The Black Crowes announce ‘Southern Harmony’ deluxe box set

The Black Crowes have announced a deluxe reissue of their second album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, featuring unreleased studio recordings, rare B-sides and a live performance from 1993 at Houston’s Sam Houston Coliseum.

The band posted on Instagram: “We revisited the archives alongside our friend George Drakoulias and created an incredibly special, super deluxe edition of our sophomore album featuring unreleased studio recordings, rare B-sides, a live performance from Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, TX on February 6, 1993, and a newly remastered album from the original 1/4” production master. Super deluxe 4LP and 3CD box sets include a reproduction of the original 132-page promotional hymn book featuring insights on the record and a set of lithographs of classic images from the Southern Harmony photo sessions.”

The The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion collection is set for release on Dec. 1 and is available to preorder now in a variety of formats, including “super deluxe” four-LP and three-CD box sets. These editions will also include a reproduction of the album’s original 132-page promotional hymnal containing the band’s insights about the album and a set of lithographs of photos taken during the album sessions.

John Legend, Jennifer Hudson Dan + Shay to headline Shaquille O’Neal Foundation gala in Las Vegas

John Legend, Dan + Shay, Jennifer Hudson, Anderson .Paak and Ray Romano will be among the celebrities headlining the annual fundraising gala for Shaquille O’Neal Foundation. The foundation announced the lineup for ‘The Event,’ which will be held on Oct. 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Hosted by comedian and actor Joel McHale, The Event is a major fundraiser for the Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, which partners with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Communities in Schools to support underserved youth. The Event has raised more than $6 million, helping build new youth athletic courts and fields and supporting the annual Shaq-a-Claus holiday program.

O’Neal said in a news release: “We raised the bar last year, and The Third Event promises to do the same. I’m so grateful to our entertainers who are once again donating their time. I know they will create a night of incredible music and comedy in a true testament to the power of unity to make a difference in kids’ lives.” This year’s proceeds will help build a new joint facility in Las Vegas for a Boys & Girls Club and a Communities in Schools alumni center.

Miley Cyrus opens up about divorce from Liam Hemsworth in ‘Used to Be Young’ TikTok series

Miley Cyrus said that her new TikTok video series, inspired by her latest single “Used to Be Young,” will be “looking back on my life and sharing untold stories.” In an Instagram post, the 30-year-old Cyrus revealed the new TikTok series will “start at the beginning” of her story in 1992, and trace the course of her three decades of life, including offering new details about some of her most memorable moments.

Cyrus wrote in the post’s caption: “Sometimes it feels like my life started when Hannah Montana was born. But before Hannah there was Miley. My fantasy was to light up the world with laughter, music & iconic moments that last beyond my lifetime. Decades later I continue to fulfill my purpose because of the love provided by my fans.” She urges fans to “follow along on my TikTok page” to catch new updates in the series.

In the first clip posted on TikTok, Cyrus said, “I am going to start at the beginning of my life in 1992 until now in 2023 and we’re gonna go through the last 30 years. I got nowhere to be, b—-.”  And in the most recent clip (Part 37) posted on Sept. 6, Miley discusses the dissolution of her marriage to actor Liam Hemsworth. Cyrus and Hemsworth met while filming her movie The Last Song in 2010 and got married in 2018, splitting in August 2019 after less than one year as man and wife. Miley revealed that their decision to marry was “me and Liam’s commitment to being married, just really… came from of course a place of love first because we’d been together for 10 years. Cyrus later shared the moments when she decided that the marriage “was no longer going to work in my life,” saying: “That was another moment when the work, the performance, the character came first … the human comes first.”

School districts close in Pennsylvania as manhunt for escaped killer widens

The Pennsylvania manhunt for convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante was widened, while local schools in the area were shut down on Tuesday after the suspect was spotted on trail camera footage breaking past a police perimeter.

The 34-year-old Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, and during the six-day search to locate him, multiple sightings have been reported with law enforcement setting up a two-mile perimeter around a wooded area where he was believed to be holed up. Officials later broadcast a message from the killer’s mother, who urged her son to surrender.

