Asking Alexandria drops two new songs, ‘Psycho’ and ‘Bad Blood’

Asking Alexandria have dropped two new songs from their forthcoming album ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ which is set for release later this year.

“Dark Void”, the debut track from Where Do We Go From Here, was released in May and has already amassed five million streams and one million video views to date. Now the band has shared the album’s first official radio single “Psycho,” along with the track “Bad Blood” available for streaming across digital platforms.

Speaking about ‘Psycho,’ guitarist Ben Bruce said: “‘Psycho’ is one of those songs that is talking about when you feel trapped inside your own head, trapped by your own vices and your own downfalls. Whether it’s being stuck in a relationship that doesn’t work for you, or feeling like you can’t stop drinking or doing drugs, or maybe you’re stuck in a job that you hate, and you’re just battling yourself in your own head wondering ‘why am I still here? Why do I keep doing these things?’. Ultimately, at the end of the day we all feel a little bit crazy…a little bit like a Psycho. It’s just a fun song that we can all relate to, and stylistically we thought to ourselves ‘how do we make a song that sounds like it could live on the ‘Like A House On Fire’ album, but also like it could live on the ‘From Death to Destiny’ album?’. So musically, from a writing standpoint, it was a really enjoyable experience to meld those two eras of Asking Alexandria together and see what that might look like.”

Hunter Biden to plead guilty to federal tax charges following investigation

According to a Justice Department filing, Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, has reached a tentative deal with the U.S. attorney in Delaware, agreeing to enter guilty pleas to two misdemeanor tax charges and admitting to felony gun possession. A federal judge in Delaware must approve the deal, and Biden will now face arraignment in U.S. District Court in Wilmington. He is expected to give himself up to Delaware authorities and will be processed by U.S. Marshals. It’s the first time the Justice Department has brought charges against a child of a sitting president.

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss’ office said Biden faced misdemeanor charges for failing to pay federal income taxes in 2017 and 2018 despite owing more than $100,000 in taxes in each year. It also said Hunter Biden possessed a firearm in October 2018 despite “knowing he was an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance,” a charge for which he has agreed to enter a pretrial diversion agreement to avoid prosecution.

Chris Clark, an attorney for Hunter Biden, said that his “expectation, at least with regard to after that proceeding, is that he [Biden] will be released without conditions … it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved.” Clark added: “Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement. A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government. I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”

A statement from a White House spokesman said, “The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment.” Later at an event in California on Tuesday afternoon, President Biden responded to questions about Hunter Biden by saying, “I am very proud of my son.”

4 dead, 2 critically injured after lithium-ion battery causes fire in NYC e-bike shop

Authorities say that four people were killed and two others remain in critical condition after a fire caused by a lithium-ion battery broke out in an e-bike repair shop and tore through a New York City building overnight. The New York City Fire Department responded to the fire at 80 Madison Street at around 12:15 a.m. local time. The FDNY said in a statement on Twitter that the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery on the first floor of the store.

New York City Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said that firefighters pulled six residents from the building in critical condition, though four have since died. One firefighter also suffered minor injuries. Kavanagh said at a press briefing Tuesday: “It is very clear that this was caused by lithium-ion batteries and e-bikes,” and added that the fire department has written violations at the location — HQ E-Bike Repair — before: “we have conducted enforcement in this location before. This exact scenario where there’s an e-bike store on the first floor and residences above and the volume of fire created by these lithium-ion batteries is incredibly deadly.”

Toronto Raptors’ Gary Trent Jr. to exercise $18.5M player option

According to a tweet from TNT’s Chris Haynes, Toronto Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. will opt into his $18.5 million player option for the 2023-24 season. Haynes also reported that the 24-year-old Minnesota native is committed to negotiating a long-term deal that benefits both sides.

Trent Jr. had until Tuesday to decide whether he was going to pick up his player option or become an unrestricted free agent. He was expected to command north of $20 million in free agency, due in part to being one of the preeminent three-and-D players on the market. Fred VanVleet opted out of his $22.8 million player option for next season, and is expected to command over $30 million a year on his next deal; and the Raptors are hoping to sign Jakob Poeltl as well after acquiring him at the trade deadline from the San Antonio Spurs.

Trent Jr. averaged 17.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game in 66 games this past season. He has been with Toronto since 2021 after he was acquired from the Portland Trailblazers in exchange for Norman Powell.

