Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United ‘with immediate effect’

Days after Cristiano Ronaldo gave an interview criticizing Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s owners, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday that Ronaldo will leave United “with immediate effect.”

United said in a statement posted to Twitter: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford.” Moments after the club’s announcement, Ronaldo issued his own statement confirming the break, per Fabrizio Romano: “Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best.”

It was reported over the weekend that United was exploring legal ways to sever ties with Ronaldo after his comments ripping the club and manager Erik ten Hag. Ronaldo, who is currently in Qatar with Portugal as he aims to win a first World Cup title for his country, has been left frustrated after being reduced to a fringe member of United’s team this season. The Portugal captain said he felt “betrayed” during the 90-minute interview with Piers Morgan, which aired Thursday and in which he was also critical of younger players.  Said Ronaldo: “I felt like some people don’t want me here … not only this year but last year, too.”

Upon severing ties with Ronaldo, United will save around £15.5 million in wages, as the team will not pay out the rest of his deal or additional compensation. The agreement will allow the Ronaldo to sign with another Premier League club if he chooses.  Ronaldo joined United for a second stint with the team in 2021, scoring 19 goals in 40 appearances. He previously played for the team from 2003-2009, scoring 94 goals in 196 appearances.

Cleveland Browns place starting center Ethan Pocic on injured reserve

The Cleveland Browns placed starting center Ethan Pocic on the injured reserve list on Tuesday.
Pocic, who injured his knee on the opening series of Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, will now be out for a minimum of four weeks. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has stated that Hjalte Froholdt will continue to start in Pocic’s absence at the center position.

The loss of Pocic is a blow to the to the struggling Browns (3-7) and their offensive line, as the 27-year-old entered last weekend’s game as the No. 2-ranked center. Pocic, who signed with the Browns as a free agent in April, took over as starting center after Nick Harris sustained a season-ending knee injury on the second play of the exhibition opener in Jacksonville.

The Browns announced Tuesday they have signed center Greg Mancz to take Pocic’s spot on the roster; the 6-foot-4, 310-pound Mancz, a seven-year veteran, played for the Houston Texans from 2105 to 2020 and started 16 games for the Texans in 2016. He appeared in five games, making four starts, with the Miami Dolphins in 2021 and appeared in one game this season with the Buffalo Bills before being released on November 17.

Godsmack debut the music video for “Surrender”

Godsmack have dropped the music video for their recent single “Surrender”, the first single from the band’s forthcoming final studio album, “Lighting Up The Sky” which is set to arrive on February 24, 2023.

According to the group’s vocalist/guitarist Sully Erna, Godsmack plan to become a legacy touring act after the released of their eighth studio LP. Erna recently said of the song “Surrender”: “‘Surrender‘ is a very cut and dry song. It’s simply about the exhaustion we can all feel in relationships at times from the redundancy of fighting with each other. At a certain point in our lives, we submit to putting aside who’s right or wrong, we just want it to STOP! So we wave the white flag.