In an update on Tuesday, police said that Cavalcante had been caught on camera managing to sneak past the perimeter the night before. As a result, police expanded the police perimeter and shuttered the Kennett Consolidated School District in Chester Count out of abundance of caution. George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations for the Pennsylvania State Police, said during a news conference Tuesday: “You’re dealing with someone who is desperate and doesn’t want to be caught. If he can find some shelter, if he can find some food, he’s going to take advantage of whatever he finds … He’s a bad guy. He needs to be in custody and we are determined to capture him.”

Cavalcante was sentenced to life without parole for stabbing his ex-girlfriend Deborah Brandão, 31, to death in front of her two small children. Cavalcante is also wanted for a 2017 murder in Brazil. Authorities haven’t disclosed how Cavalcante managed to escape, but said it occurred while he was awaiting transfer to state prison. Members of the public have been urged to secure their homes, outbuildings and vehicles while the suspect remains at large.

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio sentenced to 22 years for part in Jan. 6 attack

Enrique Tarrio, the former chairman of Proud Boys, was sentenced on Tuesday to 22 years in prison – the longest prison sentence handed down for any individual charged in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol. Prosecutors had recommended a sentence of 33 years in prison, despite the fact that Tarrio wasn’t present in Washington on the day of the attack.

Henry “Enrique” Tarrio has been in jail since his 2022 arrest and was convicted earlier this year by a Washington, D.C. jury on multiple charges including seditious conspiracy. Tarrio’s co-defendant Ethan Nordean was sentenced last week to 18 years, while others received terms of between 10 and 17 years. Prosecutors described Tarrio as the “primary organizer” of the conspiracy for which he and his co-defendants were convicted, who used his influence “to condone and promote violence” in others, adding, “He was a general rather than a soldier.”

After the 2020 presidential election, according to evidence presented at trial, Tarrio began posting on social media and in message groups about a “civil war,” later threatening, “No Trump…No peace. No Quarter.” And as Jan. 6 approached, he posted about “revolt.” His co-defendants — Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl and Dominic Pezzola — gathered with other Proud Boys members on the day of the riot and marched toward the Capitol, interfering with police and ultimately forcing entry into the building where Congress was attempting to certify President Biden’s victory.  The Proud Boys defendants and the group they led to the Capitol that day were a “tidal wave of force” at the start of the attack and played a “pivotal” role in the violence on Jan. 6, according to prosecutors.

Tarrio asked for leniency during Tuesday’s hearing. apologizing for the events of Jan. 6 and to law enforcement and Washington, D.C., residents. Said Tarrio: “The citizens of D.C. deserve better. What happened on Jan. 6 was a national embarrassment … To the men and women of law enforcement who answered the call that day, I am sorry. I am not a political zealot. Inflicting harm or changing the results of the election was not my goal. Please show me mercy.”

Coco Gauff defeats Jelena Ostapenko to reach her first US Open semifinals

World No. 6 Coco Gauff defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets on Tuesday with a 6-0 6-2 victory in the 2023 U.S. Open quarterfinals, advancing the 19-year-old to the semifinals for the first time. ESPN Stats & Info tweeted that Gauff is the first American teenager to reach the U.S. Open semifinals since Serena Williams did so in 2001.

Gauff said in her on-court interview after the win: “I’m so happy. Last year I lost in the quarterfinals. I’m happy and ready to get back to work on the next one.”  She added: “Honestly, I didn’t feel comfortable at all during the match – even on the match points. I know the game [Ostapenko] plays. She has the ability to come back no matter the scoreline, so I was just trying to get every point, put every ball in. It’s really tough against her because you can’t really be aggressive, so I was trying my best to be aggressive when I could, and most of the time I was just trying to get the ball deep. She’s a tough player and she had a great tournament.”

Gauff is seeking her first Grand Slam title; she reached the quarterfinals at the French Open before losing to No. 1 seed Iga Świątek in straight sets.  Her previous best finish at the U.S. Open was a quarterfinal appearance last year, before falling in straight sets to Caroline Garcia.

Gauff is also chasing a doubles title with partner Jessica Pegula. They will take on Su-Wei Hsieh and Wang Xinyu in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The last player to win a singles and doubles title in the same year was Serena Williams in 1999 at the age of 18.

Gauff will face either Sorana Cîrstea, or this year’s French Open runner-up Karolína Muchová, in the next round.

