San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu arrested in domestic violence incident

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested Monday in a domestic violence incident. The San Jose Police Department said an adult female reported that her boyfriend, Omenihu, pushed her to the ground during an argument that occurred at approximately 4:39 p.m. local time. A release from the police department said: “Officers did not observe any visible physical injuries to the survivor … she did however have a complaint of pain to her arm.”

Police said officers contacted Omenihu at the scene, where he cooperated with the investigation and provided a statement. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for misdemeanor domestic violence, posted bail and was released. The defensive lineman could face possible charges as the case is reviewed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

Under the NFL’s personal conduct policy, a domestic violence situation could result in a six-game suspension for a first offense. The 49ers said in a statement: “We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information.”

Omenihu played 15 snaps in the 49ers’ divisional round victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Omenihu had 4.5 sacks during the regular season. San Francisco will play in the NFC championship game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Scott Rolen sole player elected to 2023 Hall of Fame on BBWAA ballot

The Baseball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that third baseman Scott Rolen, veteran of 17 big league seasons, was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). Rolen was the only player to receive enough votes to qualify for enshrinement by the BBWAA in this year’s election cycle. He will be inducted alongside first baseman Fred McGriff, who was previously elected by the Era Committee.

Rolen first appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot in 2018.  He garnered 10.2% of the vote, well below the 75% threshold for admittance but well above the 5% minimum required to stay on the ballot. On the ballot for the sixth time this year, Rolen received the most votes of any returnee from last year with 76.3% of the vote, just above the 75% required for induction. Rolen was voted into the Hall of Fame by five votes joining six other players who made it by that small of a margin.

Rolen was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the 1993 draft, debuting in the major leagues in 1996 when he was just 21 years old. In 1997, he hit 21 home runs and stole 16 bases en route to a batting line of .283/.377/.469 and was crowned the National League Rookie of the Year for that campaign. Rolen hit between 25 and 34 homers in each season from 1998 to 2004, and won a Gold Glove award in 1998 – the first of eight such awards he would win.  Over 17 MLB seasons, he hit 316 home runs, scored 1,211 runs, drove in 1,287, and stole 118 bases. He made seven All-Star teams, won eight Gold Gloves, a Rookie of the Year award and a World Series

Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’ ending with Season 6

Netflix announced in a video clip that Season 6 of ‘Cobra Kai’ will be its last. A premiere date hasn’t been set. with the video only saying it is “coming soon.”

Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg said the decision to end the series is bittersweet: “Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted. Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai.”

Cobra Kai began as a YouTube series, s continuation of the ‘Karate Kid’ movie franchise with original stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their roles. After two seasons at YouTube, the show moved to Netflix in 2020.
