Five Finger Death Punch earn 11th consecutive No. 1 with ‘This Is The Way (feat. DMX)’

Five Finger Death Punch’s (FFDP) latest single, “This Is The Way” featuring DMX has reach the top spot on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock radio chart, earning the band their 11th straight No. 1 hit on the charts and extending their record of holding the longest streak of No. 1s in the history of that chart.

Billie Eilish shares videos for her tracks ‘Lunch’ and ‘Chihiro’

Billie Eilish has shared the new, self-directed music video for the fan-favorite track “Chihiro,” the latest song off her recently-released LP, Hit Me Hard and Soft.  The album is Eilish’s third, and the follow-up to 2021’s Happier Than Ever.

In the clip for Chihiro, Eilish escapes an empty building and sprints outside, where she gets in a hands-on tussle with another person in a field, as she runs away from (and alongside) her love interest, Nat Wolff. Eilish calls the video for Chihiro “one of [her] favorite videos [she’s] ever made & truly one of the greatest days of my life. nat love you so much thank you for being a part of this.”

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Eilish explained how Chihiro draws inspiration from the main character in Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘Spirited Away’ – “It’s kind of from her point of view, mixed with mine. The visuals in that movie are some of the best ever — all that Studio Ghibli sh*t is unbelievable. There’s all those visuals of the train in the water after the flood, and it literally looks like an ocean with a train track. I had just watched Spirited Away and Finneas had made that beat. I love that movie. I’ve seen it so many times.”

Since Hit Me Hard and Soft dropped last month, Eilish has also shared a music video for “Lunch,” an anthem exploring themes of queerness and personal identity. Eilish debuted “Lunch” during her surprise performance at Coachella, where she joined headliner Lana Del Rey onstage; in the self-directed visual, Eilish performs directly into a vintage camcorder wearing a ‘90s-inspired outfit: a red cap worn sideways, a yellow supreme jersey layered over a long-sleeve white tee, fuzzy blue wristbands, plaid shorts and Jordans.

Eilish will also embark on the Hit Me Soft and Hard: The Tour starting in September 2024; the North American leg of the tour runs through to the end of December 2024, and will continue in Australia starting February 2025 ahead of her European, UK, and Ireland arena dates from April until late July.

Check out the videos for “Lunch” (here) and ‘Chihiro’ (here).

Federal Reserve leaves key interest rate steady and unchanged

On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve announced in a statement that was keeping its key interest rates steady, stating that it projects just one interest rate cut is possible before year’s end. The central bank said economic activity “has continued to expand at a solid pace,” while job gains “have remained strong, and the unemployment rate has remained low.”

The central bank kept the federal funds rate in a range of 5.25% to 5.5%; it has remained at that level, the highest in 23 years, since July of 2023. Though inflation has eased over the past year, it remains elevated — even as there has been “modest further progress toward the Committee’s 2% inflation objective.”

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell told reporters that the Consumer Price Index report released earlier Wednesday is encouraging, but noted that the central bank wants to see more evidence in coming months that inflation is on a path to return to about 2% before moving to cut the benchmark rate. Powell said that inflation has eased from a high of 7% to 2.7%, but is “still too high,” adding: “we see today’s report as progress and building confidence, but we don’t see ourselves as having the confidence that would warrant beginning to loosen policy at this time. My colleagues and I remain squarely focused on achieving our dual mandate goals of maximum employment and stable prices for the benefit of the American people. Our economy has made considerable progress toward both goals.” Powell said the Fed’s “restrictive stance on monetary policy” is to “keep demand in line with supply and reduce inflationary pressures,” and that economic activity has continued to “expand at a solid pace,” while growth of consumer spending has slowed from “last year’s robust pace but remains solid .. Committee participants generally expect GDP growth to slow from last year’s pace with a median projection of 2.1% this year and 2.0% over the next two year.”

