Avril Lavigne and YUNGBLUD share their video for ‘I’m A Mess’

Avril Lavigne is sharing the video for her new single with YUNGBLUD, I’m A Mess, written by Lavigne and Yungblud (real name Dominic Harirson) alongside frequent collaborator Travis Barker of Blink-182 and John Feldmann.

The track was first teased late last month when the pair of musicians posted the same video to their Instagram accounts, captioned, I’m A Mess. In the clip, Lavigne sits on a toilet while Yungblud is positioned behind her, when the musician begins to cut off a substantial length of Avril’s hair. Later that day, Yungblud wrote on Twitter: “the song we’re about to drop is full-on lookin’ out the window of your parent’s car pretendin’ you’re in a music video vibes.”

Steve Bannon prison sentence is delayed after appealing his contempt conviction

The prison sentence of former chief White House strategist Steve Bannon was delayed on Monday after Bannon appealed his conviction on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress. Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison more than two weeks ago after being convicted of contempt of Congress in July. Judge Carl Nichols of the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia ruled Monday to delay Bannon’s prison term until his appeal processes through the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Bannon – the adviser to former President Donald Trump – refused orders to appear from the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and was indicted more than a year ago for defying a congressional subpoena. On Friday, Bannon filed a notice to appeal his conviction. The grounds on which Bannon is appealing the conviction are not yet confirmed, though it is expected that his legal team will argue that he was acting on the advice of counsel to not appear before the House Committee.

Bannon had previously claimed to the committee was that he could not testify because of executive privilege.  His team said he was advised by attorney Robert Costello to defy the congressional subpoena and was simply doing as he was advised to do:  “The facts of this case show that Mr. Bannon’s conduct was based on his good-faith reliance on his lawyer’s advice. Mr. Costello provided advice to Mr. Bannon, and Mr. Bannon acted on that advice.”

Department of Justice to monitor voting rights across 24 states

The Justice Department will send monitors to 24 states to ensure compliance with federal voting rights laws in Tuesday’s elections. The action comes as civil rights groups and the federal government have raised alarm over potential voter intimidation at some polling places and ballot boxes. The 64 jurisdictions where federal monitors will be dispatched include the three Florida counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach.

The DOJ said Monday that the monitors are being sent to protect the rights of voters as they have for decades: “Since the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Civil Rights Division has regularly monitored elections in the field in jurisdictions around the country to protect the rights of voters. The Civil Rights Division will also take complaints from the public nationwide regarding possible violations of the federal voting rights laws through its call center.”

The DOJ said: “Complaints related to disruption at a polling place should always be reported immediately to local election officials (including officials in the polling place). Complaints related to violence, threats of violence or intimidation at a polling place should be reported immediately to local police authorities by calling 911.”  On Election Day, the public may report possible violations of the federal voting rights laws by a complaint form on the department’s website or by telephone toll-free at 800-253-3931.

Indianapolis Colts name Jeff Saturday interim coach after firing of Frank Reich

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced on Monday the firing of head coach Frank Reich after a 3–5–1 start to the season, which included a blowout loss at New England on Sunday.  Irsay also announced that six-time Pro Bowl center and current ESPN NFL analyst Jeff Saturday has been named interim coach – despite never coaching at the college or professional level.

Over 4 1/2 seasons in Indianapolis, Reich compiled a 40–33-1 record with a 1–2 record in the postseason. Indianapolis’s current season under Reich – a former offensive coordinator in Philadelphia – has been off-track for a variety of reason.  The Colts traded quarterback Carson Wentz last offseason for veteran Matt Ryan, but after a disappointing start for Indianapolis, Ryan was benched in favor of second-year pro Sam Ehlinger. However through two starts, Ehlinger has played inconsistently.

NY Giants safety Xavier McKinney to miss four games with hand injury

NY Giants safety Xavier McKinney will miss at least four games as a result of the hand injury he suffered on a trip to Cabo during the team’s bye week. McKinney announced on Monday morning that he hurt his hand while riding an ATV during the trip. Initially McKinney said he would be sidelined for “a few weeks” due to the injury, but he’ll now be out at least the next four games after the Giants placed him on the non-football injury (NFI) list on Monday evening. McKinney wrote on Twitter: “I will do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible so I can contribute to what we’re building here in NY.”

McKinney has not missed a snap yet this season up until this point; he will miss at least the matchups against the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving and Washington Commanders. Dane Belton is in line to temporarily fill his spot in the starting lineup.

The Giants also announced that defensive lineman Nick Williams has been placed on injured reserve. He injured his biceps in their Week Eight loss to the Seahawks.
