Quarterback Tom Brady announces his retirement from the NFL “for good”

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady has announced his retirement after 23 seasons in the NFL. The 45-year-old Brady shared the news in a video posted on social media on Wednesday, saying: “I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first. It won’t be long-winded. You only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year.”  The seven-time Super Bowl champion also thanked his family, friends, teammates and competitors for their support throughout his career: “Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. “I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Brady initially retired in February 2022, but the decision was temporary as he announced March 2022 he would return for his 23rd season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The NFL tweeted, “The greatest ever,” adding in another tweet:For all the rings. For all the touchdowns. For all the memories. Thank you for everything, @TomBrady. ❤”  The Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted a tweet that read “#ThankYouTom, ” and the New England Patriots tweeted“Quite the ride indeed. Thank you again, @TomBrady”

Brady — a three-time NFL MVP, five-time Super Bowl MVP, three-time All-Pro, and two-time Offensive Player of the Year — is considered by many to be the greatest quarterback of all time, having led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl wins, and the Bucs to one. During his NFL career, the three-time league MVP has broken almost every passing record, including games played (335 regular season, 383 overall), regular season passing yards (89,214), touchdown passes (649), and playoff victories (35). He has also amassed the most wins of any player in NFL history (251).

Brady played 20 seasons in New England before leaving as a free agent after the 2020 season and signing with the Bucs, where he led the team to a Super Bowl win in 2021. Brady led the NFL in pass attempts and completions in each of the last two seasons. He led the NFL in passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) in 2021, en route to his 15th Pro Bowl selection. This past season, he completed 66.8% of his throws for 4,694 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 17 starts.

Cole Swindell releases his latest single ‘Drinkaby’

Cole Swindell has released his latest single “Drinkaby,” one of the three new songs included on his upcoming deluxe album Stereotype Broken, available April 28th. Written by Jon Pardi, Jordan Schmidt, Hardy and Hunter Phelps, “Drinkaby” is the follow-up to Swindell’s three multi-week No. 1 singles from his fourth album ‘Stereotype’ — “Never Say Never” (featuring Lainey Wilson), “Single Saturday Night” and “She Had Me At Heads Carolina.”

Says Swindell about the new song: “’Drinkaby’ – from the first time I heard it – I pictured it being a huge show opener. The guitar lick in the intro just grabs you and doesn’t let you go. I’m not sure if there is such thing as a fun breakup song but that’s kind of what this is. Glad it’s finally out and can’t wait to get out there and play it live.”

Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson to play King of Pop in upcoming biopic

Jaafar Jackson will portray his uncle, the legendary Michael Jackson, in the upcoming biopic “Michael,” director Antoine Fuqua announced on social media. “Michael” will be the first major film role for Jaafar Jackson, the second-youngest son to Jermaine Jackson, whose brother was Michael Jackson.

“Michael” will depict the legacy of the man who became known as the King of Pop. According to Lionsgate Studios, the film will explore all aspects of Jackosn’s life, “including his most iconic performances that led him to become the greatest entertainer of all time.” The film is being made with the cooperation of the Michael Jackson estate. Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson, said “Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers.”

Producer Graham King said they held a worldwide casting search for the title role before finding the actor who would portray Jackson: “I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael. It was something so powerful that even after conducting a worldwide search, it was clear that he is the only person to take on this role. I am beyond thrilled that he has come on board to portray his uncle and cannot wait for the world to see him on the big screen as Michael Jackson.”  Added Fuqua: “It’s incredibly exciting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life. There was such a spiritual connection when I first met Jaafar, who has a natural ability to emulate Michael and such a great chemistry with the camera.”

Ozzy Osbourne announces retirement from touring due to health issues

Ozzy Osbourne announced he’s canceling his upcoming 2023 tour dates, and will be retiring from touring due to health issues. The 74-year-old heavy metal legend said in statement posted to his social media accounts on Wednesday that despite operations, treatments and physical therapy sessions after an accident four years ago, his body is “still physically weak.”  Osbourne fell at his home in Los Angeles in 2019 which aggravated injuries from a 2003 ATV accident, injuring his spine. The Black Sabbath frontman also announced in 2020 that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The singer has canceled several shows over the past few years due to health issues.

Osbourne said in his statement: “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine … My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak … I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required .. Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.  I want to thank my family…… my band…… my crew…… my longtime friends, Judas Priest, and of course, my fans for their endless dedication, loyalty, and support, and for giving me the life that I never ever dreamed I would have. I love you all…”

Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the funeral of Tyre Nichols in Memphis

The office of Vice President Kamala Harris announced that she will travel to Memphis, Tennessee, to attend the funeral of Tyre Nichols on Wednesday.

Civil rights lawyer and Nichols’ family attorney Ben Crump said Nichols’ mother, RowVaughn Wells, and stepfather, Rodney Wells, spoke by phone with Harris for more than 30 minutes on Tuesday about Nichols’ death. Crump said in a statement: “Tyre’s parents invited Vice President Harris to the funeral tomorrow, and were pleased that she accepted their invitation. Mr. and Mrs. Wells are grateful for Vice President Harris reaching out to them during this heartbreaking time and for her sensitivity on the call.”

The 29-year-old Nichols, a black man, died on Jan, 10, three days after he was beaten by Memphis police officers at a traffic stop. Graphic footage of the incident was recorded on officers’ body cameras, and the footage was released to the public on Friday, sparking nationwide outrage. As a result, five officers were fired and charged with second-degree murder in Nichols’ death. Two other officers were relieved of duty amid an ongoing investigation. Three fire department personnel (two EMTs and a lieutenant) who responded to the scene were also fired.

The funeral will be held at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, where Harris will join several other senior White House officials, including Keisha Lance Bottoms, senior adviser to the president for public engagement, Mitch Landrieu, senior adviser and infrastructure implementation coordinator, and Tara Murray, deputy director of the Office of Public Engagement. Breonna Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer, and George Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, will also be in attendance. The service is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET.
