See Lupita Nyong’o in the trailer for ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’

Paramount Pictures has shared a trailer for the post-apocalyptic horror film A Quiet Place: Day One, featuring Lupita Nyong’o. The film is a prequel to the ‘Quiet Place’ movies directed by John Krasinski, and starring Krasinski and Emily Blunt.

A Quiet Place: Day One takes place in New York hundreds of days before the events of 2018’s ‘A Quiet Place’ on “day one” of the alien invasion that first introduced the blind but hearing-sensitive creatures featured in the Quiet Place films.

The trailer shows Nyong’o’s character fleeing alongside a character played by Joseph Quinn as aliens rain down from the skies and terrorize humans in the streets of New York City. Nyong’o is later seen waking up while covered in dust as she and the Man on Island (Djimon Hounsou), a character first introduced in A Quiet Place Part II, are surrounded by aliens.

A Quiet Place: Day One opens in theaters June 28; take a look at the trailer – here.

Linkin Park share ‘Friendly Fire’ featuring Chester Bennington, announce new LP

Last week, Linkin Park teased the track “Friendly Fire” and other previously unreleased songs that were recorded with the late Chester Bennington during 2017’s ‘One More Light’ sessions. Now, the band have revealed the details of a career-spanning greatest hits album, and shared ‘Friendly Fire’ in full. The band wrote on X: 🟢Papercuts – Singles Collection (2000-2023) | Available April 12 | Pre-order now and stream “Friendly Fire” from the One More Light 2017 sessions. https://lprk.co/papercuts #FriendlyFireLP #Papercuts”

The greatest hits album, titled ‘Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)’, is a 20-song overview of the band’s best-selling tracks over the past two decades – including classics such as ‘In The End’, ‘Burn It Down’ and ‘Numb’. Set for release on April 12, the album will also features the track ‘Lost’ – a previously unreleased song which was included on the band’s ‘Meteora’ 20th anniversary collection.  Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda says of the upcoming album: “In the making of each Linkin Park album, I want to love and believe in each individual song completely. I hope that if any one track is heard on its own in the world, it is something I can feel proud of, and something that takes root inside the listener and becomes part of the energy that connects us. Curating the tracks for ‘Papercuts’ was a joy. Each song in this collection is both a singular moment on our timeline and an evolving story that is as much ours as it is yours. From our first release ‘One Step Closer’ to the brand-new ‘Friendly Fire,’ this tracklist spans all our chapters so far.”

Lead guitarist Brad Delson shares: “‘Friendly Fire’ was always one of our favorite songs from the One More Light sessions. Something about it wasn’t quite right so as close as it got to the finish line, we chose to set it aside for later. When we started looking for an unreleased track to include on our greatest hits collection, I was blown away by the power of the song, the power of the storytelling, the power of the vocal, the sonic landscape and I actually thought that it was closer than maybe we had realized at the time. We got together to work on it and connect some of the missing pieces that for whatever reason hadn’t revealed themselves during the recording of One More Light. I can’t wait for people to hear it. It’s such a beautiful, compelling, heartbreaking, hopeful story and it really resonates with me today.”

‘Friendly Fire’ was released along with a music video that was directed and edited by long-time collaborator Mark Fiore, featuring never-before-seen studio and live footage. You can check it out – here.

New details of suspect are revealed in slain University of Georgia jogger case

Federal officials revealed new details on Sunday regarding the suspect charged with the death of an Augusta University College of Nursing student on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (‘ICE’) confirmed that the suspect, Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, of Athens, is a Venezuelan migrant and not a United States citizen. Ibarra was charged in the murder of Augusta University junior Laken Hope Riley, 22, who was found dead on Thursday near a lake on UGA’s campus after jogging nearby.

Athens-Clarke County jail records show that Ibarra is charged with felony murder, false imprisonment, kidnapping and concealing the death of another, and was denied bond Saturday morning. Authorities say there is no evidence Ibarra previously knew the victim and was not a student at UGA  According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia, the suspect’s brother, Diego Ibarra, 29, is in custody on federal charges of possessing a fraudulent green card and faces up to a decade in prison. Both brothers are undocumented.

According to a statement from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Ibarra was arrested by US Customs and Border Protection on Sept. 8, 2022 after entering the United States illegally near El Paso. ICE noted that “he [Ibarra] was paroled and released for further processing.” New York City police also arrested Ibarra last September and charged “with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation,” according to ICE, with the agency adding that NYPD released him “before a detainer could be issued.”

Ibarra’s immigration status became a hot topic amongst politicians who are fighting to tighten border security. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp requested confirmation on Saturday of the suspect’s immigration status as well as any information available regarding the asylum claims and release of the suspect’s brother, posting on X: “Laken Riley’s tragic death struck the hearts of Georgians everywhere and has sparked national outrage. Joe Biden’s failed policies have turned every state into a border state, and I’m demanding information from him so we can protect our people when the federal government won’t!  While media reports surrounding this case have relied on sources and leaks from your own federal agencies, the answers to these basic questions must be provided publicly as soon as possible.”

Heat forward Jimmy Butler among five players suspended for roles in fight with Pelicans

The NBA announced on Sunday that Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler was among five players suspended for their roles in an altercation that occurred during Friday night’s game in New Orleans between the Heat and Pelicans.

Butler, forward Nikola Jović, and Pelicans forward Naji Marshall have been suspended one game  for “instigating and engaging in” an on-court altercation. In addition, Heat center Thomas Bryant and Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado have been suspended three games for leaving the bench area during the on-court altercation that broke out between the two teams. Butler, Marshall, Alvarado, and Bryant were all ejected from Friday night’s game for their antics in the altercation.

The altercation in question began after Zion Williamson was fouled by Kevin Love, resulting in Williamson falling to the ground, prompting a scuffle to break out behind the scenes between the two teams, with Marshall and Butler at the center of it all.  Marshall grabbed Butler’s neck, causing matters to escalate with both teams shoving and pushing one another. Alvarado and Bryant both left the bench area, as well as Jović, who was seen shouting at and trying to push his way towards the Pelicans bench along with Bryan. After the initial scuffle had been broken up, Alvarado and Bryant met at the scorer’s table and again started fighting.

Centerfielder Cody Bellinger agrees to 3-year, $80M contract with Chicago Cubs

Two-time All-Star Cody Bellinger has agreed to a three-year, $80 million deal to return to the Chicago Cubs. The move comes after Bellinger, 28, declined a mutual option to test the open market.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the deal calls for Bellinger to earn a $30 million salary in 2024 and 2025, along with a $20 million salary in 2026, with opt outs in his contract after each of the first two years.

Bellinger was named 2019 NL MVP, hitting the go-ahead homer in the seventh inning of Game 7 against the Atlanta Braves in the 2020 NLCS to bring the Dodgers to the World Series. However he was plagued with injures in 2021/2022, ironically injuring his shoulder after hitting that homer which eventually required shoulder surgery.

The centerfielder hit .193/.256/.355 with 29 homers, 104 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 239 games over the next two seasons before parting ways with the Dodgers and signing a one-year, $17.5 million deal with the Cubs that also included a mutual option for 2024.
