Sheeran told ACM host Garth Brooks that he’d first heard Luke’s music through a friend, and they ended up meeting in 2018, adding: “We’ve just been friends for years now, and it’s been great.” ‘Life Goes On”, inspired by the death of Ed’s best friend Jamal Edwards, original appeared on Ed’s new album, ‘Subtract’.  Said Luke: “I was super excited when Ed reached out to me. He sent this song and said he wanted to do it on the ACMs and then shortly after said he wanted to do a full-blown recorded version of it … I’ve been a fan of his for a long, long time. He’s an incredible singer and an incredible songwriter and we’ve been buddies for a couple years, so this is a dream come true.”

Jamie Foxx and daughter Corinne to host musical celebrity game show ‘We Are Family’

Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne Foxx are set to host the brand new game show ‘We Are Family’.  Jamie and Corinne Foxx said in a joint statement: “We are thrilled to be developing We Are Family with Jeff Apploff and our friends at Fox Entertainment after so much success with six seasons of Beat Shazam. We hope this show brings as much fun to audiences at home as we’ve had creating it when it premieres next year.”  This marks the second game show the father/daughter duo will host for Fox. They also cohost ‘Beat Shazam’, which returns for its sixth season on Tuesday, May 23.

We Are Family will see non-famous relatives of celebrities performing duets with their hidden famous family member while a studio audience comprised of 100 contestants plays through multiple rounds of clues and gameplay. Players can win up to $100,000 each by correctly guessing which celebrity the performer is related to before they are revealed. Celebrities appearing on We Are Family will range from actors and musicians to professional athletes and more. The series will be co-produced by Apploff Entertainment and Fox’s in-house unscripted studio, Fox Alternative Entertainment, which created the program. Jeff Apploff and Jamie Foxx will executive produce, with Matilda Zoltowski serving as showrunner and exec producer.

Jamie was recently hospitalized following a health scare while in Atlanta filming the Netflix movie Back in Action; at the time, Corinne announced in an Instagram post that her dad had “experienced a medical complication.” Last week, Corinne shared an update on her father’s health, addressing false rumors: “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support! We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!”

Supreme Court rejects challenge to Illinois assault weapons ban

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined to block a new law in Illinois that bans assault-style weapons such as the AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, which has been used in multiple mass shootings. The decision means the Illinois law enacted in the wake of the 4th of July shooting in the city of Highland Park last year that killed seven will remain in effect while the case continues.

A federal judge blocked the law in a separate case, but the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals put that decision on hold. The appeals court also expedited consideration of five different cases challenging the new law.  A local gun ordinance in Naperville, Illinois, that bars assault-style weapons will also remain in effect as a result of the Supreme Court action.  Enacted in January, the state law bans what the state defines as “assault weapons,” including the AR-15 rifle, as well as large capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition for a long gun or more than 15 rounds of ammunition for handguns. The law does not ban any handguns and it does not affect people who already own the firearms covered by the ban.

A spokeswoman for Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said “communities in Illinois will continue to benefit from this important public safety measure” as litigation moves forward. Illinois is one of 10 states that has a ban on what gun control advocates call assault weapons, several of which have been enacted in the last year.

Grand jury indicts Bryan Kohberger, suspect in Idaho college student murders

A grand jury has indicted Bryan Kohberger, the 28-year-old suspect in the stabbing murders of four Idaho college students in November 2022. The Latah County district clerk and an Idaho Supreme Court spokesperson confirmed a multicount indictment against Kohberger; later, a spokesperson for the State of Idaho Judicial Branch confirmed that Kohberger faces four counts of first-degree murder and felony burglary for his alleged involvement in the killings.

The indictment allows prosecutors to bypass a week-long preliminary hearing that was scheduled to start on June 26. Prosecutors originally set the preliminary hearing for Kohberger after his arrest in December on four counts of first-degree murder and burglary; however, prosecutors later opted to impanel a grand jury, bypassing a hearing that could have publicly revealed their evidence against Kohberger.

Kohberger was arrested at his parents’ home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania six weeks after the stabbing deaths of Madison Mogen and her friend Kaylee Goncalves, both 21, and Xana Kernodle and her boyfriend Ethan Chapin, both 20, at their King Road residence. He was extradited to Idaho and is currently being held in the Latah County Jail without bond, according to jail records. Kohberger has yet to enter a plea and he is waiting to learn whether prosecutors in the high-profile case will pursue the death penalty.

The Idaho court spokesperson said that a district court arraignment hearing for Kohberger is set for Monday morning.
