Two students killed, employee seriously injured in shooting at Des Moines school

Two students were killed after a shooting at their Des Moines, Iowa, school on Monday. A third victim, a school employee, is in serious condition after the shooting at the charter school Starts Right Here.

Des Moines police spokesman Paul Parizek told reporters that calls for help came about 12:50 p.m. CT, and responding officers found the two students and an adult school employee all wounded.  Sgt. Parizek said: “There was nothing random about this, it was certainly a targeted incident. As far as a motive, that’s something we are going to try to figure out.” Witnesses provided police a description of a fleeing car, that officers tracked down. Police said the vehicle was pulled over 2 miles south of the school, and two people surrendered immediately while a third took off. A K-9 unit helped police capture that third person, with Parizek confirming “All three of the potential suspects are in custody.”

The Start Right Here charter school describes itself as a school for students who “deserve a chance to rise above the circumstances they were born into” and hopes to “give them a chance to choose a different future.” Des Moines Police Chief Dana Wingert is on the school’s board of directors. Des Moines police spokesman Paul Parizek said: “these are supposed to be our safe spaces, and this school in particular, it’s one that the police department works very closely with. The school is designed to pick up the slack and help kids who need the help the most, the ones who aren’t getting the services they need for a variety of different reasons. To have it happen here, it’s going to be a horrible impact on the community.”

Washington Wizards trade forward Rui Hachimura to LA Lakers in exchange for Kendrick Nunn

The Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards have finalized a trade that sends forward Rui Hachimura to Los Angeles in exchange for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks. Sources said that the deal includes a 2023 second-round pick via Chicago, the Lakers’ own in 2029 and the less favorable of the Wizards’ and Lakers’ 2028 second-round picks.

Los Angeles acquired Hachimura with the intention of signing him to an extension this summer. The 24-year-old had grown unhappy without a rookie contract extension in the preseason.  He told reporters just last week: “I just want to be somewhere that wants me as a basketball player. And I want to be somewhere that likes my game. … I just want to be somewhere that believes in me and I can be myself. That’s my goal.”

Hachimura is averaging 13.0 points and 4.3 rebounds on 33.7 percent 3-point shooting this season and matched a season-high with 30 points against the Magic on Saturday.  In his fourth NBA season, Nunn has played in 39 games this year after missing all of last season due to a knee injury. He was averaging 6.7 points off the bench for the Lakers this season.

Tyler Hubbard shares the video for “Dancin’ In The Country”

Just days before the release of his highly-anticipated solo debut album, Tyler Hubbard has released the video for “Dancin’ In The Country” starring actor and former NFL athlete Terry Crews.

One minute, he looked like he was ready to punch a hole in the wall, and the next, he’s got the entire room laughing, just being himself. Terry is one of those guys that everyone wants to be around, and he was just perfect for this video.”

Said Crews: “I was so excited to be asked to do this video with Tyler and when I saw the concept, I thought there was no one else that could pull this off. This video is like a three-minute touchdown celebration, and it was so great to be a part of. For Tyler to allow me to represent something he wrote from his heart means a lot and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

The film, titled ‘Michael’, is written by John Logan and produced by ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ producer Graham King, alongside the co-executors of the Michael Jackson Estate, John Branca and John McClain.
