Halsey confirms Lupus diagnosis and rare Lymphoproliferative Disorder

Halsey is further disclosing details of her serious health issues that she spoke out on social media earlier this week. The singer had posted she was “lucky to be alive” following a secret health battle, without disclosing her diagnoses at the time, and revealed her health issues inspired her new song “The End.”

Halsey, 29, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, June 5: “You’ve all been so kind so I want to share a bit more. In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life. After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After 2 years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all 🤍 Singing and screaming my heart out.”

Halsey also shared how grateful she was for the fan support of her new single, ‘The End’: “Thank you guys for the unbelievable amount of love for ‘The End’ and the support you’ve shown me since its release. I realize everyone is catching up with news I’ve held in for a very long time, and I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share.”

Wisconsin AG charges three Trump associates in fake electors case

Three associates of former President Donald Trump associates, who were allegedly tied to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, have been charged with forgery in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed felony charges against Kenneth Chesbro, former Dane County Judge Jim Troupis, and Mike Roman in Dane County Circuit Court.  Chesbro is accused of hatching the plan, Troupis represented Trump in Wisconsin and Roman delivered the paperwork of fake electors to a Pennsylvania congressional staffer to hand them off to then-Vice President Mike Pence on Jan. 6. All three were working for Trump in 2020 during Trump’s effort to take the state’s electoral votes.

Wisconsin is one of five states that have charged individuals for taking part in an elaborate scheme to approve fake electors for Trump in states where Biden won the vote.  The fake elector’s plan is one of the foundations for charges brought against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith in his Washington, D.C., case. That case is currently on hold while the Supreme Court decides if Trump’s claim of absolute immunity is warranted.

Cheseboro and Roman are also named as co-conspirators in similar election cases in Arizona and Georgia, while Troupis has been cited in Wisconsin only.

President Biden signs executive order banning migrants who cross southern border illegally

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed a new executive order on immigration that bars asylum to migrants who cross the southern border unlawfully, and temporarily shut down asylum requests once the average number of daily encounters tops 2,500 between official ports of entry.

The White House announced online: “These actions will be in effect when high levels of encounters at the southern border exceed our ability to deliver timely consequences,” saying that the policy change “will make it easier for immigration officers to remove those without a lawful basis to remain and reduce the burden on our border patrol agents.”

Biden’s executive order suspends entry of non-citizens who illegally cross the southern border and makes it easier to remove those who cross when the southern border is “overwhelmed” and to remove respective migrants who “do not have a legal basis to remain in the United States.” The executive order limiting the unlawful daily crossings to an average of 2,500 “will be discontinued when the number of migrants who cross the border between ports of entry is low enough for America’s system to safely and effectively manage border operations.”  The president’s order would come under the Immigration and Nationality Act sections 212(f) and 215(a) suspending entry of noncitizens who cross the southern border into the United States unlawfully. Humanitarian exceptions will be made, including for unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking.

Biden’s executive order comes a day after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials reported rising injuries and fatalities among migrants due to heat and dehydration as summer approaches and temperatures recently topped 100 degrees in the El Paso, Texas, sector. Border Patrol agents responded to several emergencies involving migrants suffering from “severe heat related illnesses,” which claimed four lives over the past weekend.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic withdraws from French Open with torn meniscus

Serbian Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the French Open quarterfinals after an MRI on Tuesday revealed he has a torn meniscus in his right knee. The world No. 1 was set to face No. 7 seed Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals on Wednesday; Djokovic’s withdrawal will make 22-year-old Jannik Sinner the first-ever Italian man to become world No. 1 when the new rankings come out on Monday.

The French Open released in a statement: “Due to a torn medial meniscus in his right knee (discovered during an MRI scan performed today), Novak Djokovic, who was supposed to play Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals tomorrow, has been forced to withdraw from the Roland-Garros tournament”

The 37-year-old star was gunning for his 25th Grand Slam title, though he still holds the record for most majors on the men’s side. Djokovic posted on social media: “I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Roland Garros. I played with my heart and gave my all in yesterday’s match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation. I wish the best of luck to the players competing this week and sincerely thank the incredible fans for all of the love and continued support. See you soon. With love and gratitude, Nole”

Djokovic was injured during a fourth-round victory against No. 23 Francisco Cerundolo on Monday that lasted five sets spread across more than 4 1/2 hours. Ruud will now face either No. 4 Alexander Zverev or No. 11 Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals. The group of remaining contenders includes Sinner, who won the Australian Open in January, who will face No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain or No. 9 Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the semifinals. Sinner said after hearing news of Djokovic’s withdrawal: “seeing Novak (injured) is, for everyone, disappointing, so I wish him a speedy recovery.”

