Billie Eilish files restraining order against home invader

A masked intruder entered Billie Eilish’s family home in Los Angeles earlier this month. While he was arrested and no one was home when he broke in, the singer has now filed a restraining order against the suspect, 39-year-old Christopher Anderson.

The 21-year-old Eilish said that Anderson entered her house “unannounced and uninvited after apparently professing his love for me and expressing that he really wanted to meet me” in a statement with the filing. Eilish continued in her statement: “Regrettably, this is not the first time an unknown individual has attempted to contact my family and me specifically by stalking us outside my family’s home and by making professions of love to and threats of violence against me. However, each such occasion, including the present one, causes me substantial anxiety, fear, and emotional distress over my personal safety and that of my father, mother, and brother. I worry that some day one of these individuals will do something violent or extremely disturbing to me or one of my family members.”

According to the restraining order, this wasn’t the first time the suspect showed up to the residence; police had been called on five separate occasions. Eilish’s father, Patrick O’Connell, shared that Anderson had approached the home several times in December.  He once rang the intercom and asking to use the restroom, and on December 28 (just a week before the break in) he slid a cell phone under the gate. He returned the next day with a white flower and handwritten letter that “professed his love for my daughter Billie, claimed that at some point in time Billie had been watching Mr. Anderson and writing songs about Mr. Anderson, and that Mr. Anderson really wanted to meet Billie.” In addition to protecting herself, the restraining order would also protect Billie’s father, mother Maggie May Baird, and brother Finneas O’Connell.

Treasury to begin ‘extraordinary measures’ to avoid default as U.S. hits debt limit

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen notified congressional leaders in a letter on Thursday that she is implementing “extraordinary measures” to meet U.S. financial obligations — this after the United States hit the national debt limit of $31.4 trillion, which requires Congress to increase it in order to meet existing national financial obligations.

Yellen wrote to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy: “I respectfully urge Congress to act promptly to protect the full faith and credit of the United States.” According to Yellen, it’s not clear exactly how long government cash and extraordinary measures can work to fulfill the nation’s economic obligations but said it’s unlikely resources will be exhausted “before early June.”

House Republicans have indicated they will demand deep spending cuts before agreeing to raise the debt ceiling; the Biden administration wants the debt ceiling raised without conditions. Yellen warned congressional leadership that failure to raise the limit in time would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy. Despite that warning, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told reporters this week raising the limit without cutting spending is off the table. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing that Republicans “are threatening to kill millions of jobs and 401(k) plans by trying to hold the debt limit hostage unless they can, again, cut Social Security, cut Medicare, cut Medicaid,” adding that President Biden “will not allow Republicans to take the economy hostage or make working Americans pay the price for their schemes to benefit the wealthiest Americans and also special interests.”

‘Ted Lasso’ shares first look at Season 3 premiering Spring 2023

Apple TV+ has announced Season 3 of the Emmy-winning comedy ‘Ted Lasso’ will premiere this spring.  The streaming service also released a first image from the upcoming season. The first photo from Season 3 of the show hints at still unresolved tensions between Ted (Sudeikis) and Nate (Nick Mohammed), who left AFC Richmond at the end of season two and ended up at West Ham United, the Premier League team owned by Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head). It shows Nate and Ted meeting in the West Ham facilities, with Rupert looming in the background.

What remains in question is whether Season 3 will be the last for the popular series.  Creators Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly have said they sold the series ‘for a three-season arc.’ “ After season 2 ended, Lawrence said: “This story is going to be over [in season three], regardless, even if the show finds another story to tell and goes on.”  Hunt, who plays Coach Beard on the series, added: “We are writing an ending for this three-chunk portion that we’ve always seen, but it’s not like Thanos is in it and half of us die. Most of us, anyway, will probably still be alive, so I don’t think leaving an out is anything to worry about. It’s just a matter of whether or not we pick this up in some other way, and when.”
