Cast for Showtime’s ‘Dexter’ prequel series to feature Patrick Dempsey, Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson

Paramount+ with Showtime has announced more cast members to the ‘Dexter’ prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, taking place in Miami in 1991, 15 years before the beginning of the original series Dexter. The original Dexter had an eight-season run on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, starring Michael C. Hall as vigilante serial killer Dexter, with Jennifer Carpenter as Dexter’s sister, Debra and James Remar as Harry.

An official synopsis of Dexter: Original Sin reads: “When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Patrick Gibson will portray the young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin, as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. The series also will star Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) as Harry Morgan, a homicide detective and Dexter’s adoptive father, and Molly Brown (Senior Year) as Debra Morgan, Dexter’s younger sister.

Paramount+ with Showtime also announced four additional cast members — James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson — who have starring roles in upcoming series. Martinez will play a young Angel Batista, an up-and-coming homicide detective, while Milian has been cast as Maria LaGuerta, Miami Metro’s first female homicide detective. Shimizu will portray Vince Masuka, a forensic analyst, and Wilson will portray the new character Bobby Watt, Harry’s longtime partner and confidant.

In addition, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum Patrick Dempsey has joined the ensemble cast in the role of Aaron Spencer, captain of Miami Metro Homicide. Spencer has a long relationship with Christian Slater’s character Harry Morgan, the title character’s adoptive father. Paramount Global co-CEO Chris McCarthy said in a statement: “Patrick Dempsey is a beloved actor who is internationally known for the iconic characters he has played and his performances.  We are thrilled to have him join our all-star cast of Dexter: Original Sin, the highly anticipated origin story of the franchise.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips, who returned to finish off Michael C. Hall’s journey as Dexter in the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, will serve in the same capacity on Original Sin.

Season 1 of Dexter: Original Sin will consist of 10 episodes and air on Paramount+ with Showtime. The show will also stream on Paramount+.

John Lennon video for “You Are Here” features unseen 1968 footage of Lennon, Yoko Ono

A new John Lennon music video has been released to accompany a new “Ultimate Mix” version of his solo song “You Are Here,” a love ballad that Lennon wrote for his future wife, Yoko Ono. The video features previously unseen 1968 footage of Lennon and Ono at the opening of his “You Are Here (To Yoko From John Lennon, With Love)” art exhibit at the Robert Fraser Gallery in London. You Are Here is taken from Lennon’s 1973 album ‘Mind Games’ which will be reissued in deluxe form on July 12.  John and Yoko’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, produced the new mix of the track.

The You Are Here (To Yoko From John Lennon, With Love)” art exhibit opened on July 1, 1968, and was Lennon’s first major art show, featuring a bare gallery with a series of collection boxes for various charities leading visitors to a white canvas with the words “you are here” written on it by Lennon. As part of the show, Lennon released 365 white helium-filled balloons in which tags were attached telling those who discovered them to send a message to John via the gallery sharing their address and where they were found. Lennon then sent back a personal letter along with a “you are here” button.

The video footage featured on ‘You Are Here’ captures Lennon preparing for the show and footage from the event itself.  Lennon once said: “‘You Are Here’ – that’s more than just a joke, I suppose. People read it and suddenly realize it’s true. ‘Yes, I’m here,’ they think. ‘So are these other people. We’re all here together.’ And that’s where the vibrations start being exchanged. Good and bad ones according to who is sending out and how they feel.”

The ultimate mix of “You Are Here” is the second advance track to be released from the Mind Games reissue. The first was the “Evolutionary Documentary” version of the album’s title track, which presented how the song evolved from the demo stage to the final master. Only 1,100 copies of the limited-edition Super Deluxe release will be available worldwide.

Check out the video for ‘You Are Here’ – here.

Lamb of God to commemorate 20th Anniversary of ‘Ashes of the Wake’ with deluxe edition

Lamb of God will commemorate the 20th anniversary of their seminal album Ashes of the Wake with a deluxe reissue set for release on August 30th.  Ashes of the Wake features such songs as “Laid to Rest,” “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For,” and the title track.

The deluxe reissue features the original tracklist from Ashes of the Wake, plus new remixes and previously unreleased demos and live versions, as well as an updated rendition of “Another Nail for Your Coffin” will feature guest vocals from Kublai Khan TX’s Matt Honeycutt and Malevolence’s Alex Taylor (you can take a listen: here.)

Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe state: “I’m not much for re-recording our existing material — old songs are a snapshot of where we were as a band at that time, for better or worse. But when the idea came up to have a guest vocalist re-do my parts on ‘Another Nail for Your Coffin,’ I was all for it, especially if we could get two younger heavy hitters to bring a fresh approach to the song. Anyone who has seen Malevolence and Kublai Khan TX know that Alex and Matt crush it – it’s an honor to have these dudes bring new life to the tune 20 years after we first recorded it.” Guitarist Mark Morton added, “Matt and Alex both absolutely spit flames on this new, updated version, and gave it a ferocious modern energy. I’m glad to see this tune get some shine after all this time!”

Lamb of God will also be performing Ashes of the Wake in full on their co-headlining summer ‘Ashes of  Leviathan’ tour alongside Mastodon – who will be performing their classic album Leviathan in its entirety.

The reissue is available for pre-order in various formats, including standard black vinyl, “Yellow Smoke” 2-LP vinyl, and a 2-CD set.  To pre-order the deluxe edition of Ashes of the Wake, head here.

3-year-old boy dies, 7-year-old sister injured after shooting in Buffalo NY

Officials in Buffalo, New York have confirmed that a 3-year-old boy was killed and his 7-year-old sister was injured after being hit by gunfire while at a family gathering.

According to the Associated Press, officers rushed the unidentified boy in a police car to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead; while his sister suffered graze wounds deemed to be non-life threatening, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph A. Gramaglia said during a press conference that the shooting had not been related to the family gathering: “Last night was a very tragic night for our community. It was a hot night with a lot of people out, and the gunfire was unrelated to the gathering. These children were simply out enjoying a summer evening when tragedy struck.” Gramaglia said investigators recovered a gun Friday night and were testing it, but no further information about the weapon was made available. Gramaglia declined to provide further details of the shooting and said the investigation was continuing

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said: “A 3-year-old riding his tricycle, having fun with members of his family on a hot summer night, his 7-year-old big sister right by his side, and out of nowhere gunfire erupts. And the children are struck by gunfire,”

According to Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane, the mother of the two children involved in the shooting is a well-known member of the community who is active in Most Valuable Parents, a local organization focused on improving safety in Buffalo.  Said Keane: “she is a strong woman, consistently working with other families to keep our children safe. And now this tragedy has struck her own family.”