San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano receives lifetime ban from MLB for betting on baseball

Major League Baseball banned San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano for life after determining that he placed hundreds of bets on baseball, including wagers on games involving the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was with the team last season. Marcano becomes the first active player in a century banned for life because of gambling;

On Tuesday, MLB officials said their investigation found Marcano had placed 387 baseball bets, including 231 MLB-related wagers between Oct. 16, 2022, and Nov. 1, 2023. All wagers totaled over $150,000. The announcement comes just one day after the investigation into bets on baseball made by the 24-year-old Marcano was publicly revealed

Marcano was first signed by the Padres as an amateur free agent from Venezuela in 2016, and traded to the Pirates five years later. He returned to the Padres in November on waivers, and spent much of the season on the injured list. The alleged sports betting occurred last year while Marcano was on the injured list after sustaining a season-ending ACL injury in July.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement: “The strict enforcement of Major League Baseball’s rules and policies governing gambling conduct is a critical component of upholding our most important priority: protecting the integrity of our games for the fans. The longstanding prohibition against betting on Major League Baseball games by those in the sport has been a bedrock principle for over a century. We have been clear that the privilege of playing in baseball comes with a responsibility to refrain from engaging in certain types of behavior that are legal for other people.”

The Pirates said Tuesday in a statement: “We are extremely disappointed of Tucupita’s actions and are fully supportive of Major League Baseball’s ruling. The Pirates, along with MLB, Players Association, and every Club, work to ensure all involved within our game are aware of the rules and policies around gambling. While the thorough investigation revealed no evidence of any games being compromised, influenced, or manipulated in any way in this case, protecting the integrity of our game is paramount.”

In addition, four other players have been placed on one-year suspensions for unrelated bets with a legal sportsbook — Oakland A’s pitcher Michael Kelly, Padres minor league pitcher Jay Groome, Philadelphia Phillies minor league infielder José Rodríguez and Arizona Diamondbacks minor league pitcher Andrew Saalfrank were all found to have violated MLB’s gambling policies.

Lainey Wilson invited by Reba McEntire to join Grand Ole Opry

Lainey Wilson will become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry after receiving a surprise invitation to join the Opry family from longtime Opry member Reba McEntire.

McEntire extended the honor after Wilson after she performed her latest single, “Hang Tight Honey” on the finale of NBC’s, sharing: “Lainey, I am so proud of you. You did a wonderful job. I have heard that I’ve inspired you and what you’ve done so far, and I am thrilled to death if I had anything to do with your career, ’cause you are blowing it up.” I was so proud of you at the ACMs the other night, and I couldn’t be more proud to be the one that helps you continue to bridge the gap between our generations, keep ’em all goin’. I’d like to be the person who invites you to be an official member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

Wilson tearfully accepted, hugging McEntire on stage and sharing: “somebody pinch me. This is the moment little Lainey dreamed about ever since her first trip to Nashville. My family’s over here tonight, and I will say, they took me to Nashville when I was nine years old and we went to the Grand Ole Opry, and we saw Bill Anderson and Crystal Gayle and Little Jimmy Dickens, and I knew that I wanted to play there, I wanted to do it. It is so crazy that you’re asking me to be a member ’cause I look up to you so much. I’m not talking about just musically, but the way that you carry yourself and your work ethic, you inspire me every day.”  She ended by thanking McEntire for “the surprise of a lifetime.” McEntire later presented Wilson with a gift commemorating the occasion, a custom-made belt buckle reading “Opry” and “Lainey” with “2024” emblazoned on its reverse side.

Wilson will be inducted into the Opry family on Friday, June 7th.
