Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Expected to Land Contract Extension

Even with talks early on in the offseason about Dak Prescott landing a new contract extension, The Dallas Cowboys still have not worked out a new contract with their franchise quarterback. According to reported there isn’t a solid reason why Dak should not receive a new deal. Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones states that he is working on a plan to extend Dak Prescott but wants to focus on extensions players on rookie contract first, which kicked off with CB Trevor Diggs landing a 5 year $97 million contract extension recently.

Even though Dak threw a huge amount of interception last season, he is still one of the best quarterback in the NFL. Dak Prescott has a 61-36 career record and led his team to 4 playoffs games in the last 7 years. Dallas have Dak signed through the upcoming 2024 season and there are no signs why they wont get a deal done soon.

3 dead in midair helicopter collision while firefighting in California

Fire officials confirmed that a firefighting helicopter crashed after it collided with a second helicopter while battling a blaze in Southern California, killing all three crew members. The victims have been identified as Division Chief Josh Bischof, Capt. Tim Rodriguez and pilot Tony Sousa, Cal Fire said. Sousa was a contracted pilot and not a Cal Fire employee.

Cal Fire Southern Region Chief David Fulcher said that the crash occurred after Riverside County firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire in Cabazon at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, and Cal Fire helicopters and planes were called in to help extinguish the blaze.  Fulcher said at a news conference: “While engaged in the firefight, two helicopters collided. The first helicopter was able to land safely nearby. Unfortunately, the second helicopter crashed and, tragically, all three members perished.”

Both helicopters were contracted by Cal Fire and arrived at the scene with different objectives. The helicopter which was able to safely land was a Sikorsky Skycrane, a type that carries retardant or water that’s dropped on a blaze, Fulcher said. The one that crashed was a Bell helicopter, used for observation while fighting fires. The crash caused an additional four-acre fire, which was then extinguished, Fulcher said.

Fulcher said that the cause of the collision was still under investigation, with the National Transportation Safety Board investigating the crash.  California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a post on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, that his office was in “close coordination” with CalFire after the helicopter crash.

Former Minneapolis officer sentenced to nearly 5 years for role in George Floyd’s death

The last former Minneapolis police officer convicted in state court for his role in the killing of George Floyd was sentenced Monday to a 57-month sentence — the equivalent of 4 years and 9 months. Floyd’s killing touched off protests worldwide and forced a national reckoning of police brutality and racism.

Tou Thao had testified that he merely served as a “human traffic cone” when he held back bystanders who gathered as former Officer Derek Chauvin, who is white, knelt on Floyd’s neck for 9 1/2 minutes while the Black man pleaded for his life on May 25, 2020. A bystander video captured Floyd’s fading cries of “I can’t breathe.”

Thao had rejected a plea bargain on the state charge, saying “it would be lying” to plead guilty when he didn’t think he was in the wrong. He instead agreed to let a judge decide the case based on evidence from Chauvin’s 2021 murder trial and the federal civil rights trial in 2022 of Thao and former Officers Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng.

In his 177-page ruling, Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill found Thao guilty in May of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. Cahill said Thao’s actions separated Chauvin and two other former officers from the crowd, including an emergency medical technician, allowing his colleagues to continue restraining Floyd and preventing bystanders from providing medical aid. He wrote: “There is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Thao’s actions were objectively unreasonable from the perspective of a reasonable police officer, when viewed under the totality of the circumstances … Thao’s actions were even more unreasonable in light of the fact that he was under a duty to intervene to stop the other officers’ excessive use of force and was trained to render medical aid.”

The sentence Judge Cahill handed down Monday will run concurrently with Thao’s 3 1/2-year sentence on his separate conviction on a federal civil rights charge. His state sentence was more than the 4 years recommended under Minnesota state guidelines.

Houston Texans to start rookie QB C.J. Stroud in preseason opener vs. Patriots

The Houston Texans will start rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud in their first preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday.

According to NFL Network, Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said that the No. 2 pick would start over quarterback Davis Mills, who were in a quarterback competition throughout most of training camp. Recently, however, Ryans gave Stroud all the first-team reps for three straight practices.

Ryans has high praise for how Stroud has transitioned to the team: “With C.J., what I’ve seen is he’s definitely made adjustments. He’s getting the ball out quick, he’s making the proper reads.” Ryans added: “Right now, as I see it, guys going out, hopefully getting a couple of series depending on how it goes. [Stroud] will go out there as well. Most of our guys will get work.”

Star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil said of Stroud that he “handles himself well” and has great leadership skills: “How I describe C.J.: dawg. He’s a straight dawg. He comes in there ready to work, he handles the huddle perfectly and he goes out there and balls, man. You’ve got to appreciate that, especially in a young quarterback like C.J.”

Mitchell Tenpenny drop his latest song ‘Bigger Mistakes’

Mitchell Tenpenny has dropped his latest song, “Bigger Mistakes,” across all digital platforms. The track — written by Mitchell, Chris DeStefano, Josh Kear and Michael Whitworth — comes along with an official music video, filmed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and directed by Zach Pigg.

Mitchell says. of the song: “I’ve always loved Carly Simon’s ‘You’re So Vain’ because of the line ‘you’re so vain you probably think this song is about you.’ That line just cuts to the core. Some people like to think the world revolves around them and I wanted to write a song that was a reminder that isn’t the case. ‘Bigger Mistakes’ is about realizing that there are bigger and more important things in life than a breakup. The song is a reminder that you’ve gone through harder times and the future can be bright.”

Mitchell is currently on the road in support of Jason Aldean on his Highway Desperado Tour, with dates running through October 28th.

Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs make Billboard Hot 100 history

Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs have made Billboard history with their latest singles.

According to Billboard, Aldean’s “Try That In a Small Town” tops the chart, with Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” and Luke Combs’ “Fast Car” in the second and third spots, respectively. It’s the first time in the chart’s 65-year history that the top three spots are country artists/songs,

Aldean’s song — written by Kelley Lovelace, Neil Thrasher, Tully Kennedy and Kurt Michael Allison — was originally released in May, but began ascending to the top last month after its video attracted controversy.

In late June, Wallen and Combs had made history on the charts with their respective singles reaching the top two spots. That feat marked the first time in 42 years country hits reached the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100, following Eddie Rabbit and Dolly Parton in 1981.