MLB honoring Willie Mays with 2024 game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham

Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday morning that they will honor Hall of Fame center fielder Willie Mays with a special game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham in 2024.  The historic game will take place on June 20, 2024, and will feature the Giants (for whom Mays played from 1951–52 and 1954 to ’72), and the Cardinals. It will also coincide with Juneteenth celebrations, and in addition to honoring Mays, the game be the first in MLB history to be played in Alabama.

The 92-year-old Mays said in the press release: “I can’t believe it. I never thought I’d see in my lifetime a Major League Baseball game being played on the very field where I played baseball as a teenager. It has been 75 years since I played for the Birmingham Black Barons at Rickwood Field, and to learn that my Giants and the Cardinals will play a game there and honor the legacy of the Negro Leagues and all those who came before them is really emotional for me. We can’t forget what got us here and that was the Negro Leagues for so many of us.”

Rickwood Field is the oldest professional ballpark in the United States, having been constructed for the Birmingham Barons of the Southern Association in 1910. The historic venue was also home to the Negro Leagues’ Birmingham Black Barons for decades. A native of Westfield, Alabama, Mays was one of four Hall of Famers to spend time with the Black Barons, along with pitcher Satchel Paige, first baseman Mule Suttles and shortstop Willie Wells. The Barons, who are still active in the Southern League as the White Sox’s longtime Double-A affiliate. will play the Montgomery Biscuits at Rickwood Field two days before the big-league game.

Garth Brooks releases new song “Only Country Music”

Garth Brooks released his new song “Only Country Music,” launched on his new TuneIn radio station, The Big 615. The song was written by Brooks and Nashville songwriters Ashley Gorley and Matt Rossi.

Brooks says Only Country Music was just recently recorded: “In the middle of [beta testing the channel] as recently as three weeks ago, came an idea from Ashely Gorley sitting right down with Matt Rossi, and he says, ‘I want to write a song that just if you’re looking for something, hey, that’s only country music … And he just started in and the first thing — he’s sitting right there on the couch 50 feet away from where we’re sitting, and he goes, ‘Where else can you say Jesus and Jack Daniels in one line?’ I said, ‘I’m in.’ So it’s really good, man, and only country music. I really enjoyed — I think the track’s screaming. It’s a lot of fun… When you hear it, you go, ‘Okay, that’s what it is. It’s country music.’ So I love it!’”

Brooks described the song as feeling “traditional Garth” and features vocals from wife Trisha Yearwood: “We had her [Tricia] doing both harmonies here because it was too high for me. I’m playing Vegas and I’m going, ‘You know what? Just get your ass back in the studio and reach those notes. Get after it.’ And so I came back in and now it feels more like the traditional Garth thing with her and I.”

Morgan Wallen’s 2-year-old son Indigo receives stitches after dog attack

Morgan Wallen’s 2-year-old son, Indigo “Indie” Wilder Wallen, was rushed to the emergency room and is now recovering after being bitten by a dog that belongs to his mother (and Wallen’s ex-fiancée) KT Smith. Wallen and Smith welcomed Indie into the world on July 10, 2020, and have shared co-parenting duties.

Smith took to Instagram stories to share that Indigo sustained injuries and received stitches after the attack, posting a tearful video message her dog Legend, a Great Pyrenees, was involved in the incident with Indie on Father’s Day: “Yesterday, he bit Indigo in the face and [he] had to have stitches and we spent yesterday morning at the emergency room …. Since then we have been looking for options and I just couldn’t bring myself to what everyone else says and what you’re supposed to do, apparently…what the world tells you to do is to put the dog down because they are aggressive and I’ve gone back and forth with that and I knew in my heart that he does not deserve that because he is wonderful and could do really great with a family who doesn’t have small children and maybe just has like a lot of land and just won’t be like crawled over and stuff like that. I don’t want him to go to a kill shelter or nothing like that and shelters are full.”

Smith added that her rescue dog dealt with trauma in the past which may have led to the aggressive behavior, but was desperately looking for other solutions and asked followers for help via her social media. A few hours later, she provided fans with an update and was able to give Legend to a loving family: “We just dropped legend off with the sweetest family where he will be living out his full potential and best life on a farm. I couldn’t have asked for a better family for him to be loved on by, and they’re East Tennesseans, so we can visit any time we need to.”