Spain women’s soccer coach fired amid fallout of president kissing player at World Cup

Spain’s women’s soccer coach Jorge Vilda has been fired amid the fallout over the unwanted kiss on the lips that soccer chief Luis Rubiales gave a player at the Women’s World Cup final.  The firing was announced by Pedro Rocha, who is serving as interim president amid Luis Rubiales’ hiatus. The move comes as part of a shake-up in Spanish soccer ever since Rubiales, the president of the country’s soccer federation (RFEF), forcibly kissed forward Jennifer Hermoso on August 20th.

Rubiales apologized for his actions, describing the kiss as “mutual”; however, Hermoso denied his claims. Rubiales was given a 90-day suspension by FIFA while disciplinary proceedings are underway. In a statement, Rocha issued an apology and criticized Rubiales for “totally unacceptable behavior … The damage caused to Spanish football, Spanish sport, Spanish society and to the set of values of soccer and sport has been enormous. The [federation] wants to transmit, to the whole of society and to the whole of football world, its greatest regret for what happened, which has tarnished our team, our football and our society.”

Vilda had been the women’s national team coach since 2015. RFEF said in a statement regarding Villa’s firing that aid he was “key to the notable growth of women’s football and leaves Spain as world champions and second in the FIFA rankings,” adding that  “RFEF appreciates his work at the head of the national team and his responsibilities as the maximum sporting figure of the women’s national teams, as well as the successes reaped during his term, crowned with the recent achievement of the World Cup.” Vilda was praised for his “impeccable personal and sporting conduct” and as a “key part of the notable growth of women’s football in Spain,” describing him as “a promoter of the values of respect and sportsmanship in football.” Vilda, who previously coached Spain’s under-17 and under-19 women’s teams, led La Roja to a first Women’s World Cup title last month with a 1-0 victory against England in the final.

The federation described the move as “one of the first measures of restructuring announced by (interim) President Pedro Rocha.” RFEF also announced Vilda would be replaced by his deputy, Montse Tomé, making her the first woman in charge of the women’s national team. Her debut match will come on September 22 against Sweden.

Zac Brown Band previews new live album with cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Zac Brown Band‘s upcoming live album, ‘From the Road, Vol. 1: Covers’ will feature renditions of songs made famous by other artists, which ZBB have performed live in concert over the course of their 20-year long career.

In anticipation of the album, ZBB released the first track from the compilation, their rendition of Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The band’s take on the classic hit was recorded during their 2015 set at SSE Arena in London. Brown says in a statement: “‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is one of the craziest song arrangements, Freddie Mercury was a mad genius. It took us about a year of working on it off and on to come up with a version that sounds like it. To pull that song off live is a testament to the ninjas in my band. It’s one of my favorite covers to do live, and getting to play it at Wembley was a huge moment for us.”

The full track list and release date for From the Road, Vol. 1: Covers have not yet been revealed, but some of their recent set lists have included covers of “Adore You” by Harry Styles, Alabama’s “Mountain Music,” and Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Zac Brown Band’s headlining From the Fire Tour is still going strong, and will stop at select U.S. cities, including Tampa, Baltimore, and Denver, before wrapping up in early November. Dates and additional ticketing information can be found on the band’s official website.

Brian Kelley shares his new song “Dirt Cheap”

Brian Kelley has shared his latest release, “Dirt Cheap,” written by Seth Ennis, Wyatt McCubbin, and Andy Sheridan.

Said Kelley of the song: “The moment I heard ‘Dirt Cheap’ I knew I had to record it. It reminded me of some of my favorite Country songs growing up that really pull at your heartstrings. As much as I love the beach, I love the country too. This song matches and meets me where I’m at in life currently. I’m working hard, so in love with my wife Brittney, and always keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect ‘Dirt Cheap’ property of our own. I am so thankful this song landed in my world, and I hope it resonates with those who hear it just like it did with me.”

“Dirt Cheap” arrives in anticipation of Kelley’s next full-length solo album, the follow-up to Kelley’s 2021 solo album Sunshine State Of Mind. His current single, “See You Next Summer” is currently climbing the charts, and Kelly shared of that song: “When I first heard it, I was smiling the whole way through. I’ve lived this song. It was striking chords all over my body, I felt it in my soul.”
