See Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White in the trailer for “The Iron Claw”

A24 has released the first trailer for The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White. The Iron Claw is the highly anticipated drama about the legendary wrestling Von Erich family. Directed and written by Sean Durkin, the film chronicles how the Von Erich brothers rose to fame in the competitive world of pro wrestling, but faced tragedy inside and outside the ring.

Five of the six Von Erich brothers pursued professional wrestling: the eldest brother Jack died in a childhood accident and Efron stars as the oldest surviving brother, Kevin, with White portraying Kerry Von Erich. Each of the Von Erich brothers found fame as they pursued pro wrestling, but their lives were also marked by tragedy, sparking rumors that the family was afflicted by the “Von Erich curse.” Efron’s Kevin says in the trailer: “Ever since I was a child, people said my family was cursed. Mom tried to protect us with God. Pop tried to protect us with wrestling. He said if we were the toughest, strongest, nothing would ever hurt us. I believed it. We all did.”

The cast also includes Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, and Stanley Simons as Mike Von Erich, and Lily James as Kevin’s wife, Pam. Maura Tierney plays the boys’ mother Doris, while Holt McCallany appears as their father Fritz, who built his own wrestling career in the 1960s and pushed his sons to follow in his footsteps. The elder Von Erich popularized the family’s signature move: ‘The Iron Claw,’ where a wrestler grips his opponent’s face and squeezes with all five fingers.

The Iron Claw hits theaters Dec. 22; watch the trailer – here.

Wolfgang Van Halen marries longtime girlfriend, Andraia Allsop

Wolfgang Van Halen and his fiancée Andraia Allsop are married. The 32-year-old frontman of Mammoth WVH (and son of the late Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli) exchanged vows with Allsop, a software engineer and photographer, at their Los Angeles home in front of 90 guests.

The ceremony included several touches that honored loved ones, including Van Halen’s late father.
Wolfgang walked down the aisle with his mom to an instrumental song that his father wrote for him, titled “316,” telling People magazine: “It’ll be a nice way to include my dad.” After exchanging wedding vows in their living room, the couple hosted a reception in their backyard. Said Allsop: “Our goal was just to bring all of our closest family and friends together. The past few years, not only with the world, but also with personal tragedies, haven’t been the easiest, but we wanted to create this wedding as a celebration not only just for us to get married, but a celebration for the people we love.”.

The couple reserved an empty chair at the ceremony in honor of the late Van Halen, and Allsop wore a necklace Eddie Van Halen once gifted to Bertinelli, who lent her the piece for the occasion. Bertinelli said: “Ed would’ve been absolutely beaming and so, so proud of the man Wolfie has become and is becoming and so happy that he has found Andraia, someone who really understands Wolfie, who he is and who he wants to be and supports him wholeheartedly.”

Van Halen and Allsop were engaged last July after seven years of dating, and their wedding day marked their eight-year anniversary.

Coldplay files $17M countersuit against former manager

Coldplay is countersuing their former manager, Dave Holmes, for $17 million in damages. Variety revealed in August that Holmes had filed a lawsuit in London’s High Court against the band for over $12 million worth of unpaid commission related to their tenth and eleventh (unreleased) studio albums.

Holmes managed Coldplay for over 20 years before they parted ways last year. Preceding Holmes’ lawsuit, Coldplay had threatened in legal letters to file a “significant counterclaim” along with any defense. Coldplay accusing Holmes of allowing their ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour to spiral out of control, citing $10 million spent on bespoke stage pylons that were unusable and a screen that was too big. The countersuit also claims that Holmes borrowed $20 million from tour promoter Live Nation which he used to fund a property development in Canada.

A rep for Holmes told The Sunday Times: “Coldplay know they are in trouble with their defense. Accusing Dave Holmes of non-existent ethical lapses and other made-up misconduct will not deflect from the real issue at hand — Coldplay had a contract with Dave, they are refusing to honour it and they need to pay Dave what they owe him.”

Rep. Jim Jordan falls short in first round of voting for House speaker

GOP Rep. Jim Jordan fell short in the first round of voting for House Speaker on Tuesday, leaving the lower chamber without a leader for at least another day after failing to secure the support needed. In a statement Monday, Jordan said he desired to “bring all Republicans together … our goal will be to empower our committees and committee chairs to take the lead on the House’s legislative work through regular order. This will bring us together to pass responsible legislation to fund our government and support our military.”

Jordan lost the support of 20 of his fellow Republicans in Tuesday’s election, winning just 200 votes and falling short of the 217 needed to prevail. Six Republicans voted for former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted on Oct. 3. Several others voted for Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who withdrew his name from consideration last week, and former Rep. Lee Zeldin, a Trump ally who didn’t run for reelection in 2022 when he ran for governor in New York. Democrats nominated Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who received 212 votes.

Jordan won an internal GOP contest for the nomination after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise bowed out of the race, but he faces an uphill battle in securing the 217 votes needed to win the gavel. Jordan told reporters at the Capitol that the next vote would take place Wednesday morning around 11 a.m. and said he had “good discussions” with his Republican colleagues: “We’re going to keep working, and we’re going to get to the votes.” Jordan said earlier that voting would continue “until we get a speaker,” and had hoped to wrap up the process by the end of the day to avoid a marathon of votes like those required to elect McCarthy in January, which took 15 rounds of voting over four days before he was finally elected.
