MLB announces new rule changes to take effect in 2024 Season

On Thursday, Major League Baseball’s competition committee voted to approve a series of rule changes for 2024, including a shorter pitch clock, a wider lane for runners going to first base, and more rules affecting pitchers.  The Competition Committee, which was created as part of a 2022 collective bargaining agreement, is comprised of six owners, four players, and an umpire.

The league announced updates including subtraction of two seconds from the pitch clock when there are men on base (cutting the time from 20 to 18 seconds), nothing that nothing will change for scenarios in which the bases are empty, as pitchers will still have 15 seconds to begin their delivery. John Stanton, Chairman of the Competition Committee and Chairman of the Seattle Mariners said:  “From its inception, the joint Competition Committee’s constructive conversations between players, umpires and owners have produced rules that significantly improved the game for fans. These modifications will improve on last year’s work by the Competition Committee, which was a resounding success with our fans and for the sport.”

Other changes coming in 2024 include those to the runner’s lane (the space a player is allotted to run to first base), which will be widened in the upcoming season, expanding to include the dirt area between the foul line and the grass on the infield. Widening the lane is intended to allow batters “a more direct path to first base,” according to the MLB, and also aims to limit interference in gameplay.

The committee is implementing additional 2024 pitching changes that will continue to increase the pacing. The pitch clock will restart after a “dead ball” — meaning a ball that is out of play, such as a foul ball — when the pitcher gets the ball, when previously, the clock only began when the pitcher had reached the mound. Visits to the pitcher’s mound will be reduced from five to four per game, with an extra mound visit awarded in the ninth inning if the defensive team has zero remaining at the end of the eighth inning.

Steelers rule out QB Kenny Pickett, will start Mason Rudolph in Saturday game vs. Bengals

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has ruled out quarterback Kenny Pickett against the Bengals on Saturday, and officially named Mason Rudolph as the starter. Pickett, who underwent “TightRope” surgery on his right ankle less than three weeks ago, returned to practice this week with limited participation. On Monday, Tomlin said that the door was “ajar” for Pickett to play against Cincinnati, but after Thursday’s practice he ultimately ruled out the second-year quarterback.

Tomlin also announced that Mitch Trubisky, who started each of Pittsburgh’s past two games in place of the injured Pickett, would serve as Rudolph’s backup Saturday against Cincinnati. Rudolph said that his teammates were “excited for me” and added that he was excited to “put my hand in the pile and go fight for a victory.”

Rudolph has not started a game since the 2021 season; he last started in Week 10 of the 2021 season against the Lions, when he passed for 242 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 16-16 tie.

“Unplugged For Nashville” charity event raises over $70,000

Some of Nashville’s most popular artists took the stage at the charity event “Unplugged for Tennessee”, held to raise proceeds for local charities working to assist communities following the devastation after tornadoes hit middle Tennessee on Dec. 9th. The tornadoes killed six people and injuring 83 others, with many businesses and homes left destroyed or significantly damaged.

“Unplugged for Tennessee” featured country artists HARDY, Nate Smith, Alana Springsteen, Dylan Marlowe, Chayce Beckham, Abby Anderson, Trey Lewis, Graham Barham, Payton Smith, Jay Allen and more, and gave 100% of the event’s proceeds to charities such as the Red Cross and Hands On Nashville, who are helping to lead the disaster response initiatives. According to an Instagram post from the show’s host, Genji Chord, the evening raised over $70,000 for tornado relief.

Media Farm Agency Founder Matt Wilson shared how his team was able to organize the event just days after the tornadoes affected the area: “This benefit came together extremely fast, thanks to the help of our team and our great friends that wanted to make a difference in the lives of those impacted by the storm. We are so thankful for the artists who volunteered so quickly to help and donate their time and talent for such a worthy cause. Being prepared is key when something like this happens, so we chose to benefit Hands on Nashville and The American Red Cross, who are leaders in disaster response in Middle Tennessee.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm will officially end with Season 12 on HBO.

Said David: “As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. Smoove as his roommate; Richard Lewis as his oldest pal; Ted Danson as himself; Vince Vaughn; and Tracey Ullman. Vin Diesel sued for alleged sexual battery by former assistant

Vin Diesel (born Mark Sinclair) has been accused of sexual battery by his former assistant. According to Vanity Fair, who first reported the lawsuit, court documents state that Diesel’s former assistant alleges the actor assaulted her in 2010 while he was filming The Fast and the Furious sequel, Fast Five.

The assistant, Asta Jonasson, said she was hired by Diesel’s ‘One Race’ company to assist the actor on location in Atlanta when he was filming Fast Five. Jonasson alleged that one night she was asked to wait in Diesel’s hotel suite, where the alleged assault happened.

Jonasson claimed she attempted to “disassociate” from the assault to “avoid angering” Diesel out of fear for her job security, and further alleged that Diesel’s sister, Samantha Vincent, fired her several hours later. In addition to the sexual battery allegation, the suit also states claims of gender discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation and negligent supervision.

Diesel, 56, is best known for playing Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious franchise, which released its 10th installment in May. Diesel has been with his longtime partner Paloma Jiménez since 2007, with whom he shares three children: Hania, Vincent and Pauline.

Take a look at Tate McRae’s video for ‘Exes’

Tate McRae recently released her sophomore album “THINK LATER”, the follow up to her 2022 debut album “I Used to Think I Could Fly”.  THINK LATER, comprised of 14-tracks, is produced by Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin, Jasper Harris, Thomas LaRosaT, and Tyler Spry.

Tate McRae said of the album, “This album describes the spontaneity and chaos of turning 20 and every thing that comes with it. Writing this whole thing was one of the most stressful, exciting, nerve racking, and fun things I’ve ever gone through. For the first time in my life I lived this year a little less with my head and a little more with my intuition. Writing and creating the world for this album was so much fucking fun and I got to do it with my favourite ppl ever. Thank u to Ryan Tedder who is the most talented alien genius for Ep’ing this record and to everyone who made these songs with me. They are so special to me.”

Tate McRae also dropped the video for ‘Exes,’ the follow-up to the hit song ‘Greedy.’  The video features herself and a number of dancers in a boxing ring; you can check it out: here.
