4 killed, 8 injured in downtown Louisville bank mass shooting

A gunman opened fire at a bank in downtown Louisville on Monday, in a mass shooting that left four dead and wounded eight others — including two officers responding to the scene. Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said the shooter, described as a current or former employee of Old National Bank, was also killed not long after the 8:30 a.m. ET shooting unfolded at 333 E. Main St.

Deputy Chief Humphrey added that emergency personnel transported eight people to the University of Louisville Hospital, where one of the injured officers remained in critical condition from his injuries. He said the suspect, who has not been identified, “was still firing gunshots” when officers arrived on the scene when they allegedly started taking gunfire from the suspect.  Said Humphrey: “Ultimately that suspect did die at the scene. We’re trying to confirm if that suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or was killed by an officer … We are currently working to identify all of the victim. The investigation is ongoing. This will pretty much take into the night. There is no active threat. We believe this was a lone gunman that did have a connection with the bank.”

Humphrey said officers arrived at about 8:30 a.m., EDT, within three minutes of the initial call, and he believes that response saved more people from being injured or killed: “It is clear from the officers’ response that they absolutely saved people’s lives. It was a heroic response of officers that made sure that no more people were more seriously injured than what happened.”

Gov. Andy Beshear fought back tears and told reporters that two of the dead and one of the wounded were friends of his.  Said Beshear: “This is awful. I have a very close friend who didn’t make it today, and I have another close friend who didn’t either, and one who is at the hospital that I hope is going to make it through.”  Beshear later said on Twitter: “Today is a tragedy. Louisville and the entire commonwealth are mourning and we call on everyone to share the love, support and compassion this community desperately needs right now … A senseless act took the lives of our fellow Kentuckians, including friends of mine. What these families are experiencing is unimaginable. They need us to wrap our arms around them and to love them with all our hearts … Thank you to the heroic members of the LMPD and all of our first responders who undoubtedly saved lives while putting their own at risk. We are forever grateful. “

Old National Bank said in a statement posted to social media on Monday that members of its executive team, including CEO Jim Ryan had arrived at the site in response to the shooting: “The safety of Old National Bank employees and everyone we serve in our banking center locations is paramount. As we await more details, we are deploying employee assistance support and keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers.”

Minnesota Timberwolves suspend center Rudy Gobert after altercation with teammates

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert has been suspended for the team’s play-in game against the Lakers on Tuesday night. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, sources said that “Gobert will serve a one-game suspension and is expected to return if the Wolves lose to the Lakers and play another play-in game, or advance into the Western Conference playoffs.”

The incident that resulted in Gobert’s suspension occurred during Minnesota’s final regular-season game on Sunday. Gobert was caught on camera swinging at teammate Kyle Anderson on the bench during a timeout, right after Anderson apparently told Gobert to “shut the f— up, b—-” during an argument. Despite Gobert being sent to the locker room, at halftime the argument between the two continued – at which point Minnesota sent Gobert home from the arena.

After the game, Gobert apologized for his actions on Twitter:  “Emotions got the best of me today. I should not have reacted the way I did regardless of what was said. I wanna apologize to the fans, the organisation (sic), and particularly to Kyle, who is someone that I truly love and respect as a teammate.”

Minnesota earned the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference and will travel to Los Angeles for the start of the play-in tournament. If the Timberwolves win, they will play the Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs; however if they lose, Minnesota will have another play-in game this Friday night.

Pirates SS Oneil Cruz has surgery on fractured ankle, expected to miss 10-12 weeks

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz underwent surgery late Sunday night to repair his fractured left ankle and is expected to miss 10-12 weeks. Sources confirmed that ‘Cruz is expected to be out 10-12 weeks’ after he underwent surgery last night for his fractured left ankle, injured during a home plate collision Sunday.’

The 24-year-old Cruz was injured while sliding into home plate and collided with catcher White Sox catcher Seby Zavala, in the sixth inning of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Chicago. Benches cleared when Pirates designated hitter Carlos Santana took exception to Zavala screaming at Cruz about the late slide while he was on the ground, writhing in pain. Cruz was helped off the field by Pirates bench coach Don Kelly and physical therapist Seth Steinauer.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Cruz currently has a record of .250/.359/.375 with a double, a home run, four RBIs, seven runs scored and two stolen bases through the first nine games for the Pirates (6-3). The Pirates are expected to place Cruz on the 60-day injured list. Rodolfo Castro, who moved from second base to shortstop for the final two innings, is a candidate to replace Cruz in the starting lineup.

But boy (and girl!) was it worth it. Happy Easter! Posting from pure Heaven.”

The newborns (whose names have yet to be revealed) are the first children for Swank and Schneider, who tied the knot in 2018. According to Swank, the twins original due date was the same date as her late father Stephen Michael Swank’s birthday, who passed away in October 2021 at the age of 73. Swank was her late fathers caretaker for many years before his death, and wrote after his passing: “I had a rather unique relationship with him as I was his sole caretaker after a lung transplant seven years ago. Greta Van Fleet to drop third studio album ‘Starcatcher’

Greta Van Fleet has confirmed their third studio album, Starcatcher, will drop July 21st. Starcatcher is the follow-up to 2021’s The Battle At Garden’s Gate.

The album’s first single “Meeting The Master” is available now, and the band notes: “‘Meeting The Master’ peers into an esoteric world heeded by the word of a wise teacher. Sung in the voice of a devout believer, and eventual group exclamation, the song details the love these fervent followers have for their teacher and their firm belief in his vision. It’s an exotic spiritual journey. A dark comedy that inevitably ends in chaos.”

Greta Van Fleet’s headlining shows were initially postponed and rescheduled after singer Josh Kiszka suffered a ruptured eardrum while performing in October. The rescheduled dates kick offed March 6 in Jacksonville, Florida, and wrapped on March 28 in Sacramento, California. The band is now gearing up to serve as support for select shows on Metallica’s 2023-2024 world tour. For more info, head to the band’s official website.