House Republicans vote to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress

On Wednesday afternoon, House Republicans on voted on a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over audio of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur on his handling of classified documents.

The final vote along party lines was 216 to 207, with Rep. David Joyce of Ohio the only Republican who voted against the contempt resolution. In a statement after the vote, Joyce said, “As a former prosecutor, I cannot in good conscience support a resolution that would further politicize our judicial system to score political points.” Joyce also suggested the vote was a partisan act: “as a former prosecutor, I cannot in good conscience support a resolution that would further politicize our judicial system to score political points. The American people expect Congress to work for them, solve policy problems, and prioritize good governance. Enough is enough.”

The lower chamber’s vote to hold Garland in contempt now makes him the third attorney general in U.S. history to be held in contempt of Congress. The resolution includes a referral to the U.S. attorney of the District of Columbia for criminal prosecution, however, GOP investigators are expected to enter into a legal fight with the Justice Department to obtain the recordings.

Speaker Mike Johnson called the outcome “a significant step in maintaining the integrity of our oversight processes and responsibilities .. It is up to Congress – not the Executive Branch – to determine what materials it needs to conduct its own investigations, and there are consequences for refusing to comply with lawful Congressional subpoenas.” Johnson added: “The Committees need the audio tapes to verify the accuracy of the written transcripts given this White House has been known to heavily edit the President’s statements. This is a simple matter — we have the transcript, and we need the audio.”

Garland stated that it was “deeply disappointing that this House of Representatives has turned a serious congressional authority into a partisan weapon. Today’s vote disregards the constitutional separation of powers, the Justice Department’s need to protect its investigations, and the substantial amount of information we have provided to the Committees. I will always stand up for this Department, its employees, and its vital mission to defend our democracy.”

The Celtics are now just one game from winning a record 18th NBA championship, with Game 4 set to take place in Dallas on Friday at 8:30 pm.

Legendary Lakers player, NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West dies at age 86

Los Angeles Lakers legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Jerry West has died at the age of 86. The Los Angeles Clippers, whom West had been a board member and consultant since 2017, announced Wednesday that he “passed away peacefully” with his wife, Karen, by his side.

Per EPSN, West’s silhouette is considered to be the basis of the NBA logo. West spent his entire 14-year playing career with the Lakers, winning the 1972 NBA championship with the Lakers as a player and eight additional titles as an executive with the Lakers and Golden State Warriors. He became the third player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points, and was also an All-Star every year of his career, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Finals nine times and winning one title in 1971-72. He was also a 12-time All-NBA selection, an NBA Finals MVP as part of a losing team in 1969 — the first year that award was given out and still the only time it went to a player on the losing team — and part of the NBA’s 75th anniversary team.

After retiring at the conclusion of the 1973-74 season, West served as head coach of the Lakers for three seasons from 1976 to 1979, going 145-101 with three playoff appearances and one trip to the Western Conference Finals. He transitioned into a front-office role with the Lakers after that, and by 1982, he was named the organization’s general manager. West left the Lakers after the 1999-00 season after winning six championships as a member of the Lakers’ front office, and he was responsible for franchise-defining personnel moves such as trading for Kobe Bryant and signing Shaquille O’Neal in free agency. He served as the Memphis Grizzlies’ GM from 2002 to 2007 and then joined the Warriors’ front office in 2011 as an executive board member. West returned to L.A. in 2017, but as a member of the Clippers’ front office, serving on their board as they reached the playoffs five times in seven seasons.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released the statement: “Jerry West was a basketball genius and a defining figure in our league for more than 60 years. He distinguished himself not only as an NBA champion and an All-Star in all 14 of his playing seasons, but also as a consummate competitor who embraced the biggest moments… I valued my friendship with Jerry and the knowledge he shared with me over many years about basketball and life. On behalf of the NBA, we send our deepest condolences to Jerry’s wife, Karen, his family and his many friends in the NBA community.”

The NBA paid tribute to West before Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.
