adding that the gunman was also killed in the shooting, and six others were taken to hospitals with injuries.  The gunman was about 20 years old and hasn’t been positively identified.

St. Louis Police Commissioner Michael Sack said at a news conference that the injuries ranged from gunshot wounds to shrapnel wounds:  “This is a heartbreaking day for all of us. It’s going to be tough. While on paper we might have nine victims … we have hundreds of others. Everyone who survived here is going to take home trauma, even the officers who responded here and the firefighters and the paramedics who worked on people here are going to experience some degree of trauma.”

The shooting just after 9 a.m. at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School forced students to barricade doors and huddle in classroom corners, jump from windows and run out of the building to seek safety. St. Louis Public Schools said on Twitter that the shooter was “quickly stopped” by police and Superintendent Kelvin Adams said seven security guards were in the school at the time, each at an entry point of the locked building. One of the guards noticed the man was trying to get in at a locked door, but couldn’t. The guard notified school officials and ensured that police were contacted.

Central Visual and Performing Arts High School is a magnet school specializing in visual art, musical art and performing art. The district website says the school’s “educational program is designed to create a nurturing environment where students receive a quality academic and artistic education that prepares them to compete successfully at the post-secondary level or perform competently in the world of work.”
