Denver Broncos fire first-year coach Nathaniel Hackett

The Denver Broncos announced on Monday they have fired first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett. The move comes after the Broncos were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day, 51-14, with Russell Wilson throwing three interceptions and Denver’s defense failing to force a single Rams punt. Hackett compiled a 4–11 record in his first season with Denver after replacing Vic Fangio as head coach this past offseason.  Broncos senior assistant Jerry Rosburg will take over for Hackett as interim head coach.

Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner released this statement announcing the decision: “On behalf of our ownership and organization, I want to thank Nathaniel Hackett for his dedication as head coach of the Denver Broncos. We sincerely appreciate Nathaniel’s efforts and wish him and his family all the best in the future. Following extensive conversations with George and our ownership group, we determined a new direction would ultimately be in the best interest of the Broncos. This change was made now out of respect for everyone involved and allows us to immediately begin the search for a new head coach. We recognize and appreciate this organization’s championship history, and we understand we have not met that standard. Our fans deserve much better, and I can’t say enough about their loyalty during such a challenging stretch for our team. Moving forward, we will carefully evaluate every aspect of our football operations and make whatever changes are necessary to restore this franchise’s winning tradition. I will lead our head coaching search with support from our ownership group and George, whom I have confidence in as our general manager. As we begin the process of selecting our next head coach, we remain focused on playing competitive football to finish the season on a positive note.”

The Broncos’ offense is one of the worst in the NFL this season, and QB Wilson is having the worst year of his career, throwing for just 3,019 yards and 12 touchdowns to nine interceptions in 13 games.

Charles Kelley shares his journey to sobriety with the song ‘As Far As You Could’

Lady A’s Charles Kelley has released his ‘goodbye letter to alcohol’ with the autobiographical song “As Far As You Could.” Kelley co-wrote and produced the ballad alongside Lady A bandmate Dave Haywood and Jimmy Robbins, after a public decision to stop drinking and begin addiction treatment. “As Far As You Could” marked a turning point in Kelley’s recovery.

Kelley says of his journey to sobriety: “For me, the biggest word I’ve been holding on to is gratitude, not pride. I’m grateful. I finally see the light and am connecting with what life is all about. Some days are hard, but the good so outweighs those bad moments. There’s some beauty in all this and I’ve had time to reflect, time to get healthy, time to write. I’ve probably written 50 songs this fall, and I feel like all of it was leading to this one song.”

Jeff Garlin joins fourth and final season of Netflix’s ‘Never Have I Ever’

Jeff Garlin has joined the cast of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever for its fourth and final season. It marks the first series Garlin has joined since he was let go from ABC’s The Goldbergs a year ago following an HR investigation. Garlin has remained part of the ensemble at HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, where he’s also an executive producer.

Netflix and co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher announced in March that the fourth season of Never Have I Ever, which follows an Indian American teenager (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) through her high school years, would be its last. Garlin will play a man named Len, who sparks the interest of Devi’s (Ramakrishnan) grandmother, Nirmala (Ranjita Chakravarty). The final season is slated to air in 2023.

Garlin starred on The Goldbergs for most of its first nine seasons, leaving the sitcom in December 2021 for alleged behavior on set that made members of the show’s staff uncomfortable. The Goldbergs wrote around Garlin’s absence and occasionally used old footage of him in the final episodes of the ninth season. He was written off at the start of season 10 when his character, patriarch Murray Goldberg, died offscreen.
